Parametric study of an elastic singularity-based frequency doubler for concatenation
The use of elastic frequency multipliers presents the ideal platform to address the coupling between the footprint and range of motion of elastic mechanisms. By transmitting unidirectional into reciprocating motion they efficiently increase the range of motion without a huge compromise in size. In this thesis, an elasticfrequency doubler based on an eight-bar mechanism that exploits the displacement around a singularity to double the frequency is presented. Higher frequency multiplications can be achieved by concatenating this mechanism, surpassing previous designs in the literature. To facilitate effective concatenation, criteria for optimization were established and a design study was conducted to determine the optimal geometrical parameters of the mechanism. The utilization of not only the actuation capabilities but simultaneously leveraging the inherently stored strain energy during operation has the potential to serve as the foundation for a novel group of architected materials. Shadows of the therapy relationship
The author argues that the relational turn in psychotherapy has led to moralism, conformism and hypocrisy on the part of many clinicians. Relationality cannot engage with the phenomenon of solitude in a satisfactory manner leading to a potential flight from the unconscious. The author proposes that there is more than one therapy relationship to sondier and that the key task is to hold their simultaneity in mind. He proposes a methodology by which this might be done. The author argues that what is being discussed will be incomprehensible in terms of the project of state regulation of psychotherapy currently being proposed by the British Government

Heterodox scholarship at Michigan State University (MSU) was influenced by the institutional economics of John R. Commons at Wisconsin. But it was far from monolithic and had many other sources and originality of its own. A case can be made that the center of institutional economics moved across Lake Michigan from Madison to East Lansing and blossomed in the second half of the 20th century with such Wisconsin Ph.D's as Raleigh Barlowe, Warren Samuels, Allan Schmid, Harry Trebing, and others. Rationality, preferences and irregular war
We suppose that civilians under threat prefer certain situations within a context of irregular war and endangered survival; they will prefer those situations associated with greater probabilities of survival. Using lexicographical preferences and belief systems, we have shown that civilians will choose not to remain in situations having a lower probability of survival. Linking into social networks allows for shorter deliberation processes, lower decision costs and faster convergence towards collective decision-making. An R&D-Based Model of Multi-Sector Growth
We develop a multi-sector general equilibrium model in which productivity growth is driven by the production of sector-specific knowledge. In the model, we find that long run differences in total factor productivity growth across sectors are independent of the parameters of the knowledge production function except for one, which we term the fertility of knowledge. Differences in R&D intensity are also independent of most other parameters. Forecasting with many models: Model confidence sets and forecast combination
A longstanding finding in the forecasting literature is that averaging forecasts from different models often improves upon forecasts based on a single model, with equal weight averaging working particularly well. This paper analyzes the effects of trimming the set of models prior to averaging. We compare different trimming schemes and propose a new one based on Model Confidence Sets that take into account the statistical significance of historical out-of-sample forecasting performance. In an empirical application of forecasting U.S. macroeconomic indicators, we find significant gains in out-of-sample forecast accuracy from our proposed trimming method
