Sovereign authority and the elaboration of law in the Bible and the ancient Near East
No full textFive Pentateuchal texts (Lev 24:10-23; Num 9:6-14; Num 15:32-36; Num 27:1-11; Num 36:1-12) offer unique visions of the elaboration of law in Israel's formative past. In response to individual legal cases, Yahweh enacts impersonal and general statutes reminiscent of biblical and ancient Near Eastern law collections. From the perspective of comparative law, Dylan R. Johnson proposes a new understanding of these texts as biblical rescripts: a legislative technique that enabled sovereigns to enact general laws on the basis of particular legal cases. Typological parallels drawn from cuneiform and Roman law illustrate the complex ideology informing the content and the form of these five cases. The author explores how latent conceptions of law, justice, and legislative sovereignty shaped these texts, and how the Priestly vision of law interacted with and transformed earlier legal traditions
City dwellers and backcountry folk: Ritual interactions between mobile peoples and urban centers in Late Bronze Age Syria
No full textThis article explores how sedentary and mobile peoples in Late Bronze Age Syria laid claim to shared social identities. The first section outlines how social identity was a matter of perspective, contrasting Middle Assyrian annalistic descriptions of hostile aḫlamû-Arameans with the rather amicable depiction of mobile peoples in the cuneiform archives of the Middle Euphrates (Emar and Ekalte). The second section examines how populations separated by time and space maintained a shared social identity through ritual. In addition to an identity defined by the town, three Emar rituals—the rites of Zarātu (Emar 446) and two forms of the zukru ritual (Emar 373+/Emar 375+)—evoked an older identity tied to the regional landscape. These rituals were a way for the inhabitants of Emar to identify with mobile groups who still occupied the Middle Euphrates, to lay claim to a common historical descent and a shared social identity embedded in the physical landscape and the worship of the deities who occupied it
From "White Christmas" to Sgt. Pepper: The Conceptual Revolution in Popular Music
No full textIrving Berlin, Cole Porter, and other songwriters of the Golden Era wrote popular songs that treated common topics clearly and simply. During the mid-1960s Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney created a new kind of popular music that was personal and often obscure. This shift, which transformed popular music from an experimental into a conceptual art, produced a distinct change in the creative life cycles of songwriters. Golden Era songwriters were generally at their best during their 30s and 40s, whereas since the mid-'60s popular songwriters have consistently done their best work during their 20s. The revolution in popular music occurred at a time when young innovators were making similar transformations in other arts: Jean-Luc Godard and his fellow New Wave directors created a conceptual revolution in film in the early '60s, just as Andy Warhol and other Pop artists made painting a conceptual activity.
Understanding the Consumption of Antimicrobial Resistance–Related Content on Social Media: Twitter Analysis
No full textBackground: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most pressing concerns in our society. Today, social media can function as an important channel to disseminate information about AMR. The way in which this information is engaged with depends on a number of factors, including the target audience and the content of the social media post.
Objective: The aim of this study is to better understand how AMR-related content is consumed on the social media platform Twitter and to understand some of the drivers of engagement. This is essential to designing effective public health strategies, raising awareness about antimicrobial stewardship, and enabling academics to effectively promote their research on social media.
Methods: We took advantage of unrestricted access to the metrics associated with the Twitter bot @AntibioticResis, which has over 13,900 followers. This bot posts the latest AMR research in the format of a title and a URL link to the PubMed page for an article. The tweets do not contain other attributes such as author, affiliation, or journal. Therefore, engagement with the tweets is only affected by the words used in the titles. Using negative binomial regression models, we measured the impact of pathogen names in paper titles, academic attention inferred from publication counts, and general attention estimated from Twitter on URL clicks to AMR research papers.
Results: Followers of @AntibioticResis consisted primarily of health care professionals and academic researchers whose interests comprised mainly AMR, infectious diseases, microbiology, and public health. Three World Health Organization (WHO) critical priority pathogens—Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacteriaceae—were positively associated with URL clicks. Papers with shorter titles tended to have more engagements. We also described some key linguistic characteristics that should be considered when a researcher is trying to maximize engagement with their publication.
Conclusions: Our finding suggests that specific pathogens gain more attention on Twitter than others and that the levels of attention do not necessarily correspond to their status on the WHO priority pathogen list. This suggests that more targeted public health strategies may be needed to raise awareness about AMR among specific pathogens. Analysis of follower data suggests that in the busy schedules of health care professionals, social media offers a fast and accessible gateway to staying abreast of the latest developments in this field

