Textile industry in Bangladesh and challenges of growth
The importance of the textile industry in the economy of Bangladesh is very high. The garments manufacturing sector earned $19 billion in the year to June 2012, one of the impoverished nation's biggest industries. Currently this industry is facing great challenges in its growth rate. The major reasons for these challenges can be the global recession, unfavorable trade policies, internal security concerns, the high cost of production due to increase in the energy costs, different safety issues specially fire, etc. Depreciation of Bangladeshi Taka that significantly raised the cost of imported inputs, rise in inflation rate, and high cost of financing has also effected seriously the growth in the textile industry. As a result neither the buyers are able to visit frequently Bangladesh nor are the exporters able to travel abroad for effectively marketing their products. With an in-depth investigation it was found that the Bangladesh textile industry can be brought on top winning track if government and others individuals takes serious actions in removing or normalizing the above mentioned hurdles. Additionally, the government should provide subsidy to the textile industry, minimize the internal dispute among the exporters, withdraw the withholding and sales taxes etc. Purchasing new machinery or enhancing the quality of the existing machinery and introducing new technology can also be very useful in increasing the research and development (R and D) related activities that in the modern era are very important for increasing the industrial growth of a country
Effects of reductive stripping of reactive dyes on the quality of cotton fabric
Some common problems of textile dyeing industries include uneven or faulty dyeing and formation of color patches on the fabric surface during dyeing and downstream processing of textiles materials. Such problems in the finished quality of fabric are generally tackled through a chemical stripping process which is a common practice in dyeing industries for the deep shade batches. However, reactive dyes cannot be stripped satisfactorily from cellulosic materials due to the formation of co-valent bonds between dye and fiber. This research was undertaken using 2.5% and 5% bi-hetero reactive dyes on pretreated cotton fabric and dye stripping was carried out in alkali reductive stripping process. The aim of the work was to investigate the effects of dye stripping on the quality of cotton fabric. Strength loss, weight loss, pilling resistance and absorbency of stripped fabric were calculated. Though with the increase of concentration of stripping chemicals and temperature, stripping percentages were improved; processing damage to the fabric such as losses in strength, weight and pilling resistance ratings was found. In contrast, increased fabric absorbency was found due to stripping. This is explained that during stripping, alkaline solution as an intracrystalline swelling agent is effective in loosening the crystalline region of cotton in addition to the amorphous region. Stripping agent can also attack such crystalline region. As a result, cotton fiber can release maximum number of hydroxyl groups which previously formed covalent bonds. This is the reason behind the stripped fabric having more water absorbency

For this cross-sectional study, we extracted relevant information for analysis from a nationwide representative secondary dataset, Bangladesh Demography and Health Survey 2014 for binary logistic regression. Besides, we conducted meta-analysis utilizing the recently accessible datasets (accessed in July 2019) from MEASURE DHS (Monitoring and evaluating to Assess and Use Result, Demographic and Health Survey) (www.measuredhs.com). We adopted the recent available DHS data for the other 20 developing countries [25]. Which are Afghanistan (2015), Angola (2015-16), Benin (2017-18), Chad (2014-15), Cambodia (2014), Ethiopia (2016), Ghana (2014), Guinea (2018), India (2015-16), Indonesia (2017), Kenya (2014), Lesotho (2014), Myanmar (2015-16), Nepal (2016), Nigeria (2018), Pakistan (2017-18), Sierra Leone (2013), Timor-Leste (2016), Zambia (2013-14), Zimbabwe (2015)
Error reporting the test statistics and significance levels, and arguable model building
Dear Sir,With academic and professional interests, we read the article by Ekelund et al. (1). Conducted on 443 consecutive patients with psoriasis in Sweden, this paper examined the relationship between measures of disease severity (e.g., as measured by Dermatology Life Quality Index) and associated costs in patients with plaque psoriasis.The authors used linear regression model to examine the relationship between the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI; used as continuous variable; variable name: dlqi_tot), psoriatic arthritis (dummy variable name: dum_psor) and being on systemic treatment (dummy variable name: systemic) in relation to total cost (Table III). All of these three explanatory variables were shown to be statistically signicant, as described by the authors, and depicted by the p-values in the reduced model (Table III).However, the t-values associated with the explanatory variables are too small to reach statistical signicance. It is not clear from the model what the effective sample size was (which might be attributed to missing values etc.), hence the degrees of freedom (DF) could not be denitely identied. However, as the total initial sample size was 443, we may safely assume that the maximum DF would be 439 [DF = n–(p+1); where n = effective sample size, and p = number of predictors (3 in this case) in the model] (2
