This bulletin presents key findings at a local level from the third drug prevalence survey of households in both Ireland and Northern Ireland. The bulletin presents results relating to drug prevalence on a lifetime, last year (recent) and last month (current) basis for illegal and other drugs including alcohol and tobacco for each Regional Drug Task Force Area (former Health Board areas) in Ireland, and Health and Social Care Trust (HSCT) in Northern Ireland.

Tobacco Free Ireland Action Plan

Tobacco Free Ireland was the first policy document to be launched under the Healthy Ireland framework and sets a target for Ireland to be tobacco free (i.e. with a smoking prevalence rate of less than 5%) by the year 2025.
Tobacco Free Ireland has over 60 recommendations and the Action Plan was drawn up following consultation with those who will have responsibility for ensuring that the recommendations are implemented.

This Bulletin presents the key findings from the fourth drug prevalence survey of households in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Within Ireland the survey sampled a representative number of people aged 15+ from August 2014 to August 2015. Within Northern Ireland a representative sample of persons aged 15-64 years was selected. The survey was carried out according to standards set by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugsand Drug Addiction (EMCDDA).
Data relating to drug prevalence on a lifetime (ever used), last year (recent) and last month (current) basis for Ireland, Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland are presented in this bulletin. Statistically significant changes in prevalence rates between 2002/03, 2006/07, 2010/11 and 2014/15 are presented in the tables and comparisons between 2010/11 and 2014/15 are discussed in each section.

Tobacco Free Ireland
The high levels of smoking in Ireland require a more concerted effort to support the continued development of a tobacco free society where people can live longer and healthier lives free from the detrimental effects of tobacco. The direction given in this policy report seeks to de-normalise tobacco within Irish society, reduce initiation rates, assist smokers to quit, protect non-smokers, especially children, from the effects of second-hand smoke, by building on a stable policy and legislative framework. These measures will be achieved within existing resources.

This revised report on immunisation guidelines for Ireland has been prepared with the assistance of an active Committee from associated disciplines in Paediatrics, Infectious Diseases, General Practice, Public Health, Microbiology, Occupational Health, Travel Medicine and the Irish Medicines Board. The report itself continues to be simple and concise in design and of course does not claim to contain all information on any pharmacological material.
