The Liturgical Work of archbishop Cranmer
In the introduction to what was for long the standard work upon the Prayer Book, Charles Wheatly's Rational Illustration of the Book of Common Prayer, the learned and industrious author refers to archbishop Cranmer as ‘the chief promoter of our excellent Reformation’, who ‘had a principal hand, not only in compiling the Liturgy, but in all the steps made towards it’. A commemoration of Cranmer which omitted to recall his liturgical projects and achievements, and to notice the more striking of their features, would be incomplete. Of itself, the liturgical work ascribed to him is significant enough to vindicate his right to be remembered, and to insure respect for his name.</jats:p
"An Empirical Analysis of Gender Bias in Education Spending in Paraguay"
Gender affects household spending in two areas that have been widely studied in the literature. One strand documents that greater female bargaining power within households results in a variety of shifts in household production and consumption. An important source of intrahousehold bargaining power is ownership of assets, especially land. Another strand examines gender bias in spending on children. This paper addresses both strands simultaneously. In it, differences in spending on education are examined empirically, at both the household and the individual level. Results are mixed, though the balance of evidence weighs toward pro-male bias in spending on education at the household level. Results also indicate that the relationship between asset ownership and female bargaining power within the household is contingent on the type of asset.
Samuel Plantz, President, 1894-1924
About Samuel Plantz (1859-1924)
Lawrence\u27s seventh president, like his predecessors, was a Methodist minister. He was also a Lawrence alumnus, class of 1880. Born in 1859 in New York, he grew up in Emerald Green, Wisconsin. After Lawrence, he received his Bachelor of Sacred Theology and the Ph.D. from the Theological School of Boston University.
Plantz was president of Lawrence from 1894 to his death in 1924. During his tenure, the number of students increased tenfold and seven new buildings were built, including the Chapel, the Carnegie Library, and the Conservatory of Music. Plantz Hall, a student residence, is named for him.

How are falls and fear of falling associated with objectively measured physical activity in a cohort of community-dwelling older men?
Falls affect approximately one third of community-dwelling older adults each year and have serious health and social consequences. Fear of falling (FOF) (lack of confidence in maintaining balance during normal activities) affects many older adults, irrespective of whether they have actually experienced falls. Both falls and fear of falls may result in restrictions of physical activity, which in turn have health consequences. To date the relation between (i) falls and (ii) fear of falling with physical activity have not been investigated using objectively measured activity data which permits examination of different intensities of activity and sedentary behaviour
Effective lifetime measurements in the B-s(0) -> K+K-, B-0 -> K+pi(-) and B-s(0) -> pi K-+(-) decays
Measurements of the effective lifetimes in the View the MathML source, B0→K+π− and View the MathML source decays are presented using 1.0 fb−1 of pp collision data collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV by the LHCb experiment. The analysis uses a data-driven approach to correct for the decay time acceptance.
This is the most precise determination to date of the effective lifetime in the View the MathML source decay and provides constraints on contributions from physics beyond the Standard Model to the View the MathML source mixing phase and the width difference ΔΓs
The theory of eucharistic presence in the early Caroline divines, examined in its European theological setting
The question of Christ's presence in the eucharist was an issue
which caused great controversy in the Reformation period, and which
continued to evoke dispute during the seventeenth century. Various
interpretations of the Caroline divines' teaching on the eucharistic
presence have been offered, but often they seem either to indicate the
theological position of the writer rather than that of the theologians
considered, or to ignore the broader context of eucharistic doctrine.
The purpose of this study, therefore, was 1. to investigate the
theology of eucharistic presence in the thinking of several seventeenth-century
Anglican divines, and 2. to examine their teaching in relation
to the sixteenth-century Anglican heritage and the various continental
sacramental doctrines, Reformed, Lutheran, Roman Catholic and Eastern
Orthodox.
To accomplish this goal, eight theologians were chosen for examination:
Adrianus Saravia, Lancelot Andrewes, John Cosin, Richard
Montague, William Forbes, William Laud, Jeremy Taylor and Herbert
Thorndike. When available, nineteenth-century editions of their works
were used; otherwise, seventeenth-century texts were employed.
Similarly, modern editions of Roman, Orthodox, Lutheran and Reformed
writings were utilized when possible. Thy examination of eucharistic
teaching included seven major points: 1. the sacrament as mystery,
2. eucharistic change, 3. the relationship between Christ's body and
the bread, 4. eucharistic communion, 5. the nature of Christ's body in
the sacrament, 6. consecration, and 7. adoration in the eucharist.
This study has shown that there was great diversity in the
thinking of the Caroline divines (although they did not treat the
subject of eucharistic presence with equal detail or depth); no
unified understanding of sacramental presence was expressed. Reformed
ideas inherited from the previous century remained strong, but new
tendencies toward other understandings of the eucharist can be
discerned. The period, therefore, can be seen to represent a new
stage in the history of Anglican eucharistic doctrine

Books with manuscript': the case of Thomas Cranmer's library
THE library of Thomas Cranmer (1489-1556), though now widely dispersed, is a significant component of one of the main foundation collections of the present British Library - the Old Royal Library. Despite some losses through War damage and the duplicate sales of 1769 to 1819 there are still some 334 printed books and fifty-one manuscripts remaining there with evidence of Cranmer provenance, and these represent considerably over half the books so far traced from his personal library confiscated by the Marian authorities in 1553. Cranmer's earliest biographers, Ralph Morice and the unknown author of 'The lyfe and death of Thomas Cranmer' (BL, Harleian MS. 417) witness to his long hours of study while a don at Cambridge ('seldom...without pen in hand')" and his habit of annotating books in his library; and this practice he apparently continued even as archbishop when he was frequently called upon by the king to deliver his opinion on some 'weighty matter in controversy' with no more than a night to collect his thoughts and the 'authorities' to support them. How far is this claim about Cranmer as an annotator actually supported from the evidence of his books that survive in the present British Library
