EFFECTS OF A/B-RATIO IN STRONTIUM DOPED LANTHANUM COBALTITE Martin Søgaard a;b, Peter V. Lyngby, Denmark ABSTRACT The electrical conductivity of (La0.85Sr0.15)sCoO3-δ, s = 0.98; s = 1.00; s = 1.02 has been measured. The electrical conductivity of the composition s = 0.98 was significantly higher than those of the other two materials at temperatures below 400°C. The chemical diffusion coefficient, DChem, and the apparent surface exchange coefficient, kEx, were measured using electrical conductivity relaxation. The compositions s = 1.02 and s = 0.98 had within the uncertainty the same surface exchange coefficient. kEx was approximately 3 times larger for the composition s = 0.98. It is speculated that the Co-rich material has a surface layer richer in cobalt, which improves the electrochemical activity. DChem, was the same for the compositions s = 0.98 and s = 1.00, whereas it was significantly lower for the s = 1.02 material by approximately 25%. The activation energy for the vacancy diffusion coefficient, DV, was calculated to 75.2 kJ mol-1 for the s = 1.02 composition. Oxygen permeation measurements were carried out on the s = 1.02 composition using an oxygen-pump. The results were in excellent agreement with fluxes calculated from the measured DChem and kEx values using the Wagner equation combined with surface exchange reactions

Fermi Potential across Working Solid Oxide Cells with Zirconia or Ceria Electrolytes

    No full text
A solid electrolyte will always possess a finite electronic conductivity, in particular electrolytes like doped ceria that easily get reduced and become mixed ionic and electronic conductors. This given rise too high leak currents through the solid oxide cell (SOC). Especially, problems have been observed for ceria based electrolytes, but also in case of solid oxide electrolyser cells (SOEC) with yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) big electronic leak currents have been observed for very high overvoltages on one or both electrodes. Furthermore, it is important to realize that the potential gradient driving the O2-ions is not the Fermi potential, which is the potential of the electrons, but the Galvani potential (or inner potential) (1). The concepts of potentials describing the electrical situation of a solid electrolyte is shown i Fig. 1, and an example of the Fermi potential (π) and Galvani potential (φ) profiles are shown in Fig. 2. The Fermi potential will be affected directly by the Galvani potential, whereas the Galvani potential need not necessarily be affected by the Fermi potential because the concentration of “free” electrons may be very low. The paper gives illustrative examples at various temperatures and operation conditions. Furthermore, the situation within cells based on gadolinia doped ceria (CGO) and on YSZ electrolytes are compared. Finally, it is discussed how the Fermi potential and electron conductivity will be affected by the various parameters including operation conditions. Reference [1] T. Jacobsen and M. Spatio-temporal evolution of the West African monsoon during the last deglaciation

    No full text
On the basis of a multi-proxy data set from the Gulf of Guinea (eastern equatorial Atlantic) we reconstruct the spatio-temporal evolution of the West African monsoon (WAM) and present evidence for a decoupling between latitudinal shifts of the rain belt and WAM intensification. The onset of deglacial monsoon invigoration at ∼16,600 years before present lagged northward migration of a weak rainfall zone by ∼2800 years. Conversely, during the Younger Dryas (YD) time interval, WAM precipitation was severely reduced but we find no evidence for a large-scale retreat of the rainfall front. This observation is not in agreement with the hypothesis of a large-scale shift of the intertropical convergence zone south of the tropical WAM region during the YD. Our results can be better reconciled with the newly emerging concept of a strong influence of Tropical Easterly and African Easterly Jets on modern WAM

DOX:ONLINE - Et speciale om interaktive dokumentarfilm

Never before has reality been given so much (positive) attention as the case is today – we simply can’t get enough of it! Both on the Internet and TV we are bombarded with up-to-the-minute news, reality shows in all shades, and documentaries are shown in prime time on national television. Even cinemas report full house, when the reality is on the program. The reality has become hot – and this has obtained renewed inclination to explore it! The digital media and in particularly World Wide Web has opened up for completely new ways to explore and represent reality, and with interactive media it is now possible for the audience to interact with what is presented to them. The audience has therefore moved from being a passive spectator to an active user, because of the opportunity to participate in the shaping of the work and thereby influence the whole expression. These kinds of films are under one lump called interactive films, and the focus for this thesis is to explore which opportunities this style bring to the documentary genre and its attempt to describe and explore reality. My main focus will be on the Danish interactive (WEB) documentary Forestillinger (2003) and the TV Documentary Glistrup (2001), which both are based on the same shootings. The thesis treats the following questions: As jumping-off point in the TV documentary Glistrup and the interactive WEB documentary Forestillinger I will: • explain how the interactive web documentary differentiates from the traditional TV documentary, • and analyse how Glistrup is portraited in the two works Finally I will in the light of my analysis, discuss: • how interactivity and the narrative style influence the representation of reality. To answer these questions I will outline the historical background of documentary (chapter 2) to create a broader understanding of the genre. In this chapter I will among others introduce Dziga Vertov and Sergei Eisenstein, which theories I will use throughout the thesis. Thereafter I will take a closer look at the world we live in today (chapter 3) and try to describe and define how this influence the way we creates film today. For this purpose, I will use theorists as Marshall McLuhan, who already in the 1960’ gave his view on how the digital media would influence our perception of reality. I will also introduce Jay David Bolter and Richard Grusins terminology immediacy and hypermediacy to describe the users experience in their meeting with different media. Next, I will take a closer look on how you from an analytical point of view can describe a film, which doesn’t have a fixed starting point, centre or ending (chapter 4). To do this, I use Espen Aarseths theory on cybertexts, as described in Cybertext; Perspective on Ergodic Litterature (1997) and Anna Gunders theory on omnidiscourse and omnistory in what she describe as a multisequential hyperwork. She argues in the book Hyperworks; On Digital Literature and Computer Games (2004) that the traditional narratological dichotomy between story and discourse is insufficient in analyses of multisequential hyperworks. Furthermore, I will in this chapter also define the interactive film and in this occasion include other examples of interactive films, e.g. Michael Noer’s Doxwise (2008) and Diego Araujo og Hanne-Lovise Skartveits Take the F-train (2006). Ahead of the analysis, I have made a short presentation on the two films Glistrup and Forestillinger to illustrate the differences (chapter 5). In the analysis (chapter 6), I use all the theories I have lined up throughout the thesis and among other things explain how Forestillinger reflects the way we understand reality today, and how Eisensteins theory about montage achieve renewed meaning in interactive films as Forestillinger. In the discussion (chapter 7), I will use the conclusions from the analysis to discuss how interactivity and the narrative style influence the representation of reality today. In this chapter, I will also describe how the interactive documentary is part of a new conception of art, but also how it is possible to interpret a piece as Forestillinger into a postmodern context.Never before has reality been given so much (positive) attention as the case is today – we simply can’t get enough of it!
