[[abstract]]In recent years, newborn birth rate has reduced year by year in Taiwan. It causes many schools to be compelled to reduce classes. Therefore, the unused space in these schools increases. Many schools start to ponder how to use these spaces effectively, and expand students' study resources. One of them is to set up art galleries. In 2003, the Ji-Lin gallery at Ji-Lin preliminary school was established in Taipei ,and it serves as the place for community affairs and multidisciplinary education interactions. In recent years, the Ji-Lin gallery on this basis processes many exhibitions and provides students with multiple learning opportunities. This study analyses literature to the evolution of the Ji-Lin gallery and the theory of exhibition. And it surveys the exhibition situations of the Ji-Lin gallery. Besides, it takes in the interview opinions of the two managers who are in charge of the Ji-Lin gallery. The questionnaire was surveyed by the visitors out of the Ji-Lin gallery, the teachers and students at Ji-Lin preliminary school, and the teachers at Tai-Ping preliminary school with a small community gallery. The survey compares the questionnaire result of the teachers at Ji-Lin with the result of the teachers at Tai-Ping. This study purpose analyses the effect of the set-up and space application of art exhibition in preliminary schools. This research result finds that the schools can offer the students more opportunities to join and visit the exhibition if they have the space of art show. From the viewpoint of the breadth of campus environmental education and art and humanities curriculum, the exhibition can strengthen the interaction between schools and communities and teach students how to appreciate art. In addition, the exhibition can develop the interpretation abilities of students and teach students the correct ceremonies of visit. This study lists some difficulties and suggestions for the researchers and the schools, that are interested in the use of spare space in schools.
