Interview with Joseph R. Reaves
Joseph Reaves, a life-long resident of Wilmington, North Carolina attended the states first Reserve Officers' Training Program (ROTC) at New Hanover High School. Prior to World War II he attended the Civilian Pilot Training Program in Wilmington. Reaves joined the US Navy in the early summer of 1942 and took his preflight training at UNC-Chapel Hill. Reaves was stationed at Naval Air Station, Memphis, Tennessee for primary flight training and at Pensacola, Florida for basic instrument and advance flight training. He took advanced instrument training at the Naval Air Station, Atlanta, Georgia. He flew Beach crafts and R5D's while serving in the Pacific Theater. Reaves was discharged in March of 1946 but later flew military aircraft during the Korean War
