No full textIn 2006 Paolo Dilonardo was chosen by the Susan Sontag Literary Estate as one of the editors of Sontag’s posthumous work. The access to Sontag private archives allowed him and Anne Jump to reconstruct form and intentions of the collection of essays Sontag was outlining in the last years of her life. Through the study of her manuscripts, Dilonardo and Jump prepared the essays for publication, restoring the original version of the pieces that were cut or edited at the time of first publication in magazines, and incorporating the corrections and edits the author made after that first publication. The result of their work is Susan Sontag, At the Same Time. Essays and Speeches, edited by Paolo Dilonardo and Anne Jump. Foreword by David Rieff, published first in the United States then in the U.K. The collection of essays edited by Dilonardo and Jump was then translated into French, Spanish, German and Portuguese. The Italian edition, translated by Paolo Dilonardo, was published by Mondadori in 2008

Macroeconomic News, Announcements, and Stock Market Jump Intensity Dynamics
No full textThis paper examines the effect of macroeconomic releases on stock market volatility through a Poisson-Gaussian-GARCH process with time varying jump intensity, which is allowed to respond to such information. It is found that the day of the announcement, per se, has little impact on jump intensities. Employment releases are an exception. However, when macroeconomic surprises are considered, inflation shocks show persistent effects while monetary policy and employment shocks show only short-lived effects. Also, the jump intensity responds asymmetrically to macroeconomic shocks. Evidence that macroeconomic variables are relevant to explain jump dynamics and improve volatility forecasts on event days is provided.Conditional jump intensity, conditional volatility, macroeconomic announcements.
Intimidation or Impatience? Jump Bidding in On-line Ascending Automobile Auctions
No full textWe run a large field experiment with an online company specializing in selling used automobiles via ascending auctions. We manipulate experimentally the maximum amount which bidders can bid above the current standing price, thus affecting the ease with which bidders can engage in jump bidding. We test between the intimidation vs. costly bidding hypotheses of jump bidding by looking at the effect of these jump-bidding restrictions on average seller revenue. We find evidence consistent with costly bidding in one market (Texas), but intimidation in the other market (New York). This difference in findings between the two markets appears partly attributable to the more prominent presence of sellers who are car dealers in the Texas market.

David Zimmer Christmas letter
No full textThis Christmas letter written November 30, 1999, by David Zimmer is titled "Season's Greetings from the last of the Red-Hot-Santas!" It features an illustration of Santa Claus with a guitar, and a summary of Zimmer's year.
David Zimmer (1929-2005) was born in Harrisburg, Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for two years during the Korean War at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where he performed in drag for wounded soldiers. After the war, he returned to Ohio. Zimmer performed as Dolly Divine, a name inspired by the song "Hello Dolly." In 1964, he established the Berwick Ball with Orn Huntington, another important early gay activist in Central Ohio. The Ball began as a formal Halloween costume ball that provided a safe space to gather and enjoy drag shows for the gay community each year; over the years, it grew into an annual Halloween tradition and an important fundraiser for the AIDS movement and other charities. During the 1970s, Zimmer was also known for hosting lavish parties at his Harrisburg home. In 1989, he moved to the German Village area of Columbus where he remained active in the community. During the 1990s, Zimmer continued to perform in and out of drag and commissioned costume designer Dick Frank to make elaborate outfits. Zimmer worked for Huntington National Bank for 39 years and was a member of the Harrisburg United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the German Village Society
