John A. Mercer, 76, passed away peacefully October 2, 2023 with his partner, Lindsey, by his side. Born on July 22, 1947, John was a member of the Palo Alto Players, where he excelled in many of their productions

John Bascom Mercer (1855-1913) was a respected shoe merchant in Wilmington, NC. His older brother died at Gettysburg. He invented and patented a metal coin holder. John's wife, Mary E. Lilly Mercer (1868-1935), was born in Albemarle, NC. Both are buried in Oakdale Cemetery

View of facade and cast iron fence; Designed by John S. Norris for General Hugh Weedon Mercer; construction of the house began in 1860. Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1869 by the new owner, John Wilder. The house was the scene of the shooting death of Jim Williams' assistant, Danny Hansford, a story that is retold in the 1994 John Berendt novel "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil". Williams was one of Savannah’s earliest and most dedicated private restorationists, credited with saving over 50 houses, including this one. James Mercer ’91 is no stranger to the fast-paced world of sports management, and that\u27s certainly the case in his current role as commercial director for Envision Racing\u27s Formula E team.
Formula E is the Fédération Internationale de l\u27Automobile\u27s (FIA\u27s) single-seat car racing series, which uses only electric vehicles. Mercer got his start in sports at Illinois State University as a men\u27s tennis student-athlete and history major, which led him to roles as a player agent and in professional tennis, rugby, and motorsports organizations.
