A new _13Ccarb curve from the Green Point section (Newfoundland, Canada), the GSSP of the Cambro-Ordovician Boundary, has been constructed because (1) no high-resolution carbon isotope profile was previously presented for the GSSP section and (2) the exact stratigraphic level of the Cambrian–Ordovician boundary, based on conodont biozonation, has become recently an issue of debate. The previously constructed C-isotope profile was based on lower resolution field sampling protocols. The δ13C values of 84 well-preserved micrite microsamples range from –4.7 ‰ to +1.7‰ (VPDB) and the profile reveals a composite negative shift (three peaks) of ~ 6.0 ‰. The combination of C-isotope stratigraphy with biozonation provides a powerful tool of high-resolution global correlations

Impact of training on Malaysian respiratory physiotherapists' ability in detecting velcro crackles from pre-recorded lung sounds.

Incidence of idiopathic pulmonary disease (IPF) is increasing worldwide and currently there is no curative therapy for IPF. Velcro crackles are associated with IPF and could be detected during auscultation. There is a need to train healthcare professionals to detect Velcro crackles during auscultation to help with earlier diagnosis of IPF in clinical settings. There is a paucity regarding the impact of training on healthcare professionals’ ability in detecting Velcro crackles from patients with IPF, particularly amongst Malaysian respiratory physiotherapists. The purpose of this research is to explore the impact of training on Malaysian respiratory physiotherapists in detecting Velcro crackles from pre-recorded lung sounds of patients with IPF. To this end, the research was conducted over two studies. The first study used a test-retest design to explore the impact of training on the intra and inter-observer reliability of respiratory physiotherapists ability to identify Velcro crackles from pre-recorded lung sounds. Twelve participants were randomly assigned into two groups and assessed on two separate occasions. The findings suggested that intra-observer reliability for the trained Group A indicated substantial to perfect agreement (k=0.67-1), in contrast fair to moderate agreement found for the untrained Group B (k=0.29-0.54) during Assessment 1. However, intra-observer reliability for Group B improved, from moderate to perfect agreement (k=0.50-0.90) after the training session during Assessment 2. Inter-observer reliability score for the trained Group A reflects moderate agreement (k=0.59), whereas the untrained Group B represents slight agreement (k=0.19) during Assessment 1. Nonetheless, inter-observer reliability for Group B improved to moderate agreement (k=0.59) at Assessment 2 after receiving the ii training session. However, this first study has several limitations. Therefore, the second study was conducted after further improvements and development on its design to counter those limitations. In the second study, a longitudinal mixed methods design was used to achieve the study aim, via the following objectives: 1) to evaluate the impact of training on reliability, accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of Malaysian respiratory physiotherapists in detecting Velcro crackles over time; 2) to explore participants’ experiences of Velcro crackles at the baseline and after the training session; 3) to explore participants’ perceptions of the training sessions; and 4) to explore participants’ experiences of skill retention and skill transfer in clinical practice. This study suggested that the training has significantly improved in inter-observer reliability, accuracy and sensitivity of participants in detecting Velcro crackles from the pre-training to the post-training assessments (k improved from 0.20 to 0.56 indicates poor to moderate agreement, p < 0.001; accuracy increased from 58% to 87%, p < 0.001; sensitivity increased from 43% to 85%, p < 0.001 respectively). However, the reliability, accuracy and sensitivity significantly declined from the post-training to the two-month follow-up assessments (k reduced to 0.50 indicates moderate agreement, p < 0.05; accuracy decreased to 83%, p < 0.05; sensitivity decreased to 80%, p < 0.05). There were significant negative correlations between days of leave with accuracy and sensitivity at twomonth follow-up assessment (rs = -0.85 & -0.84 respectively, p < 0.05). Specificity remained constant over time, p > 0.05. The qualitative findings corroborated with these findings suggest that there were: 1) perceived benefits of the training session; 2) comprehension towards the training; and 3) recognition of Velcro crackles immediately after the training. However, at the two-month follow-up interview session, qualitative findings suggest that there were: 1) decline in skill retention; 2) time constraint to practise the newly acquired skill in clinical practice; 3) skill transfer was achieved by some participants; and 4) acknowledgement of the importance of the skill in clinical practice. In addition, qualitative findings suggest that there should be a continuous learning programme through online and interactive training workshop, which should be delivered earlier to healthcare professionals and undergraduate students. Therefore, this thesis suggests the need for implementing the training of Velcro crackles detection in clinical practice to train health care professionals in iii detecting Velcro crackles, thus promoting earlier diagnosis of IPF in clinical settings.</p

The Cambrian HERB excursion (Furongian) from the Martin Point Formation of the Cow Head Gropu, western Newfoundland, Canada.

