Neutronics of the IFMIF-DONES irradiation facility

    No full text
The methodological approach applied for the nuclear analyses of the IFMIF-DONES facility, developed within the Early Neutron Source (ENS) project of EUROfusion, is presented. It utilizes dedicated tools, developed and adapted to the specific needs and peculiarities of an accelerator based d-Li neutron source. Major elements relate to the simulation of deuteron interactions with the Li target and the accelerator structures, the generation and transport of neutrons and photons, and the production of radio-active nuclides with the subsequent emission and transport of decay gamma radiation. With such an approach, all neutronics data can be provided which are required to design, optimize and evaluate the systems/sub-systems of the facility with regard to their nuclear and shielding performance. This is shown on the example of nuclear analyses conducted for the latest design of IFMIF-DONES

    Lincoln Silva, iconoclasta

Lincoln Silva, iconoclastLincoln Silva is one of the Paraguayan writers outshone by Augusto Roa Bastos and Gabriel Casaccia. Being an author of two novels, Rebelión después and General, general, he displays his belonging to Rafael Barrett’s “journalism of accusation,” originated at the beginning of the 20th century. In general, Silva can be considered an anarchist who does not agree with Alfredo Stroessner’s dictatorial system and criticizes the institution of the Church and its language. The proletarian revolution and politics itself become another subject of his criticism. Silva opposes the dictator but does not consider satisfactory the possible governance of the opposition. He ridicules the topics of the Paraguayan culture without offering concrete solutions. He refuses the concepts but does not intend to be constructive. Just as Cassacia’s protagonists, all the characters created by Silva are pulled into ethically ambiguous situations and they can be possibly interpreted as “esperpentic.”Lincoln Silva, iconoclastLincoln Silva is one of the Paraguayan writers outshone by Augusto Roa Bastos and Gabriel Casaccia. Conceptual Gaps in the Cartesian System

    No full text
The aim of this article is to point out the conceptual gaps in the Cartesian system as well as to explain the need to fill in those gaps. In author’s opinion, this might contribute to a greater clarity and logical coherence of Descartes’s thought. The Author analyses in detail only two of such terms: methodics and methodology. Both of them have a categorial character, but the first one is more general than the other. Briefly, methodics refers to cognitive, moral, religious and other rules, while methodology refers to those rules which are recommended and applied within the aforementioned areas. The Author also assumes that we have to do with methodics when we prepare ourselves to intellectually enter each of those areas of thought and practical conduct and when we seek those reasons which make our thought and action rational. On the other hand, we have to do with methodology when we are in one of those areas and are heading for—in a rationally planned manner—the goals set in it

Lo místico en el discurso religioso. Ejemplos de la ensayística rioplatense

    No full text
This study begins with a definition of discourse from Foucault’s perspective, then proceeds to explore various meanings of the notion of ‘mysticism’ in works ranging from Eliade and canonical authors such as Otto and James to Protestant positions. In Rio de la Plata essay writing, the use of the term ‘mysticism’ is rather ambiguous, as each author – without reference to the official and readily accessible doctrine – uses the label to describe realities of a different kind. While the mystical path generally involves a leap into the unknown, the selected authors present multiple perspectives on the mystical. Their texts reveal certain intuitions concerning the ineffable nature of spiritual experience, which is later translated into personal experience and social practice (orthopraxy) at the national level

Argentine Gaucho Discourse. Voices of the Classics of the Subject

    No full text
This article is consistent with the discipline of historical linguistics, which includes reflections on the Argentinian discourse devoted to the figure of the gaucho, particularly important in the Romantic era. The author traces the changes regarding the concept itself of the gaucho, as an uncontrolled creature and a synonym of barbarism – under the influence of social changes caused by the wave of emigration from Europe – which becomes the shelter of Argentinian identity, especially thanks to Leopoldo Lugones' idealization. The author examines the changes in the reception of the gaucho tendency, and shows how language can create a national reality, essential for understanding the ethos of 19th-century Argentinian patriots. The key figures in this text are writers and essayists such as Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, Hilario Ascasubi, the siblings Lucio and Eduarda Mansilla, José Mármol, José Hernández, Leopoldo Lugones, Jorge Luis Borges, Ricardo Rodríguez Molas, Ricardo Güiraldes, and contemporary Carlos Gamerro

