>> lire la suite From 9 to 12 June 2015, the Revue de la régulation was the privileged partner of the International Conference on Research & Regulationon the theme of “The Theory of Regulation in Times of Crisis” which was held in Paris at Paris Diderot University and at the INALCO. The conference was attended by more than 200 delegates from highly varied horizons, with a particularly large contingent from Asia, notably from China and Japan. The research presented at this conference, the subjects of which were extremely international in nature, will be commented on in this review at a later date. This issue of the Régulation Review is devoted to a special feature entitled “The Political Economy of Health care. An exemplary example”, coordinated and presented by Philippe Batifoulier and Jean-Paul Domin. >> read mor
Contribution to the flora of Romania (V) Danthosieglingia Domin ( = Sieglingia x Danthonia) new for the Romanian flora
The author collected on the ";Ciup"; Hill in the neighbourhood of the town Cluj a material wich was identified as Danthosieglingia x breviaristata (Beck) Domin (fig.1/2), a bigeneric hybrid unknown till this time from Roumania. The hybrid was found together with his parental species Danthonia provincialis DC. (fig.1/1) and Sieglingia decumbens (L.) Bernh. (fig.1/3) on the indicated territory
Joseph Franz Domin (1754-1819) and His Contribution to Electrotherapy
Joseph Franz Domin (1754-1819) as the croatian theologian and philosopher is primary animist (vitalist), and in practice he has worked as physicist - mechanist, although the humoral theory at that time will be a foundation of medical philosophy more than twenty centuries from Hippocrates to the half of 19th century and Virchow's cellular theory. Besides his academic and researcher's work he has been working on electrotherapy of numerous conditions and diseases about which he has published (cephalea, neuralgia, paresis, plegias, pterigyum oculi, rheumatisms, Gicht, epilepsia, arthralgias, febres etc). The latter is undoubtedly progressive natural scientific theory which at that time have widely spread at Habsburgs Monarchy Universities and as proof between first and second Wien's medical school by integration of other scientific branches (physics and chemistry) in medicine. According to the various researchers Domin was an author of the first electrotherapy manual published in Zagreb, practitioner of electrotherapy in pregalvanic era in contemporary Austrian empire and for sure a scientist who have left a significant remark in contemporary applied physics in medicine, which continued in professional and scientific elaborations not until the end of the 19th century
Interethnic differences in the accuracy of anthropometric indicators of obesity in screening for high risk of coronary heart disease.
BACKGROUND: Cut points for defining obesity have been derived from mortality data among Whites from Europe and the United States and their accuracy to screen for high risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) in other ethnic groups has been questioned. OBJECTIVE: To compare the accuracy and to define ethnic and gender-specific optimal cut points for body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) when they are used in screening for high risk of CHD in the Latin-American and the US populations. METHODS: We estimated the accuracy and optimal cut points for BMI, WC and WHR to screen for CHD risk in Latin Americans (n=18 976), non-Hispanic Whites (Whites; n=8956), non-Hispanic Blacks (Blacks; n=5205) and Hispanics (n=5803). High risk of CHD was defined as a 10-year risk > or =20% (Framingham equation). The area under the receiver operator characteristic curve (AUC) and the misclassification-cost term were used to assess accuracy and to identify optimal cut points. RESULTS: WHR had the highest AUC in all ethnic groups (from 0.75 to 0.82) and BMI had the lowest (from 0.50 to 0.59). Optimal cut point for BMI was similar across ethnic/gender groups (27 kg/m(2)). In women, cut points for WC (94 cm) and WHR (0.91) were consistent by ethnicity. In men, cut points for WC and WHR varied significantly with ethnicity: from 91 cm in Latin Americans to 102 cm in Whites, and from 0.94 in Latin Americans to 0.99 in Hispanics, respectively. CONCLUSION: WHR is the most accurate anthropometric indicator to screen for high risk of CHD, whereas BMI is almost uninformative. The same BMI cut point should be used in all men and women. Unique cut points for WC and WHR should be used in all women, but ethnic-specific cut points seem warranted among men

The Road to the White House: Using Experiential Learning in the Classroom
This case study presents a first hand account of experiential learning undertaken by the author and 16 Mercer University students during the 2008 presidential nominating season. The author was able to arrange a seminar entitled “The Road to the White House” which included an observation trip to South Carolina for the Republican Primary, 16-21 January, 2008, where students both witnessed and participated in the unfolding events of the 2008 presidential campaig