The (Hellnmaria-Red Tops Boundary) HERB negative excursion is well known from the deep water, distal slope deposits at the Green Point section, western Newfoundland, Canada. However, the absence of fossils prohibits the precise biostratigraphic constraint of the HERB excursion at the Green Point section. The deeper water strata at the nearby Martin Point South section represent middle to distal slope deposition and are here used to present the continuous carbon-isotope stratigraphy for the upper part of the Furongian Series in the allochthonous Cow Head Group, western Newfoundland, Canada. The Furongian strata are characterised by moderate to low sedimentation rates and the investigated succession at the Martin Point South section provides a complete sedimentary record. The Furongian strata are referred to the Martin Point Member of the Green Point Formation of the Cow Head Group and consist of black, dark grey and green shale, ribbon lime mudstone and grey, brown weathering siltstone. A total of 33 samples were microdrilled from the most micritic material and analysed for carbon isotope geochemistry from the lower part of the succession (ca 58 m thick) at Martin Point to reconstruct a δ13C profile. The most striking carbon-isotope anomaly detected is the HERB isotope carbon excursion with a clear double peak at the base of the Eoconodontus notchpeakensis conodont Zone. Up section, the HERB is succeeded by a second significant negative excursion in the lower middle part of the E. notchpeakensis Zone and the isotope curve of the E. notchpeakensis Zone concludes with a positive carbon isotope event that marks the beginning of the Cordylodus proavus conodont Zone. The HERB excursion is well developed, complete and biostratigraphically constrained in the Martin Point South section, thus it forms an important proxy for regional and intercontinental correlation and for the discussion on the base of unnamed Stage 10

This thematic study has based on the verses about the stories (Qaṣaṣ), the kind is the story of the Ulul Azmi messengers. Ulul Azmi messengers are the five prophets who were special by Allah as in Q.46:35, Q.33:7, and Q.42:13. They are messengers who have the high determination and patience in fighting for the Allah’s religion. A messenger was a usual people who certainly lives in a family, they have parents, wives, and children. Whether the special degree that they get was also supported by family support or even their own family which be test for themselves, because defiance or denial of the Allah law. So, how does the Quran explained their family stories and their position as part of a family? This question will be tried to be answered in this thesis research. The research method is the thematic method (Mauḍū‘ī Method) which is presented based on the description and analysis of the Quran’s verses about family’s messengers stories of ulul azmi as primary data, would be taking from the interpretations of several commentaries book collected and then analyzed carefully by author, after that complement data from histories books and stories of the prophets books and other related readings. Family’s messengers stories of Ulul Azmi becomes interesting because their family members were not fully obedient people. The Prophet Nuh was preached for 950 years but only a few of people were believers, and among those who did not believe were his wife and child. The Prophet Ibrahim has a father who a carver of idol and he had to awaken his father to follow a straight path, but his father was still stubbornly opposed. Then, Ibrahim married Sarah, then remarried a slave named Hajar. From Hajar he obtained a child named Ismail and from Sarah even they were old, God gave Ishaq to them. And all of the prophets after Ibrahim came from the generations of Ismail and Ishaq. The Prophet Musa, a baby born in the age of a boy must be killed, but Allah gave inspiration to his mother to make a chest and wash it in the Nile, until the chest beyond the king’s unjust palace, he was even cared and becomes king’s foster son. He fled to Madyan, and then he married a shepherd girl. The Prophet Isa was born from the holy girl was a servant of Baitul Maqdis, since his birth his mother had been bombarded with various heinous accusations because puerperal a baby without marriage, so Isa who was still in the cradle spoke and explained to his peoples to defend his mother. The Prophet Muhammad tested when his wives demanded more shopping, and he could only leave them for one month until the verse came down to this problem. There are some verses of the Quran concerned his wives, they are Khadijah, Aishah, Hafṣah, and Zainab. Based on the results of analysis was getting family’s messengers stories of Ulul Azmi that not all of them was obedient people, some were pious and some were disbelieved to died. Each family’s messengers stories tucked many valuable lessons, about the piety of the parents who descend to their children, family relations in hereafter, family functions, responsibilities as parents, the good children, to obedience and betrayal of a wife.
