    Analysis on the Negative Impact of AI Development on Employment and Its Countermeasures

    No full text
    While benefiting society, the technological progress of artificial intelligence (AI) has also brought a rising number of unemployed people and breeded polarization in income distribution by threatening the low-skill and labor-intensive industry. To solve the negative impact of AI, policies about the taxation and subsidy on AI and the income-supporting program can be proposed. However, neither of them will work well to achieve sustainable social development. In the long run, technological progress will not be influenced by government policies, and capital will find its own path to a rapid growth. Income-supporting programs are short-term solutions, being ineffective and not sustainable. Based on the literature collected, the author came up with two practical methods to deal with the negative impact brought by AI to employment: the industrial relocation as a short-term solution and the reframing of the education system as a long-term solution

    Between identity and internationalisation: vision and reality in the Malaysian education system

    Focusing mainly on third level education, this thesis presents a critical analysis of the Malaysian education system. It investigates to what extent the multicultural model promoted in the Government's Education Development Plan 200 1-20 10 (MoE 2003) has been effectively translated into reality and explains the underlying aims of the Malaysian Government's efforts, to create a unified multicultural society and to advance economically on the international stage. Data were collected over a 14 month period of living and working in Malaysia, and consist of a combination of empirical research, namely 5 1 interviews with students, staff, parents and government bodies, 11 questionnaires, and classroom observations, along with references fiom relevant articles in local newspapers, educational journals and government documents. A qualitative analysis of the data revealed that the aspirations expressed by government policies do not always reflect the practice on the ground. As Malaysia seeks to attract international students and international business in order to forge a modem state, and show itself as a model of excellence in multicultural society, there are tensions that exist and strategies that contradict each other. The thesis explores these areas. With an annual expansion of approximately 10% in Higher Education Institutions (International Students in Higher Education in Ireland 2006), Ireland is experiencing a rapid expansion in the number of international students at third level. As this phenomenon is relatively new to Ireland, there appears to be no prevailing 'norms of multicultural education in Ireland' - and little guidance from the government. It would appear to be the ideal time to look around the world for models of excellence. Drawing on the Malaysian experience, conclusions and suggestions have been outlined in the final chapter which may help Ireland deal with the issues which will inevitably arise as a result of internationalisation on an institutional level, if the development is not carefully managed

    The Research on the Valuation of Chinese Internet Companies------Based On DCF-BS Method

    The concept of "Internet plus" was first mentioned in NPC &CPPCC (National People Congress and Chinese People Political Consultative Conference) in 2015. With the advent of Internet Plus era, the development of Internet industry has been accelerating. At the same time, the issue of how to accurately assess the value of Internet enterprises is widely valued. In 1963, Modigliani and Miller established a cash flow discount model. This model is rapidly becoming the core of modern enterprise value assessment due to its practicality and universality. However, the high uncertainty of future earnings of Internet enterprises, light assets, and reliance on customer traffic make traditional enterprises' value assessment methods no longer fully applicable to Internet enterprises. Therefore, determined the scientific and reasonable value assessment method system, which might facilitate the continuous development of the Internet industry, and help investors make better investment decisions is very important and urgent for Internet enterprises. The academic community now have different opinions on the determination of the value evaluation method of Internet enterprises. Some scholars believe that the basic position of cash flow discount method in the valuation of Internet enterprises cannot be changed. Some scholars point out that the basic position of cash flow discount method has changed. In some cases, it not only underestimates the future profit opportunities of Internet companies, but also fails. The author believes that the latter is more reasonable. Therefore, this dissertation proposes to combine the cash flow discount method with the real option method to evaluate the value of the enterprise. This paper makes empirical analysis of seven Internet companies, contrasts with the results of a single cash flow discount method, and then find one method which closer to the actual result. So as to determine a scientific and effective method of Internet enterprise value evaluation. Finally, the author gives the future researchers some suggestions about internet company valuation methods

    Doctor Imitator: Hand-Radiography-based Bone Age Assessment by Imitating Scoring Methods

    No full text
    Bone age assessment is challenging in clinical practice due to the complicated bone age assessment process. Current automatic bone age assessment methods were designed with rare consideration of the diagnostic logistics and thus may yield certain uninterpretable hidden states and outputs. Consequently, doctors can find it hard to cooperate with such models harmoniously because it is difficult to check the correctness of the model predictions. In this work, we propose a new graph-based deep learning framework for bone age assessment with hand radiographs, called Doctor Imitator (DI). The architecture of DI is designed to learn the diagnostic logistics of doctors using the scoring methods (e.g., the Tanner-Whitehouse method) for bone age assessment. Specifically, the convolutions of DI capture the local features of the anatomical regions of interest (ROIs) on hand radiographs and predict the ROI scores by our proposed Anatomy-based Group Convolution, summing up for bone age prediction. Besides, we develop a novel Dual Graph-based Attention module to compute patient-specific attention for ROI features and context attention for ROI scores. As far as we know, DI is the first automatic bone age assessment framework following the scoring methods without fully supervised hand radiographs. Experiments on hand radiographs with only bone age supervision verify that DI can achieve excellent performance with sparse parameters and provide more interpretability.Comment: Original Title: "Doctor Imitator: A Graph-based Bone Age Assessment Framework Using Hand Radiographs" @inproceedings{chen2020doctor, title={Doctor imitator: A graph-based bone age assessment framework using hand radiographs}, author={Chen, Jintai and Yu, Bohan and Lei, Biwen and Feng, Ruiwei and Chen, Danny Z and Wu, Jian}, booktitle={MICCAI}, year={2020}

    Looking at the past for help in the present: The role of historical photos in middle and secondary history classes

    No full text
    The purpose of this article is to provide guidance on how teachers can introduce historical photographs to their history class. Werner (2002) argues that visual texts are no longer simple tools that enhance the look of a written text, but are central to student learning. We (one author is a veteran social studies teacher and the other author is an education professor) specifically address Werner’s call for social studies educators to teach students how to be critical readers of visual texts. In the manuscript, we discuss the role of historical photographs in social studies classes and provide practical methods and activities teachers can use to introduce more images to their students. By bridging students’ visually rich outside world with the world inside the classroom, we seek to enable leaners to be interpreters rather than uncritical consumers of visual texts

    Problem-based learning: Teachers who flourish and flounder

    No full text
    This essay explores problem-based learning (PBL) by analyzing case study data from two teachers at a public high school. The purpose of this study is to explore teachers’ facilitation of the classroom learning environment during PBL instruction. Data included observations, interviews, and a card sort activity. Achievements and obstacles with PBL implementation are described. Findings reveal that teachers must guide motivation, facilitation, collaboration, and reflection in order to flourish when implementing PBL.Journal Articl
