Expert Mission on Validation and Verification of EOP and Development of AM guidelines for NPP Kozloduy
The University of Pisa participated in a number of activities organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In connection with the majority of those activities the UNIPI author had the opportunity to know the details of the operational conditions of current Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) and to comment on various aspects mostly connected with the safety and the safety planning in case of accidents. The mission at the Kozloduy Nuclear site in Bulgaria deals with the validation of the Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) including the transition from EOP to AMP (Accident Management Procedures). Both EOP and AMP are essential to prevent disastrous core melt scenarios (and have been effective for many years in this connection)
Beer, Brats, Cheese, and-- Baseball: The History and Impact of Baseball in Wisconsin
From the 1800s baseball became a passion for the citizens of the United States. Wars, recessions and scandals could not bring down what is known as "America's Pastime." However baseball and other professional sports have been getting a bad name since historians and economist have started to look at the correlation between the team and the community. The notion of, "build us a new stadium at the cost of the tax payers or we are taking our team elsewhere" has been a common trend since 1950's. By looking at Appleton and Milwaukee this paper will look at the impacts baseball has on these communities both culturally and economically from 1966 to 2012
This bachelor’s thesis investigates the „husbandry and usage of horses for tourism in Engadin (CH)”. Five horse farms that were willing to join the survey. The chosen method is an expert interview, for which a guideline had to be prepared, in order to be able to question all businesses on the same level. The compression of the discussed contents was made by using a five-step system, from a common paraphrasing to a theoretically generalisation. Through the animal welfare regulations’ specifications as well as the sponsorship of speciesappropriate husbandry in groups with frequent turn-out periods plus the yearly controls, a system was developed which leaves almost no room for poor horse management. A trend towards an open stable system with permanent roughage feeding is recognisable, however this form of husbandry does not work for every horse due to the differences regarding nutritional needs and form of usage. The most used horse breed is the Franches-Montagnes. This breed is an excellent workhorse for any area of application by its breeding history and steady military usage. Because of seasonality, several difficulties occur for the businesses. Therefore the amount of usage the horses have to endure needs to be contemplated critically and requires reasonable suggestions for improvements, since employees, horses and humans alike, temporarily have to be applicable for respective services without days off during high season, whereas during low season a lot of days and weeks with no work happen. Whereby the services’ efficiency as another difficulty becomes apparent. The managers try to cover the costs of the unprofitable times with the income of the lucrative ones, which also means to pare down the number of animals and personnel by using seasonal contracts. This leads to numerous changes within the personnel department, which implies additional expenses regarding hiring and job training of compatible employees, but gives a certain flexibility, allowing family and non-family staff members to gain experience in different professions. Future visions of the interviewees are fairly similar. They aim for keeping on existing and increasing their profitability. This should be feasible by achieving an evenly spaced out 115 degree of capacity utilisation throughout the year. Furthermore, the joyousness of the work and for the guests should not get lost. In conclusion it can be said, that the horses’ management and usage is created as speciesappropriate as possible since they are being viewed and valued as equal colleagues
The Unfavored: Judah and Saul in the Narratives of Genesis and 1 Samuel
In this dissertation I focus on the fate of the unfavored within Israel: Judah in the Joseph cycle (Genesis 37-50), and Saul in the episode depicting his brief reign (1 Samuel 13-15). These two narratives contain segments that have long puzzled their readers: chapters 38 and 49 of Genesis, and the account of Saul’s first rejection in 1 Samuel 13:7b-15a seem awkward in their literary context. The bulk of my thesis consists of a thought experiment. I attempt to read these stories of Israel’s election first without and then with these intrusive segments, in order to see what the outcome might mean both in terms of hermeneutics and the notion of election

Archaeological and biological examination of “The Mystery Wreck” (8MO143) off Vaca Key, Monroe County, Florida: A Report Submitted to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary in Fulfillment of a NOAA Maritime Heritage Program Mini-grant
During the summer of 2004, the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research Underwater Archaeology team undertook a project to relocate, assess, and record thirteen of the shipwrecks of the 1733 Spanish Plate Fleet in the Florida Keys. One source of background information that they used was a commercially available videotape entitled “Galleon Hunter,” produced by Don Ferguson. Aside from the 1733 wrecksites, the video features another site, locally known as “the Mystery Galleon,” that was shown to Ferguson by local diver Stefan Sykora. Using location numbers supplied in Ferguson’s video, Roger Smith, Della Scott-Ireton, and Dave McCampbell relocated the site in Hawk Channel, off the city of Marathon. Later, the site further was examined by Smith, Jennifer McKinnon, and Jason Raupp, who made initial sketches, still photos, and video recordings.ReportSubmitte

Numerical Analysis of the Bridge Orthotropic Deck Time Dependent Resistance
Resistance of the stiffened plated orthotropic deck of bridge with ballast bed is affected by the environmental action effects due to unchecked corrosion process of steel bridge deck under ballast bed. Therefore, to observe the behaviour and resistance of those types of steel bridges, the probabilistic nonlinear finite element analysis using adequate sophisticated software is needed. The paper presents results of the parametric numerical analysis of the time dependent resistance of bridge with ballast bed on the orthotropic deck considering corrosion attack using ANSYS software support module PDS. Random variables entering calculations were described by means of parameters of probability density functions according to data determined experimentally. The model takes also into account the geometrical and material nonlinearities of bridge structure including the selected corrosion models
Design of Compression Members for Durability
General principles of structural elements design for durability and their application in the case of compression members are presented in this paper. The degradation effects of material deterioration due to corrosion cause the loss of member resistance, but the limit states method does not directly reflects design and verification allowing for failures caused by material deterioration. The time-dependent loss of compression member resistance was computed for specific corrosion models to express the time-dependent approximation function taking into account effects of corrosion degradation. Then, the design member resistance could be obtained using buckling member resistance multiplied by a timedependent function considering corrosion degradation effects within the member lifetime
