Is Beyond Sustainability a feasible option?
This contribution gives a synthesis of all the input gleaned from the symposium ‘Beyond Sustainability’ and the papers presented in this final document. This is based on a reading, structuring and combining of all papers of the symposium, on the summaries of the parallel sessions and on the contributions to this publication. Apart from presentations and networking, the symposium aimed to consult the participants regarding their visions on ‘sustainable building in the 21st century’. After consultation, four main topics appeared to be dominant: 1. Presentation and evaluation of contemporaty best practice in sustainable building and rethinking of concrete, new chances for contemporai’y sustainable building and architecture 2. Suggestions on innovative, pioneering (and utopian) concepts that should be realised in the (near) future 3. Barriers on the road to more sustainable building 4. The path to extreme sustainabilit

Dilemma 3: Timeless or temporal life span? Architectural concepts between demolishing and reuse
Towards sustainability with user-designer interaction and a comprehensive approach that opens the frontiers between disciplines
To achieve more understanding of the interplay between sustainability and the functional quality of buildings, we should pay more attention to a broad and interdisciplinary approach of building. It means that we must not narrow our vision to the level of the building itself. Instead, we have to go beyond the edges of our discipline and have to change from viewpoint to viewpoint, while we are co-operating in multidisciplinary teams. This could provide a substantial contribution to sustainable development and may solve the complex questions that are posed when developing sustainable building
Neem rouwbeleving jonge kind serieus
Dilemma 2 : Building does not harm the environment : how to realise more building with less environmental impact?
