The Adventures of James Tully
THE ADVENTURES OF JAMES TULLY is a novel in stories depicting James Tully\u27s experience growing up in the light of his mother\u27s mental illness and the discovery that his family has secrets important to his understanding of himself. After trying to negotiate these difficulties in his working class home town of Clinton, Massachusetts, he embarks on a search for the place where he really belongs. THE ADVENTURES OF JAMES TULLY spans the protagonist’s life from the age of ten through the period following his graduation from college at twenty-one. The book is divided into three sections.
As is typical in the bildungsroman form, the protagonist is a young man who forsakes his home in the search for experience and spiritual enlightenment. Ultimately, James builds a new sense of self as he moves from seeing his world as horrible and frightening to finding in it the promise of beauty
A New Kind of Europe? Democratic Integration in the European Union
The most urgent problem facing the European Union is to develop the best approach to conflicts over integration in the fields of culture, economics and foreign policy. The paper argues that a particular form of democratic integration is better than the two predominant approaches. This approach draws on the actual practices of the democratic negotiation of integration that citizens engage in on a daily basis but which tend to be overlooked and overridden in the dominant approaches.economics; democracy; law; diversity/homogeneity
Ökoloogiline kodakondsus James Tully avalikus filosoofias
Käesolev bakalaureusetöö keskendub ökoloogilise kodakondsuse ideele James Tully avalikus
filosoofias. Töö eesmärgiks on rekonstrueerida James Tully ökoloogilise kodakondsuse
teooria ning tuua välja selles esinevad vastuolud. Töös esitatakse esmalt Tully ökoloogilise
kodakondsuse teooria kolmeosalise struktuurina: vundamendiks on avalik filosoofia, selle
peale asetub mitmekesine kodakondsus ning struktuur tipneb ökoloogilise eetikaga. Seejärel
esitatakse vastava teooria kriitika. Selleks uuritakse esmalt Tully eristatud vastandlike
kohalikul tasandil takistab Tullyl pakkumast lahendusi institutsionaalsel tasandil. Järeldustes
leitakse, et James Tully ökoloogiline kodakondsus annab küll keskkonnaprobleemidele
vastamiseks vajaliku hoiaku, kuid ei anna piisavalt praktilisi juhiseid, kuidas praeguse
kliimakriisi valguses tegutseda.https://www.ester.ee/record=b5451282*es

Public Philosophy in a New Key
These two ambitious volumes from one of the world's most celebrated political philosophers present a new kind of political and legal theory that James Tully calls a public philosophy, and a complementary new way of thinking about active citizenship, called civic freedom. Professor Tully takes the reader step-by-step through the principal debates in political theory and the major types of political struggle today. These volumes represent a genuine landmark in political theory from the author of Strange Multiplicity, one of the most influential and distinctive commentaries on politics and the contemporary world published in recent years. This first volume of Public Philosophy in a New Key consists of a presentation and defence of a contextual approach to public philosophy and civic freedom, and then goes on to study specific struggles over recognition and distribution within states.</jats:p
