Combined TOA/DOA for location estimation in MIMO system
This paper proposes on the development of a combined location and positioning (L&P) system by combining range measurements and angle measurements for a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system. The proposed combined technique called as hybrid multiple linear lines of position (HMLLOP) algorithm extends the fundamental idea of using the multiple linear lines of position (MLLOP) scheme when extra information in the form of direction of arrival (DOA) measurements at a minimum of three base stations (BSs) is available. The technique explores the use of multiple lines of position (LOP) instead of circular LOP and determines new lower and upper bounds of DOA according to the measurements obtained from an MLLOP scheme which aims to minimize the DOA error caused by non-line of sight (NLOS) propagation. Simulation results have been provided that show that the proposed combined schemes outperform the range-only algorithm in terms of estimated location accuracy. It has been shown that time of arrival (TOA)-based location can be employed as a baseline location estimation technique, with additional DOA measurements being used to further improve accuracy
Analysis of WiMAX positioning using received- signal-strength method
This paper presents an analysis of WiMAX positioning by using received-signal-strength (RSS) method. A simulator was developed using MATLAB to demonstrate the ability of RSS method for WiMAX positioning. With this simulator, the user can specify their own data or parameters in analyzing and obtaining the target object location. In this study, the analysis was done in three different scenarios that simulate various conditions for WiMAX positioning. Result shows that channel or propagation models are crucial part in the process of analyzing the communication system where it will affect the performance of positioning detection. Selection of perfect model that resemble the real environment will led to better wireless positioning system. By the performance evaluation, the user can plan better simulation system and can create more accurate algorithms for radio positioning

Effects of Carbonate Distribution Inhomogeneity on the Improvement Level of Bio-cemented Sands: A DEM Study
Microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) involves bacteria to drive calcite precipitation and naturally cement soils, thereby improving soils performance. Experimental studies have shown that bio-cemented specimen can suffer from severe spatial inhomogeneity of the calcite content, leading to large uncertainty in treatment efficiency prediction. To evaluate the effect of inhomogeneity on the mechanical behaviour of bio-cemented soils, the discrete element method (DEM) is used to model bio-cemented samples with a single carbonate distribution pattern (i.e. either bridging or contact cementing) but different characteristics of inhomogeneity. Both drained triaxial compression and triaxial extension simulations are carried out to evaluate the impact of inhomogeneity along different loading paths. The results indicate that inhomogeneity has different effects on bio-cemented samples depending on the carbonate distribution patterns and the loading path. Specifically, the shear strength in compression of samples exhibiting bridging cementation is largely affected by inhomogeneity, while the effect on shear strength in extension is negligible. All authors have read and agreed to the published version of the manuscript.Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interfaces (RPNIs) encompass neurotized muscle grafts employed for the purpose of amplifying peripheral nerve electrical signaling. The aim of this investigation was to undertake an analysis of the extant literature concerning animal models utilized in the context of RPNIs. A systematic review of the literature of RPNI techniques in animal models was performed in line with the PRISMA statement using the MEDLINE/PubMed and Embase databases from January 1970 to September 2023. Within the compilation of one hundred and four articles employing the RPNI technique, a subset of thirty-five were conducted using animal models across six distinct institutions. The majority (91%) of these studies were performed on murine models, while the remaining (9%) were conducted employing macaque models. The most frequently employed anatomical components in the construction of the RPNIs were the common peroneal nerve and the extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscle. Through various histological techniques, robust neoangiogenesis and axonal regeneration were evidenced. Functionally, the RPNIs demonstrated the capability to discern, record, and amplify action potentials, a competence that exhibited commendable long-term stability. Different RPNI animal models have been replicated across different studies.