and Ellis Island, visited the

MET opera house as well
as taking a fast elevator

Recepção do texto bíblico em Man Gave Name To All The Animals de Bob Dylan
No full textThe American singer, songwriter and author Bob Dylan (b. 1941) has been for more than half a century one of the most distinguished and influential figures in the scene of world pop culture. This articles intends analyse how the biblical text of Genesis 2.19b-20a (“the man gave names to every type of animals”) in his song Man gave to all the animals, of 1979. Therefore, the article will have this structure: (1) presentation of some aspects of Bob Dylan’s life and work; (2) an analysis of lyrics and music of the mentioned song; (3) presentation of rereadings of the song in the scene of world pop culture (Brazil included) and (4) critical remarks about the reception of the biblical text in the aforementioned song. Thus, the article intends to present a “trialogue” between literature, music, theology and the religious studies.Bob Dylan (n. 1941), cantor, compositor e escritor estadunidense há mais de meio século tem sido uma das figuras mais destacadas e influentes no cenário da cultura pop mundial. O presente artigo tem objetivo de analisar como o texto bíblico de Gênesis 2.19b-20a (“o nome que o homem desse a todos os seres viventes, esse seria o nome deles. Deu nome o homem a todos os animais domésticos, às aves dos céus e a todos os animais selváticos”) em sua canção Man gave to all the animals, de 1979. and downs. The team was led by
MVP Blake Bullock who averaged
over 100 yards passing throughout
the season and led the team in
TD's. Bradley Marsden was named
the league's most outstanding
receiver. Other players named to

WRESTLING
team. Many competited at the provincial level and
placed well. Kathrin will be attending the
university of Regina next year on a wrestling
scholarship.

Hello Rebels Family! The 2019-2020 school year will be one forthe memory banks! We started the year with the
theme of being "superheroes"! Our staff was ready to build memories and learning with our students in September.
October, November, December and January came and went without a hitch. Little did we know that we would be
thrusted into a "new normal" of teaching and learning with COVID-19 taking the world by storm in March of 2020.
Our Rebel's family is a tough and resilient group! We shifted gears to our "new normal of online learning and
teaching. It is with great pride as principal of W.R. Myers High School that I saw students, staff and parents shift gears
seamlessly to a new learning environment. We certainly miss our students as they are the reason why we teach!

Julie and Lowell are an enthusiastic duo who have first-hand experience turning obstacles into opportunities. Julie, a Speech Pathologist, and Lowell, a Registered
Psychologist have been married for 10 years and currently live in Lethbridge, Alberta with theirtwo sons.
Lowell suffers from Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) that has required him to adjust to decreasing sight his entire life. He is now legally blind with no peripheral vision, reduced centra
vision, and no vision in low light.
Lowell was the first visually impaired contestant in Amazing Race’s history, and- relying on their teamwork- Julie and Lowell completed seven out of eleven legs on season four
of The Amazing Race Canada. Lowell now has his sights set on competing in road and track cycling at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. His ‘vision for 2020’ is just one way
his inspiring optimism and determination have turned tough times into positive experiences.
Julie and Lowell work tremendously well as a team. Julie has been by Lowell’s side every step of the way as he faces challenges to his independence. Lowell's emotional &
mental strength, unending patience, and sense of humour help with daily stressors as they live, work, and raise a family together.

The Outdoor Education students were hanging on fortheir lives as we travelled to the University of Lethbridge climbing
wall and that was just on the bus ride up there!! When we arrived the students had a fantastic time and many students
I? showed some great climbing skills as they climbed to the top of the wall. Awesome Job!
This year we only had one team compete in the
CardBoard boat Races. They did exceptionally
well (as you can see here). A blast was had by
all. Way to go girls!

This season we had about 10 runners come out for
Cross Country. All of our runners improved greatly
throughout the season as they showed great heart
and determination. This season was capped off by
a frigid day atzones in Medicine Hatwith a grueling,
hill filled course. Our runners bared the elements
and all ran extremely well, many posting some of

Dylan Saunders shot 92 and came in 31st. Alanna
Makarchuk shot 82 to win the South Zone
Individual Girls Competition. Alanna went on to
Provincials which were held at Alberta Spring Golf
Resortand Innisfail Golf and Country Club. Sheshot
84 and 87 to come in 6th place out of 67 girls.

