Le livre de Judith dans le contexte de la littérature grecque
No full textLa problématique approfondie dans cette thèse est le rapport du livre biblique de Judith avec la littérature grecque. L’hypothèse d’une composition en langue grecque est le point de départ de notre recherche. Notre but a été celui de nous interroger sur l’origine littéraire et culturelle de l’auteur du livre et de ses lecteurs, en étudiant le texte en tant que phénomène hellénistique. Nous avons réparti les 21 chapitres de notre thèse en quatre parties. Après une brève introduction, nous avons développé la première partie de la thèse en quatre chapitres consacrés à quelques questions préliminaires pour une étude du texte de Judith. La section centrale de la thèse constitue le noyau de notre recherche et se compose de deux parties (= deuxième et troisième partie). La deuxième partie est consacrée à l'analyse des motifs narratifs qui ont révélé des affinités avec la littérature grecque. Dans la troisième partie nous avons examiné des expressions linguistiques spécifiques, à notre avis indicateurs d'une connaissance très étroite que l'auteur de Judith aurait eu de la littérature grecque. Dans la dernière partie, nous avons formulé nos conclusions.À notre avis, cette étude a mis en évidence l'existence de plusieurs points de contact et des similitudes entre la littérature grecque classique et hellénistique et le livre de Judith.The thesis explores the relationship between the biblical book of Judith and Greek literature. The hypothesis of a Greek composition is the starting point of this research. The aim was to investigate the literary and cultural origins of the author of the book and of its readers, by studying the text as a Hellenistic phenomenon.The 21 chapters of the thesis are divided into four parts. After a brief introduction, the first part of the thesis, developed into four chapters, is devoted to some preliminary questions for a study of the text of Judith. The central section of the thesis constitutes the core of the research and consists of two parts (second and third parts). The second part is devoted to the analysis of narrative motifs which have revealed affinities with Greek literature. The third part examines specific linguistic expressions that indicate the author of Judith's close knowledge of Greek literature. The final section is devoted to the conclusions. This study highlight the existence of several points of contact and similarities between classical and Hellenistic Greek literature and the book of Judith

No full textCette thèse comble une lacune notoire dans les études des anciennes versions latines de la Bible. En effet, la Bible latine – les versions Veteres ainsi que la Vul¬gate – a joué un rôle marginal dans les études bibliques. En tant que traductions, elles n’ont pas suscité beaucoup d’intérêt, car d’après l’opinio communis elles sont dépourvues d’originalité, soit au niveau du style qu’à celui du contenu. Néanmoins, l’étude détaillée des versions latines des livres de Ruth et de Judith montre que l’inverse est vrai. Il s’agit de textes dotés de leurs propres spécificités. Par leurs choix lexicaux, les variations, les ajouts et les omissions, les traducteurs ont conféré au texte biblique une physionomie et un sens différent. Ainsi, les livres de Ruth et de Judith véhiculent des représentations spécifiques de la femme qui reflètent la pensée chrétienne de l’époque. Dès lors, ces versions latines sont moins des traducti¬ons du texte biblique que des révisions et des réinterprétations.The aim of this thesis is to fill a known gap in the research of the ancient Latin versions of the Bible. In fact, the Latin Bible – both the Veteres and the Vulgate versions – has played a marginal role and aroused little interest. According to the opinio communis, translated texts are devoid of originality, both in terms of style and content. However, as a detailed study of the Latin versions of the books of Ruth and Judith shows, the opposite is the case insofar as they have without any doubt their specific features. Through lexical choices, variations, additions and omissions, the translators have produced subtle shifts, giving the text a quite different shape. Thus, the Latin books of Ruth and Judith convey specific representations of the role of women that reflect ideas attested elsewhere in early Christian literature. Hence, the Latin translations are much more than simple translations of the biblical text. On close inspection, they turn out to be revisions and interpretations

it as one of the dominant forms of entertainment. He focuses his attention on a
relatively minor problem, namely that of the relations (broadly speaking) between a
bon mot and a conversational statement, in the epoch of Enlightenment. The author
mentions several situations that favoured the invention of brilliant witticisms. He
turns the reader’s attention to the fact that bons mots, having been extracted from their
original conversational context, were passed not only by word of mouth - they were
recorded. Owing to this recording as a written text, bons mots could become an important
source of information on the art of conversation at the age of Enlightenment
