    No full text
Jisc Legal has produced a ‘need to know’ online training package in copyright law – designed to bring academic staff and those supporting academic staff up to speed on legally using other people’s materials in teaching and learning. It is a standalone learning module which takes about an hour to complete and consists of some video, some audio segments, some animations and some text pages. It is available to HE institutions in the UK to train lecture staff on the proper way to use other people’s work in their own work. Target Audience The target audience, in the first instance, is small to medium size learning providers. In particular front line staff that the institution decides require staff development training in copyright. The learning module will benefit institutions that need to prepare staff to deal with copyright in the learning environment. The module is particularly aimed at staff preparing, compiling and delivering learning content to learners. Learning Outcome After completion of the learning module a learner (member of staff) will be expected to be aware of the legal issues with making copies of and digitising images, video, music and text materials particularly for uploading to virtual learning environments understand the significance of ownership in the context of learning materials understand the operation of licences in the context of learning materials understand how materials can be altered and adapted lawfully In particular the outcome for course participants will be an understanding of what materials they can use what materials they definitely should not use what to do with materials where it is unclear whether there is permission to use them or not. The module is tailored to suit learning providers in terms of terminology and working examples. The module have a direct benefit by the sharing of good practice among learning providers. It is flexible enough to be adapted to differing levels of responsibility within institutions and can be enabled to track which staff members have been trained.