Ernesto Cardenal and Francis : the Church as an objective of poetic and theological analysis

    No full text
The views of Pope Francis and the Nicaraguan poet Ernesto Cardenal converge in many aspects when interpreting the theology of the community. Cardenal, the representative of the Liberation Theology, and Pope Francis, who heads toward the mentioned theology, are the two personalities of the Latin American thought. Cardenal, the author of "Cántico cósmico", and the current Pope, the author of the encyclicals on the topic of the Church as a community, can find some common points. This study will continue with the characteristics of the canticle and encyclical as the two genres and means of description of the ecclesiastical reality. Furthermore, the study will focus on the deepening of the vision of the Church as a community of the poor and needy. The attitudes of Francis and Cardenal are similar, but the orthodoxy of the Sovereign Pontiff requires even more than the rebellious poet-priest from Nicaragua proposes.

The Return of Decorative Trends in Modern Architecture: The Example of Poznań, Poland

    No full text
Aesthetic tendencies in architecture are disposed between two poles: rich ornamentation and formal restraint. The principle of an empty wall and the rejection of decoration are perceived as features of contemporary architecture. However, does the thesis attributed to Adolf Loos that ornament is a crime still apply? This study covered 50 buildings completed between 2000 and 2022 in Poznań (Poland) and 810 photographs were obtained. In order to analyze the research material from an aesthetic point of view, the author refers to the past concept of decorum, which distinguishes it from the concept of ornament. The result of the research presented in this article is a typology of contemporary decorative elements, which includes eleven types of decorations. The study of construction in Poznań reveals the widespread presence of new ornaments, which demonstrates a universal human need for decoration. Increased decorativeness, which characterizes the declining periods of architectural styles, indicates that the modern style of architecture has also fallen into a “Rococo phase” in terms of aesthetics. This raises a question about the direction that the development of architectural decorations should take. A clear need to return to the idea of decorum is observed, encouraging further research as well as the elevation of the design value of modern ornaments through professional design research

Asymptotic behaviour of solutions of nonlinear delay difference equations in Banach spaces

    No full text
We consider the second-order nonlinear difference equations of the form Δ(rn−1Δxn−1)+pnf(xn−k)=hn. We show that there exists a solution (xn), which possesses the asymptotic behaviour ‖xn−a∑j=0n−1(1/rj)+b‖=o(1), a,b∈ℝ. In this paper, we extend the results of Agarwal (1992), Dawidowski et al. (2001), Drozdowicz and Popenda (1987), M. Migda (2001), and M. Migda and J. Migda (1988). We suppose that f has values in Banach space and satisfies some conditions with respect to the measure of noncompactness and measure of weak noncompactness

Reception of Augusto Roa Bastos’ Works in the Context of Polish Boom (References and Interpretations)

    No full text
Artykuł przedstawia najważniejsze głosy krytyki hiszpańskojęzycznej i polskiej dotyczące najważniejszych bloków tematycznych w interpretacji dzieła Augusto Roa Bastosa i przedstawia polską recepcję dzieła tego paragwajskiego pisarza. This article presents the most important Hispanic and Polish voices of criticism concerning the most important thematic blocks in the interpretation of works by Augusto Roa Bastos and presents the Polish reception of the works by this Paraguayan author. Summarized in the text are opinions concerning only the three books translated into Polish: two novels Son of Man, and I, the Supreme, and the collection Kurupí and other tales. Another issue is to place the works of Augusto Roa Bastos and in the context of boom as well as „new Latin-American novel”. Important topics are first and foremost a matter of bilingualism and biculturalism in the writings of Roa Bastos. The writings of Roa Bastos are a testimony about the culture and also a demand for social justice, by typing in the so-called “social magic realism”. This is a sketch about Roa Bastos as a somewhat forgotten twentieth century Latin American literature classic
