No full textI. This study attempts to investigate the address and reference terms between Korean husbands and wives in different situations by means of the questionnaire. In addition to the results by the questionnaire, questions relating to gender, age, culture and society were partially answered through out this survey.
II. This study attempts to analyze metaphorical extension of Korean compound verbs. The patterns found in Korean compound verbs are similar to the work of Abby and Chelliah. That is secondary verbs in the construction of compound verbs which have two sequential verbs have bleached meanings in the processes of grammaticalization

Fictionalized Indian English Speech and the Representations of Ideology in Indian Novels in English
No full textI investigate the spoken dialogue of four Indian novels in English: Mulk Raj Anand's Untouchable (1935), Khushwant Singh's Train to Pakistan (1956), Rasipuram Krishnaswami Narayan's The World of Nagaraj (1990), and Rohinton Mistry's Family Matters (2002). Roger Fowler has said that literature, as a form of discourse, articulates ideology; it is through linguistic criticism (combination of literary criticism and linguistic analyses) that the ideologies in a literary text are uncovered. Shobhana Chelliah in her study of Indian novels in English concludes that the authors use Indian English (IndE) as a device to characterize buffoons and villains. Drawing upon Fowler's and Chelliah's framework, my investigation employs linguistic criticism of the four novels to expose the ideologies reflected in the use of fictionalized English in the Indian context. A quantitative inquiry based on thirty-five IndE features reveals that the authors appropriate these features, either to a greater or lesser degree, to almost all their characters, suggesting that IndE functions as the mainstream variety in these novels and creating an illusion that the authors are merely representing the characters' unique Indian worldviews. But within this dialect range, the appropriation of higher percentages of IndE features to specific characters or groups of characters reveal the authors' manipulation of IndE as a counter-realist and ideological device to portray deviant and defective characters. This subordinating of IndE as a substandard variety of English functions as the dominant ideology in my investigation of the four novels. Nevertheless, I also uncover the appropriation of a higher percentage of IndE features to foreground the masculinity of specific characters and to heighten the quintessentially traditional values of the older Brahmin generation, which justifies a contesting ideology about IndE that elevates it as the prestigious variety, not an aberration. Using an approach which combines literary criticism with linguistic analysis, I map and recommend a multidisciplinary methodology, which allows for a reevaluation of fictionalized IndE speech that goes beyond impressionistic analyses

The Psychodynamics of the Client-Consultant Relationship.
No full textThis paper reveals the lack of discovery of the unwritten or unspoken expectations of clients in a client-consultant relationship. Successful management of these expectations on the part of the consultant could lead to fruitful outcomes for both clients and consultants. In addition, consultants who are adept at managing these expectations could gain a competitive advantage in a highly competitive profession. This paper reviews both academic and practitioner literature in relation to factors that are seen as significantly affecting consulting assignment outcomes for both client and consultant. It also highlights the dearth of research on investigation of the interplay, connectedness, and relationship among the various factors identified in isolation in the existing literature. In addressing this gap, the author proposes a conceptual framework with a broad research agenda with research questions to establish the linkages among the significant success factors identified in the literature. This paper makes a valuable contribution toward future research in this respect by providing a clear conceptual framework and robust research agenda

National innovation systems in the Asia Pacific: A comparative analysis

In the final Chapter of Part One Clarke, Chelliah and Pattinson offer a comparative survey of the contrasting innovation systems of the Asia Pacific. While Asian economies have achieved rapid industrial progress, as they reach the global technological frontier they need to develop new institutional capabilities for sustaining international competitiveness. Foundational institutions including education, research, law and finance require coordination around coherent national innovation systems to sustain commitment to innovative products and processes. Technological innovation is more likely to succeed "when the elements of the broader environment surrounding firm's activities are well articulated into a system, than in situations where each element works largely isolation... The overall innovation performance of an economy depends not so much on how specific formal institutions (firms, research institutes, universities) perform, but on how they interact with each other as elements of a collective system of knowledge creation and use, and on their interplay with social institutions (such as value, norms and legal frameworks)" (Dodgson in Elgar companion to neo-Schumpeterian economics.
