Gyges’ ring and New York’s Hot-Dog: a Kantian constructivism analysis of moral motivation
The dissolution of the Venetian religious houses and the keeper of the library of St Mark, Jacopo Morelli, under Venetian, French, and Austrian governments (1768-1819)
The article examines the way the Keeper of the Library of St Mark, Jacopo Morelli, managed to defend the library as much as he could under three different governments: Venetian, French and Austrian. Morelli collaborates with the representatives of each government while seeking to secure the most precious treasures of "his" library and obtain a selectio of manuscripts and books from the secularized religious houses thus exceedingly incrementing the number of volumes of the Library of St Mark
Bibliotheca Pinelliana. A cataloque of the magnificent and celebrated library of Maffei Pinelli, late of Venice: comprehending an unparalleled collection of the Greek, Roman, and Italian authors, from the origin of printing: with many of the earliest editions printed upon vellum, and finely illuminated; a ... number of ... Greek and Latin manuscripts ...
The present catalog purports to be "an exact abridgment" of the six volume catalog by Jacopo Morelli published at Venice in 1787. The entire collection sold by Pinelli's heirs to the bookseller, James Edwards, did not, however, reach London. While in transit, on three vessels, one of the ships was captured by pirates and the books thrown into the sea. Edwards' present sale of the remainder brought £9,000. cf.
