IFLA study on functional requirements of bibliographic records and its significance for the national bibliographic services and cataloguers.
The introduction to the article gives an account of the international co-operation in the sphere of cataloguing since 1954. At present one of the most important problems is the price of the cataloguing process. The creation of a full bibliographic record by the national bibliographic services is an expensive activity. In this article, the discussion with M. G. Vochryševa about the bibliographical method and its co-scientific status is investigated. The author thinks that the given arguments are weak and erroneous. The creation of special scientific bibliographical methods is the task of the future. The perspectives for this are opened by the developing general theory of bibliography.

The theory of bibliography should be more strictly differentiated from other kinds of scientific information. The author considers the theory of bibliography to be the highest level of scientific information. O. Korshunov\u27s general theory of bibliography meets this requirement. Printed bibliographic information resources in Lithuania in 2001–2005.
Recently, because of the progress in digital bibliographic information resources and bibliographic databases and for other reasons, many changes have appeared in the field of the system of bibliographic information. To identify the new trends of this field is only possible through continuous monitoring. The object of this article is the bibliography of printed publications of various kinds and types, bibliographic index lists and reviews for the period 2001–2005. Changes of periodicals and retrospective bibliography publications are analysed in the article. Results of this analysis may be useful not only for bibliography researchers and teachers of bibliographic disciplines, but also for managers of the bibliographic process, promoters of bibliographic recommendations and bibliographers themselves
The role of standardization in the integration process of memory institutions.
The object of the research is standardization activities of memory institutions as a form of their integration. The aim of the research is to analyze the role of standardization in the integration process of memory institutions. Since the perspectives for the joint action by Lithuanian memory institutions is investigated for the first time, cultural and standardized integration is presented as a conceptual basis associated with memory institutions‘ participation in standardization work finding its expression within the creation of the virtual information system of the cultural heritage. The dissertation consists of the preface, three parts, conclusions, the list of bibliographic references and supplements. The text includes 27 charts and 26 tables. The first part of the dissertation covers methods for integration of memory institutions, the need for standards in the creation process of a single European information system of the cultural heritage as well as the premise for the standardized integration of Lithuanian memory institutions and the experience of such integration. In the second part of the dissertation the focus is on creation of the model for the structure of standardization activity and comprehensive analysis of standardization activity in the information and documentation area. The third part of the dissertation presents the analysis of standardization activities by the Technical Committee on a national level in the information and documentation field as well as methodological grounding, the process and outcome of the empirical research. Based on the standardization activity model, the overview of memory institutions’ standardized integration makes it possible to conclude that the standardization activity is a promising form for the partnership of memory institutions and has a consolidating impact on Lithuanian memory institutions
Books in the polish language publishing in lithuania after independence restoration and its perspectives.
Books in the Polish language publishing in Lithuania after Independence Restoration – is a separate research branch, forming only a part of Lithuanian publishing process; however, it is unseperable from the country political, economical and social events. Publishing reflects country development, cultural understanding of community. Therefore, publishing acquaints with current problems and achievements of the national minorities. In a globalizing world national mentality preserving becomes more and more challenging. For this reason, the discussion about national minority situation and its contribution into national majority is essential. Publishing in the period after Independence Restoration has not been fully analysed yet whereas forming multinationalism fosters to pay attention not only to majority, but also to minority functioning in the society. The subject of this work – books in the Polish language published in Lithuania in the period of 1991–2009. The aim of this work – to analyse Polish books publishing situation and tendencies in Lithuania in the period of 1991–2009 as well as its future perspectives. The following tasks have been raised in order to achieve the aim: to review Polish national minority situation in Lithuania; to analyse the publishing development of Polish books in a general publishing context; to determine Polish books publishers and the tendency of their work; to analyse Polish books range of topicality; to analyse books from the tipological point of view; to analyse Polish books publishing present situation and its future perspectives, based on the publishers experience; to analyse the need for Polish books publishing and perspectives with a reference to Polish youth opinion. In order to achieve the goals analysis of articles, scientific literature, the analysis of statistical -bibliographical data were conducted. The methods applied: the analysis of scientific literature; statistical data analysis; bibliographic method; half-structured qualitative analysis-interview with experts; quantitative analysis-questionnaire. Books in the Polish language publishing formed in the first years after gaining the independence and has not changed significantly up to 2009. The extent of circulation fluctuates around 60 publications a year. The circulation does not usually exceed 100000 (one hundred thousand). Coursebooks and fiction by local authors(vilniukai) is dominating. The main publishing centre is coursebooks publishing “Šviesa“ whereas fiction and leisure publications cradle is „Magazyn Wilenski“ editorial office. From the local Polish books publishers point of view, publishing process is constantly initiating despite the financial difficulties which are being handled with a help of support funds, private sponsors, authors contribution and publishers capital. There are only several people involved in the publishing process in order to save money for future investments. Prose, poetry circulation is restricted to thousand publications in order to satisfy export and tourists needs. Local Pole, Lithuanian intellectual, guest from Poland can purchase Polish books in the bookshop sections, editorial offices, via post. The repertoire is not sufficient; books on Polish integration into Lithuanian community are not available; however, there is a wide range of books published in Poland. According to the opinion of local publishers as well as Bialystok university students, Polish books publishing has its niche and will find it among the local Poles despite the political disagreements , economic recession or unpopularity. Economic capability will allow to purchase quality publications and raising education level will form the demand for Polish, Lithuanian, foreign authors fiction
