Acropora horrida Santodomingo & Wallace & Johnson 2015
ACROPORA HORRIDA GROUP Diagnosis Colony shape within this group has a large phenotypic plasticity, ranging from open arborescent through hispidose to irregular caespitose. Radial corallites simple tubular with round calices, evenly sized; coenosteum bearing simple to moderate elaborated spinules, sometimes fused and solid (Wallace & Wolstenholme, 1998; Wallace, 1999). All extant species have indeterminate growth and inhabit subtidal sheltered habitats (Wallace, 1999). The fossil record of Indonesia has representatives of six extant species and one new extinct species is described to science.Published as part of Santodomingo, Nadiezhda, Wallace, Carden C. & Johnson, Kenneth G., 2015, Fossils reveal a high diversity of the staghorn coral genera Acropora and Isopora (Scleractinia: Acroporidae) in the Neogene of Indonesia, pp. 677-763 in Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society 175 (4) on page 728, DOI: 10.1111/zoj.12295, http://zenodo.org/record/533956
Acropora elegans Santodomingo & Wallace & Johnson 2015
ACROPORA ELEGANS GROUP Diagnosis Species with lightly structured coralla, mostly with horizontal branching that are sparsely arranged and sometimes anastomosed. Radial corallites tubular or appressed tubular, evenly sized, sparsely distributed; coenostum formed of elaborated spinules, densely to moderately arranged. All eight recent species of this group occur in calm waters, in relatively deep-water sites for Acropora, mostly below 20 m depth (Wallace, 1999; Wallace et al., 2012).Published as part of Santodomingo, Nadiezhda, Wallace, Carden C. & Johnson, Kenneth G., 2015, Fossils reveal a high diversity of the staghorn coral genera Acropora and Isopora (Scleractinia: Acroporidae) in the Neogene of Indonesia, pp. 677-763 in Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society 175 (4) on page 741, DOI: 10.1111/zoj.12295, http://zenodo.org/record/533956
