Shen-Qi-Jie-Yu-Fang has antidepressant effects in a rodent model of postpartum depression by regulating the immune organs and subsets of T lymphocytes

Previously, we have elucidated the effects of SJ Fang on hormone receptors and monoamine neurotransmitters involved in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal and hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axes in PPD rats. However, the immune-modulating effects of SJ Fang in PPD are still unknown. In this study, we explored the effects of SJ Fang on the immune organs and subsets of T lymphocytes in PPD rats.Methods: PPD was created in Sprague-Dawley rats by inducing hormone-simulated pregnancy followed by hormone withdrawal. After hormone withdrawal, the PPD rats were then treated with fluoxetine at 1, 2, and 4 weeks, and the SJ Fang rats were also treated at 1, 2, and 4 weeks. Depressive behavior in the rats was evaluated by the forced swim test, sucrose consumption test, and open field test. The thymus index and spleen index were calculated. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to identify pathological features in the thymus and spleen. CD3, CD4, and CD8 lymphocyte subsets were analyzed by flow cytometry.Results: Both fluoxetine and SJ Fang increased immobility time, sucrose consumption, an horizontal and vertical movements. After 4 weeks of treatment with fluoxetine or SJ Fang, the thymus index and spleen index were significantly higher than at baseline, and the morphology of the thymus and spleen were returning to normal. Two weeks after hormone withdrawal, subsets of T lymphocytes indicated a shift from immune activation to immune suppression, which was reversed by 4 weeks of treatment with fluoxetine or SJ Fang.Conclusion: It is suggested that T-cell mediate immune responses which may play a role in the etiopathology of postpartum depression. Chinese Herbal Complex "Bu Shen Jie Du Fang' (BSJDF) Modulated Autophagy in an MPP+-Induced Cell Model of Parkinson's Disease
Autophagy plays an important role in the development of Parkinson disease (PD). Previous studies showed that autophagy could protect cells from -synuclein toxicity and promote functional coupling of mitochondria. But it is still a question whether modulating autophagy can be used to treat PD. In traditional Chinese medicine, a specific Chinese herbal complex called Bu Shen Jie Du Fang (BSJDF) has a long history of treating motor impairments similar to Parkinson disease, while its mechanism is still unclear. As a pilot study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and its mechanism of Bu Shen Jie Du Fang in an MPP+-induced cell model of Parkinson's disease. And the phase contrast microscope (PCM) revealed that the BSJDF group had the greatest surviving cell counts compared with all other treated cell groups except the normal group. And Cell Counting Kit 8 (CCK8) assays showed a similar result. In BSJDF group, 3.7 x10(7) cells/dish was identified by hemocytometer counts, which was significantly higher than other groups except the normal cells (p<0.05). In the BSJDF group, autophagy can be observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Protein expression of Atg12 and LC3 in the BSJDF group was upregulated compared to the PD model group (p<0.05). Atg12 mRNA expression was also upregulated in the BSJDF group (p<0.05). In conclusion, our study indicated that the therapeutic mechanisms of BSJDF may be mediated by stimulating autophagy, and modulating autophagy can be used to treat PD
Shen Qinhan "Chun qiu Zuo shi zhuan bu zhu" "yi li jie jing" yan jiu
M.Phil.Chunqiu Zuoshizhuan Buzhu, written by Shen Qinhan (1775-1832) in Daoguang Period of Qing Dynasty, is a significant piece of work about the ritual elements recorded in Zuozhuan. The reason of Shen Qinhan to finish the writing is to promote the value of ritual elements of Zuozhuan as he attached importance to the ritual elements in the classics. People including Li Ciming, Zhang Suqing and Jin Yongjian said Shen’s writing focus on the ritual elements, which proved the high value of Chunqiu Zuoshizhuan Buzhu in explaining the ritual elements of Zuozhuan. This research focuses on Shen Qinhan and his writing.This study sets out to analyze Chunqiu Zuoshizhuan Buzhu from three perspectives. The first part introduces the life profile and the educational background of Shen Qinhan and the development of Confucianism in between early and mid-Qing, in order to prove that the academic environment encouraged him to write Chunqiu Zuoshizhuan Buzhu. The second part focuses on the theoretical basis of Shen as he first emphasizes the historical nature of Zuozhuan, which means his research is based on reliable historical data. The final part analyzes the statements of Shen after introducing he has the same position with Zheng Xuan (127-200) on the study of ritual elements. According to the adoption of Shen’s statements of other scholars after Shen, such as Liu Wenqi and Yang Bojun, his achievement was not devoted to some misunderstanding. Instead, he has a remarkable contribution in the study of Zuozhuan.沈欽韓(1775-1832),字文起,號小宛,江蘇吳縣人。道光年間,沈欽韓撰寫《春秋左氏傳補注》十二卷,是書旨在考證《左傳》禮制,發明《左傳》禮意。清代《左傳》研究著述甚多,《補注》最大特色點在於「尚禮」的注經方法,以及「宗鄭」的禮學立場。清人李慈銘嘗謂是書「意主發明《左氏》禮學」,近人張素卿、金永健亦謂《補注》解經「以禮為宗」,益見《補注》解說《左傳》禮制的價值。本文即以《春秋左氏傳補注》「以禮解經」的特點為研究重心。本文分為三個部分:第一部分介紹沈欽韓的生平及著述,梳理沈欽韓的交遊經歷和學術進程;同時交代明末清初以至清代中葉的儒學發展,論證清代中葉禮學復興的學術潮流促使沈欽韓撰寫《補注》。第二部分分析沈欽韓《春秋左氏傳補注》「以禮解經」的理論依據,說明沈欽韓極力還原《左傳》的史傳本質,旨在達到「徵實崇禮」的目的;同時分析《補注》解說《左傳》禮制的方法和成果。第三部分爬梳《補注》全書禮說,論證沈欽韓「宗鄭」的禮說立場,同時透過其他學者對《補注》的資取,揭示《補注》的學術價值。吳略.Thesis M.Phil.
