Thanks McCrackens for telegram of sympathy following the passing of Gen. Eisenhower.Gettysburg, Pennsylvania April 17, 1969 Dear Viv and Mac: Thank you for your telegram of sympathy in my great loss. The burden of grief has been lessened by the kind thoughts of so many of our friends and the knowledge that the entire country is sharing my sadness. The above is really true although it is almost a set letter. Jessie Wilson has called me and she is back in Michigan. Will stay here at farm for a while. Think Ike would like that then off about middle of May for Belgium with John. Dr. and Mrs. J. Holt McCracken 371 Chino Drive Palm Springs, California 9226

Thanks McCrackens for birthday card and clipping. Discusses holiday plans and other upcoming engagements in Washington, Gettysburg, and Augusta.Gettysburg, Pennsylvania November 11, 1969 Dear Mac and Viv: Thank you for the sweet birthday car and the enclosed clipping about art in which they mention Ike. I plan to spend the holidays here so the pears would be marvelous to have. As Susan, Julie and David are flying to Brussels to be with John and Barbara for Christmas I will plan on spending the holidays with my sister in Washington. I will keep running and have just returned from three days in Washington and will return for a birthday luncheon a friend of mine is giving on the fourteenth. After that I will go to Maryland to a friend’s estate for the rest of the weekend. It will be a good time to get out of Washington. My home base will be the farm until after the holidays when I plan to go to Augusta and live in “Mamie’s Cabin” for a couple of months. My love to you both. Sent from Walter Reed Hospital, letter thanks the McCrackens for their correspondence. Talks of Ike's progress and their uncertain Christmas holiday plans.Additional note at bottom of letter - "Was sorry to hear of Rini - Will write Meredith - M"MAMIE DOUD EISENHOWER Walter Reed Hospital Washington, D. C. December 14, 1966 Dear Viv and Mac; Thank you so much for your cheerful and newsy letter. It is always fun to hear from you. My Beau has been walking a bit today and sitting up too. All the wonderful messages from our friends -- such as the two of you -- have been heartwarming to us. At the moment our Christmas plans and schedule for arrival in California are uncertain. Now my only concern is to get Ike strong and well again. How nice that you will have an early "Christmas" with your lovely family. It is beginning to look a lot like the holiday season here as we had four inches of snow yesterday. However, knowing Washington the flowers may be in bloom by the twenty-fifth. Martha wrote me a long lettei a few days ago and she mentioned that she had talked with you. With my warm best wishes for all the joys of this blessed season, / Dr. and Mrs. J. Thanks the McCrackens for the cucumbers from Portuguese Bend and talks about their summer travels. Mentions that Ike will be in Iowa for the memorial service for President Hoover.MAMIE DOUD EISENHOWER Gettysburg, Pennsylvania August 9, 1965 Dear Mac and Viv: Thank you so much for the very special cucumbers straight from the Portuguese Bend vine. Aside from their origin they were quite unique in size! They have just arrived in our kitchen and we are anxious to try them. We have been quite busy this summer, having had several weeks in the northern woods of Wisconsin where Ike enjoyed some good bass fishing; this past week-end in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, where on Saturday we attended the Monmouth Races; and tomorrow Ike will be in Iowa attending the mem¬ orial service for President Hoover. The family is fine -- two girls at camp; Anne taking a sum¬ mer course in art and Spanish; David living with a Mexican family to improve his Spanish. John and Barbara have been in New York for a couple of days. So you see our family are like their Grandmother and Grandfather -- always on the road. Ike joins me in sending you both affectionate greetings. ^/ ^f^^C Mr. and Mrs. J. Holt McCracken 4100 Maritime Road Portuguese Bend Californi
