    Nautilids from the upper cretaceous of the James Ross Basin, Antarctic Peninsula

    To date, Cretaceous nautilids from the Antarctic Peninsula have received little attention and only a single species had been reported, Eutrephoceras simile Spath, from Seymour, Snow Hill, and James Ross islands. Currently, it is considered a synonym of Eutrephoceras subplicatum (Steinmann), which has also been described from the Upper Cretaceous of central Chile, southern Argentina and Angola. Here, we report and describe E. subplicatum in detail, based on specimens from the Lower Campanian–Maastrichtian of Vega, Seymour and James Ross islands, presenting, for the first time, embryonic conch features related to the palaeoecology of these organisms. The nauta of this species had a diameter of approximately 30 mm with 5–6 septa. In addition, we describe a new species, Eutrephoceras antarcticum, and one specimen assigned to the same genus in open nomenclature, both recovered from the Lower Campanian beds of James Ross Island.Fil: Cichowolski, Marcela.     Meteorological data from 2017-2019 on the plateau of James Ross Island, Antarctic Peninsula

    These data describe meteorological measurements on the plateau of James Ross Island [Position: 64.19889°S 57.59761°W]. Specifications of the applied sensors and their mounting heights are described in the attached metadata. All measurements (except of Relative Humidity with one sample measurement per hour) were done with a scanning interval of 10 seconds, and afterwards averaged over one hour. In the case of the sonic ranging sensor and the firn compaction, measurements were done for only 5 minutes per hour due to power consumptions. All data are only filtered by outliers which were easy to discover. Thus, erroneous measurements (e.g., in the case of the sonic raning sensor), can still be part of the data

Rapid City, USA.Mosasaurs were diverse and specialized Cretaceous squamate reptiles adapted to marine life. Although mosasaur record is diverse and abundant worldwide, and the knowledge of the group improved during the last years, there are certain geographic areas and stratigraphic horizons in which the records are still scarce. Many years of cooperative explorations and researches of the División Paleontología Vertebrados (Museo de La Plata, Argentina) and the Instituto Antártico Argentino (IAA), Argentina, result in a collection of mosasaur materials from James Ross Basin (NE of the Antarctic Peninsula) that it is of special interest. Campanian and Maastrichtian mosasaurs have been recovered from Santa Marta Formation on James Ross Island, and from López de Bertodano Formation on Vega and Seymour Islands. Systematic analysis on these materials demonstrated the presence of tylosaurine mosasaurs in the Campanian, and the co-occurrence of mosasaurines, tylosaurines, and plioplatecarpines in the Maastrichtian of James Ross Basin. Of special interest is the closely phylogenetic relationship of the tylosaurine Taniwhasaurus antarcticus, from the Late Campanian of James Ross Island, with tylosaurines from the middle Campanian of New Zealand. Analyses of bone microstructure permit to explore interesting aspects of mosasaur ecology. Mosasaurs exhumed from the Fm. López de Bertodano on Seymour Island exhibit two different bone microstructures. This fact suggests that Antarctic mosasaurs could have partitioned the water column
