Lighting of recreation grounds as a source of sky glow. The influence of luminaire type on this phenomenon
The paper presents a research study about potential alteration of the natural levels of darkness of the night sky by lighting of recreation grounds by typical opal glass luminaires equipped with HPS and Super HPS (high pressure sodium), MH (metal halide), LED (light emitting diode) lamps. The opal glass sphere luminaire under consideration was placed on different types of grounds: asphalt, concrete, soil, grass, snow. Into calculations of sky glow relative level were taken luminaire intensity curve, spectral properties of ground and spectral power distributions of light sources. The results shows that switching in opal glass outdoor lighting installation light sources from HPS to cold LED could increase almost twice the sky glow
Light-emitting diodes in dermatology: stimulation of wound healing
Low-level light therapy (LLLT), which is sometimes included in phototherapy, is an effective therapeutic strategy to improve wound healing and reduce pain, inflammation and swelling. Nowadays, new sources of light, such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with a broad range of wavelengths, are widely available. The biological effects promoted by LEDs are dependent on irradiation parameters, mainly wavelength and dose. This review article focuses on recent clinical trials using light-emitting diode low-level light therapy (LED-LLLT) for enhancing wound healing. In this article, we also cover the mechanisms of action of LLLT on cells and tissues and highlight the importance of defining optimum LLLT parameters for stimulation of wound healing