It was an up and down year for the Football Rebels this year. The team finished 3rd in
the Dawson Division of the SAHSFLand ranked #9 in Alberta. They also qualified forthe
Zone Title Game and Provincial Quarter-Finals. This is the fourth year in a row that the
team qualified for Provincials. The team was led by league all-stars ConnorTams, Luke

This year our team were the masters of winning
semifinals. We ended up second in a few tournaments,
divisionals as well as in 3J zone competition. Overall

The JV girls were a competitive group who fought hard in
league play and tournaments. We had a great group of
ten girls who were coachable, motivated, hard working
and talented. Our league play was tough but we battled
hard and narrowly missed out on playoffs. Mrs. Ressler

This year's team was a great mix of athletes from grades 10 through 12 who all had
to compete at the Varsity level due to low numbers of males wanting to play. The
two grade 12 leaders on the team, helped lead the way for a younger team and set
the example day in and day out. A highlight was their solid effort at a large Calgary
tournament in October. They went into the 2A Zone Championships as the #6
ranked team in the South and narrowly missed out on making it to the Zone Final
and an opportunity for Provincials! Coach Lai wants to wish the graduating players
all the best in the future and is looking forward to watching the returning players
develop for next season!
HEART & HUSTLE - Hayley Jones -
Hayley played with passion and
energy. She loved playing volleyball
and she was one of the most
adaptable players on this year'steam.
She was always there to pump up her
teammates when they were down on
themselves. A well deserved award!
REBEL AWARD - Vicky Shimbashi -
Vicky is a hard working athlete that
always put the pedal to the floor when
she played. She exhibited all the
characteristics of a Rebel. She was
enthusiastic, she tried hard every time
she played. Vicky earned this award by
playing every point until the whistle blew.
MVP - Anika Steed - Anika was our
team captain. She led with her
actions and was a solid role model
for her peers. In myopinion, she is
a well deserved recipientforthis
award as it was a pleasure to coach
such a solid player and teammate.
We had a season filled with ups and downs but played hard to
the end. This group of players was very talented and we put
ourselves in a position to battle fora provincial berth. We came
op a bit short in the zone semifinal against Vauxhall but the
team never gave up. I was very proud of this group of young
people and how they improved. The following players will be

The W.R. Myers Curling Team had another great season. This
year there was only a Mixed Team. It was comprised of Alanna
Makarchuk(skip), Konnor Unser (third), Ashleigh Little
(second), Emily Carver (second), Brady Swistin (lead), Alex
Makarchuk (lead) and Andrea Makarchuk (coach). Divisionals
were held at the Taber Curling Club and the team beat St.
Marys 12-2 and St. Michaels 9-2 in round robin. But
unfortunately lost to St. Michaels in the finals 7-5. This year the
South Zone added Mixed Doubles to Zones. So we entered
three teams to this event and had great success. Ashleigh and
Brady finished third, Alex and Emily fifth and Alanna and
Konnor sixth.

The Physics 20s had to demonstrate their
knowledge offerees and energy by building a roller
coaster than included a vertical loop-the-loop. The
students got creative with their different use of
materials, and Alanna even involved a jump in hers
where the marble blew a candle out! It is always fun
how the students interpret the assignment in
different ways to achieve the same end goal. Well
done!
This year Science 14-24 learned all about
chemical reactions. They did this by making
putty using Borax and glue. They also blew
bubbles in old CD's. They also learned
about meltingand boilingpoints of different
substances, and the difference between
acids and bases.

Wilford improved a great deal this year! He
would try to ask questions on how to improve
his game. He was always respectful to me as
a coach and also to his teammates. He
wanted the whole team to improve and this
desire to help his team makes him the
perfect candidate for the Coaches award.
HART AND HUSTLE - Brennan Abela-
Brennan brought his best to every game! He
wanted to improve and help his teammates
improve. Brennan is a very athletic player and a
player who tried to help his teammates improve.
He showed intensity and heart on the court for
each game he played. He represented the heart
and hustle of our team this year.
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER-zach
Giesbrecht Bael - - Zach came to play every
game and put his full effort onto the court. I was
impressed by his desire and energy to play the
sport that he loves. He helped his teammates
that were learning the game and thereby helped
to grow his leadership in turn. Zach is a well
deserved recipient of this award.

OurTier 1 Girls fought hard all season, headlined by wins over St. Mary sand
Brooks. With many first time players on the team the team grew in skill level
drastically and were hard to play against with their scrappy, heart filled play
style. Leadingthe way in scoring was Teya Harris and Addyson Bennet, Hailey
Kane as our 3pt marksman and Rebounding and Blocks machine Alyssa Erick.
Through many ups and downs all season these girls never lost their positive
attitude and exemplified the traits of being a Rebel.

The JV Boys enjoyed a very successful season, finishing with a record of 20 wins with only 6 defeats. They
finished their league schedule with a record of 11-3, good for 2nd place in the regular standings. The boys
played long stretches this year short-handed, as a number of our players went down with various ailments
and injuries. The team deserves credit for their resilience and perseverance despite the trying circumstances.
Particularthanks goes out to the players’ parents and families, and especially to Coach Bowes; our co-coach
and "BLOB and SLOB” specialist. Many of these players will need to step up to a varsity position next year.
