This qualitative study explored patient perspectives of quality of life and occupations of people with medullary sponge kidney (MSK). Analysis of open-ended surveys from Facebook support group members revealed that people with MSK, a chronic condition, define QOL as participation in valued occupations.

Are Corn and Soybean Trend Yields Changing in Illinois?
No full textCrop yields are influenced by a complex combination of factors, including weather, seed genetics, soil quality, and production management. Regardless, yields still tend to show a general trend over time, which is referred to as the “trend yield.†There has been much debate over whether improved technology has caused trend yields to change in recent years. Many experts believe recent corn yield increases were caused by advancements in biotechnology for seed genetics. It has been suggested that a lack of research on soybean genetics has led to a plateau in the soybean trend yield. It has been widely accepted that these new trends began in the mid-1990s and that they should be used for estimating future yields. However, weather should be taken into consideration because it can have a large effect on trend yields. The purpose of this paper is to examine whether trend yields in Illinois for corn and soybeans have changed since the mid-1990s. The effect of both weather and technology on yields in Illinois is estimated over the period 1960-2008. The results of this research provide evidence that weather plays a significant and important role in determining yields.Crop Production/Industries,
Para leer a Unamuno desde nuevas perspectivas
No full textEste artículo es una lectura de Unamuno desde una perspectiva postestructuralista. Para ello pretendo emplear las herramientas teóricas y discursivas que estas corrientes nos brindan para argumentar que Unamuno es un autor cuyo estudio y análisis se puede plantear desde una óptica contemporánea. El carácter del artículo es por lo tanto sobre todo metodológico; no es mi intención presentar ningún tema en concreto, sino mostrar, con algunos ejemplos y citas de varios autores, su cercanía con ciertos discursos de la filosofía contemporánea.This paper is a reading about Unamuno from a post-structuralist viewpoint. For this aim, I used the theoretical and discursive tools that these philosophies provide to argue that Unamuno is an author whose study and analysis can be considered from a current outlook. The style of the paper is mostly methodological, not being my intention to explain a specific topic, but to show his closeness to certain discourses of contemporary philosophy through some examples and quotes from various authors

No full textThe author used this phrase to begin his opening lecture at the 6 th Seminar Work shop “Libros, alas de la Creatividad: La lectura, ventana a la diversidad” (“Books, the wings of Creativity: Reading, a window to diversity”), organized by División de Educación Básica del Centro de Investigación y Docencia en Educación (CIDE) of University Nacional, Costa Rica (CIDE's Department of Basic Education) in June of 2004. It narrates the experience of “Libros para Niños” (“Books for Children”), a non-governmental organization that has been encouraging and promoting the reading habit in Nicaragua for eleven years. Several projects developed by that NGO are presented, such as “Dame de leer” (Give me something to read), for preschoolers; the “Bibliotecaulas” (“Libraries within classrooms”), applied to elementary school and “Rincones de Cuentos” (“Story Corners”) or children's reading rooms, developed along with the community. A sample activity carried out whit sixth graders is presented and analyzed; moreover, important conclusions about the way in which teachers promote the reading habit on a regular basic are drawn
