Petition from William M. Johnson and Peter McKinley to the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives. The petition indicates that Peter McKinley purchased land from Alvah Cable on Great Beaver Island in 1848. In 1851 William M. Johnson purchased some of the land from McKinley, and they formed a partnership under the name of McKinley & Co. The company was in trade, including fish trade and more. Mormons on the island ignored laws, eventually destroying property of the petitioners. The petition includes a list of the property and its value, and statements from others. The petitioners submit the petition as a claim to the Legislature
