A Framework for Control and Co-Simulation in Distribution Networks Applied to Electric Vehicle Charging with Vehicle-Originating-Signals
The increasing share of renewable energy sources and distributed energy generation (DER) in the energy mix brings a number of challenges to the power system, particularly to the distribution network (DN). New control methods and algorithms are being studied to address these challenges, but the effects of such algorithms on actual DNs are often difficult to validate. Co-simulation, considering the advanced state of existing DN simulation tools, is a potential solution but usually requires some degree of expertise. In this work, we introduce a framework tor implementing control algorithms tor DNs assisted by co-simulation. This framework uses the commercial simulator PowerFactory but does not require a high tool-specific expertise and can be integrated into other simulation tools. Then we apply this framework to an electric vehicle charging use case and show the results and benefits. Furthermore we extend an existing charging control algorithm to support local voltage control
Effiziente inhaltsbasierte Publish/Subscribe Routing- und Boolesche Expressions-Matching-Algorithmen
Event routing and Boolean expression matching are two key functions for content-based publish subscribe systems. Moreover, Boolean expression matching plays an important role in a growing number of other applications, such as online advertising, online news dissemination and workflow management. However, the existing routing and Boolean expression matching solutions present limitations on flexibility, performance, expressiveness and applicability. To overcome these limitations, we propose new efficient content-based publish subscribe routing and Boolean expression matching algorithms.

In this work, we use distributed optimization to address two key challenges in Electric Vehicle (EV) charging control. First, we develop a novel scalable distributed optimization framework for EV aggregators to schedule the charging of large number of EVs and provide system services. Second, we propose a novel distributed anytime algorithm for real-time EV charging congestion control to allow the safe integration of EVs into the current distribution infrastructure.
This work proposes, develops, and evaluates a fine-grained high-frequency data acquisition (DAQ) solution to accurately detect individual appliances from the aggregate load, even when several appliances are operating simultaneously. As most disaggregation inaccuracies stem from DAQ, we have developed a circuit-level electric appliance radar to simultaneously gather energy data at up to 250 kHz from six circuits. Similarly, a novel event detection algorithm using the Hilbert-Huang transform is proposed to accurately detect low power appliance events from an office.
Electric vehicles (EVs) could contribute towards the reduction of CO2 emissions and the integration of renewable energies. To do so, efficient and applicable control mechanisms need to be in place and a critical mass of EVs needs to be available. The proposed Vehicle-Originating-Signals approach controls the charging behavior of EVs for supporting the power grid. The second approach allows EVs to plan charging stops on a highway while minimizing travel time and therefore addresses some of the negative effects of limited range and long charging times of EVs.Elektrofahrzeuge (EF) können zur Reduzierung der CO2-Emission und zur Integration erneuerbarer Energien beitragen.
Verteilte Workflow Koordination in Publish/Subscribe Umgebungen
Flexibility, data distribution, and the scale of business processes impose challenges for Workflow Management Systems (WFMS). Thus, we develop a distributed formulation and corresponding geo-scale WFMS for data-centric workflows based on the publish/subscribe (pub/sub) paradigm; we present two mappings of data-centric workflows into Workflow Units, which communicate over pub/sub, verify their correctness, and evaluate their performance. We also propose an approach for multi-user transactions in pub/sub to enable horizontal scaling of WFMSs.Flexibilität, Datenverteilung, und die Umfänge von Geschäftsprozesse stellen Herausforderungen für Workflow Management Systeme (WFMS) dar.
Compression in publish/subscribe systems
Constraint bandwidth imposes a challenge to publish/subscribe systems (pub/sub). Pub/Sub is often used by interactive mobile applications to communicate with system back-ends. State-of-the art compression techniques such as GZip can be universally employed to reduce bandwidth. We propose dictionary-based compression and online self-learning dictionary maintenance algorithms to go well beyond the bandwidth reductions achieved with the state-of-the art.

Electrical energy data play a vital role in Smart Grids and Smart Homes to understand consumption characteristics. High-frequency voltage and current data contain valuable information used in power disaggregation and appliance identification tasks. We develop methodologies for hard- and software architectures for data acquisition, collection, and compression of long-term continuous measurements with a distributed fleet of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. We evaluate the design with the newly introduced Building-Level Office eNvironment Dataset (BLOND).Elektrische Energiedaten sind eine wichtige Datenquelle in Smart Grids und Smart Homes, für das Verständnis von Verbrauchsprofilen. Management of Uncertainties in Publish/Subscribe System
In the publish/subscribe paradigm, information providers disseminate publications to all consumers who have expressed interest by registering
subscriptions. This paradigm has found wide-spread applications, ranging from selective information dissemination to network management. However, all existing publish/subscribe systems cannot capture uncertainty inherent to the information in either subscriptions or publications.
In many situations the large number of data sources exhibit various kinds of uncertainties. Examples of imprecision include: exact knowledge to either specify subscriptions or publications is not available; the match between a subscription and a publication with uncertain data is
approximate; the constraints used to define a match is not only content based, but also take the semantic information into consideration. All these kinds of uncertainties have not received much attention in the context of publish/subscribe systems.
In this thesis, we propose new publish/subscribe models to express
uncertainties and semantics in publications and subscriptions, along with the matching semantics for each model. We also develop
efficient algorithms to perform filtering for our models so that it can be applied to process the rapidly increasing information on the Internet. A thorough experimental evaluation is presented to demonstrate that the proposed systems can offer scalability to large number of subscribers and high publishing rates.Ph
