Not examined by these authors. Specimen examined. CHINA: Taiwan, Yanminshan, 30.iv. 1996, N. Ohba, male (ANIC). Taibei County, Wulai village, 20 April. 2008, Jiaxiong Wu, male and female (Fu collection). Diagnosis. One of three species of Aquatica with dark brown elytra; most similar to A. wuhana sp. n., distinguished from both A. lateralis and A. wuhana sp. n. by the pale pronotum (Fig. 16) (both of these species have median dark pronotal colouring); aedeagus with LL not inturned, not hooked, and lacking teeth along inner basal margins; ML with basal half or more bulbous, slender in apical area, aedeagal sheath with sternite apically entire; not strongly bent to right in posterior half; sheath sternite about as wide in posterior half as anterior half; females macropterous and coloured as for males. Jeng et al. (2003: 545) indicated ‘larvae usually live in ditches or small creeks with shallow and clear water, fast current and cobble benthos’.Published as part of Fu, Xinhua, Ballantyne, Lesley & Lambkin, Christine L., 2010, Aquatica gen. nov. from mainland China with a description of Aquatica Wuhana sp. nov. Aquatica hydrophila (Jeng et al.) Luciola hydrophila Jeng et al., 2003: 544 (Fig. 39). Aquatica hydrophila (Jeng et al.). Fu et al., 2010: 6. Diagnosis. Protergum having rounded sides, lacking pale markings (Jeng et al. 2003; Fig. 39); thoracic terga 2, 3 and abdominal terga 1–8 with wide pale median line, otherwise lacking any pale markings, plates obliquely emarginate in anterolateral corners. Pygopodia with basal row having two retractable filaments. Remarks. Larvae not examined by the authors herein. Jeng et al. (2003) briefly described the larva which they considered approached that of L. owadai; differentiated on the basis of dorsal colour patterns and pygopod structure. FIGURES 1–6. Aquatica ficta larval head, 6 th instar, SEM. 1 anterior, dorsal surface uppermost; 2 dorsal anterior half of head; 3 ventral; 4 right antenna; 5–6 maxillary palpus; 6 detail apical sensory area.Published as part of Fu, Xinhua, Ballantyne, Lesley & Lambkin, Christine, 2012, The external larval morphology of aquatic and terrestrial Luciolinae fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae), pp. 1-34 in Zootaxa 3405 on pages 9-10, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.21130

AbstractThe genus Afropsephenoides Basilewsky is revised. A new genus of Psephenoidinae, Malacopsephenoides Jeng & Satô gen.n. is established. Psephenoides japonicus Masuda is transferred to Malacopsephenoides, and P. volatilis Champion is transferred to Afropsephenoides. Two new species, Afropsephenoides ruthae Jeng & Yang sp.n. (South Africa) and Malacopsephenoides eureka Jeng & Jäch sp.n. (China), are described. A key to genera is given. The zoogeography and phylogeny of Psephenoidinae are discussed. </jats:sec
