    docomomo Suomi/Finland will host the 12th docomomo International Conference in Espoo, in 2012. Espoo is part of the greater metropolitan Helsinki area and parts of the conference program are held over the capital region. The Conference is hosted by the City of Espoo and Espoo City Museum and realized in collaboration with public and private organizations, the principal ones being the Alvar Aalto Foundation, the City of Helsinki, Museum of Finnish Architecture, The National Board of Antiquities, the Architectural Department of Aalto University, the Ministry of Culture and Education and the Ministry of Environment. The Conference coincides with the Helsinki region being the World Design Capital 2012, with numerous events and exhibitions dealing with design in all its aspects

    The Re-Use research on the Housing Complex of Lignon (Switzerland, Geneva) has been awarded with the Europa Nostra Prize for Research in 2013. The project, published in docomomo Journal 44 (2011/1), has been developed by the EPFL's Laboratory of Techniques and Preservation of Modern Architecture (TSAM), under the leadership of Franz Graf and Giulia Marino, docomomo Switzerland members.     Docomomo International has launched the docomomo Virtual Exhibition (MoMove) on the 23rd November 2015 in Tecnico-University of Lisbon. The original concept was developed by Ana Tostões and Yoshiyuki Yamana in September 2013 as an online exhibition to disseminate and to foster build- ings, sites and neighbourhoods of the Modern Movement throughout the (online) world, under the scope of docomomo. The website exhibition.docomomo.com is a great achievement in the pursuit of the docomomo mission that could not be set up without the generous support of the Lisbon Municipality and Tecnico-University of Lisbon. MoMove was launched with the work of the research of 482 contributors1, from 36 Working Parties through the upload of information on 3247 buildings and sites

    The 9th docomomo Brazil Conference had as chief subject Interdisciplinarity and experi- ences in documentation and preservation of recent heritage and was opened with a tribute to Brazilian architect José Galbinski, author of several Brasilia’s modern masterpieces. As key lecturers, it was honored with the presence of docomomo International Chair Ana Tostões (IST, Universidade Técnica, Lisboa), docomomo US President Theodore Prudon (Columbia University, New York), Mário Mendonça (Universidade Federal da Bahia, Salvador), Luis Mauro Freire (Escola Da Cidade, São Paulo), Cyro Correa Lyra (National Monuments, Rio de Janeiro), Alfredo Gastal (National Monuments, Brasília), Alfonso Corona Martínez (Universidad de Belgrano, Buenos Aires), Jorge Silvetti (Har- vard University, Cambridge, Mass.).     In June, Berthold Burkhardt, one of the supporters of the first hours of Docomomo, passed away. He was involved in the organization of the International Docomomo Conference at Bauhaus Dessau (1992), and actively participating in the “restart” of Docomomo Germany in 2006.He studied architecture and civil engineering in Stuttgart (1960-1965). As an architect and engineer in Frei Otto’s office, he was involved in iconic buildings such as the German Pavilion at Expo 67 in Montreal and the roof structures for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. As a staff member of Institute for Lightweight Structures at the University (ILEK) in Stuttgart and in research projects, he devoted himself scientifically to the topic that occupied him throughout his entire professional life: lightweight structures.In 1984 he was appointed as professor and Head of the Institute for Structural Design at TU Braunschweig. He was able to combine his research with architectural teaching and his work as an independent architect, from 1993 together with Martin Schumacher in the Burkhardt + Schumacher office. Conservation and renovation projects became increasingly important, e.g. the employment agengy in Dessau by Walter Gropius and the Chancellor’s Bungalow in Bonn by Sep Ruf.Next to his active involvement in Docomomo, he was a member of ICOMOS, Europa Nostra, the Alvar Aalto Society, the Koldewey Society for Historical Building Research and the Society for the History of Building Technology, and served several years as head of the monitoring group for the German World Heritage Sites. As an expert and advisor, he supported the Wüstenrot Foundation and the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, and played a key role in setting the course for the general refurbishment of the Bauhaus building from 1996 onwards.We will miss him as an architect, engineer, scientist, mentor and friend
