Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in Argentina: unveiling the burden of treatment through patient and caregiver perspectives
Purpose: To examine the burden of treatment (BoT) experienced by people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in Argentina. Methods: Qualitative methodological design based on semi-structured interviews. Nineteen semi-structured interviews were conducted (PwALS = 7, informal caregivers= 12). The interview guides were designed based on the literature and BoT theory. Data were analysed following a framework analysis approach. Results: The research highlighted the arduous journey toward obtaining a diagnosis, marked by delays influenced by healthcare system inefficiencies, lack of disease awareness and pandemic-related anxiety. Receiving the diagnosis was a destabilising experience, triggering the need to reframe self-identity, a new reality. As the disease progressed, patients encountered significant challenges in their daily activities and basic tasks, affecting their ability to work, communicate, and manage personal care. The burden extended beyond the patients to their primary caregivers. Access to specialised care, bureaucratic complexities in securing treatment, and the financial impact of managing the disease posed substantial challenges. Conclusion: The findings offer valuable insights into the experiences of PwALS and their caregivers in Argentina. They underscore the need for increased disease awareness, improved access to specialised care, and enhanced support networks to alleviate the burdens PwALS and their families face.Fil: Alonso, Juan Pedro.
In an increasingly urbanized world, the way our cities are built, grow, and develop has a direct impact on our quality of life. But who participates in these decisions? This book unravels the mechanisms and impacts of the institutionalization of Urban Development Agreements in the city of Córdoba, Argentina. These public-private partnerships for urban production have become a key tool for local governments. However, what do these agreements really entail? How have regulations and institutions adapted to favor this dynamic? Which actors have been the main beneficiaries of these changes? What are the consequences for cities and their inhabitants? Through a historical overview, the author answers these questions and shows how the commodification of the city has been promoted and how a way of building cities that prioritizes the interests of the real estate market over the needs of the community has been institutionalized.
Literary criticism of the eighties and nineties in Argentina was marked by the strong presence of Michel Foucault's perspective, particularly the way in which the cultural studies read and systematized his work. The objective of this article is to analyze the place of the French author in the critical work of two fundamental figures for the Argentine and Latin American field: Josefina Ludmer and Beatriz Sarlo. Through the investigation of some of his productions during the mentioned period, we will give an account of a scene of Foucault's reception in Argentine criticism, marked by differences between both firms in their conceptions of literature, politics and the State. These divergences support the possibility of visualizing a controversy that revolves around certain categories of the French philosopher.
acontecidos a lo largo del mismo y cómo éste es importante para mostrar los cambios y transformaciones a través del mismoThe present thesis has the objective of demonstrating how, within the confines of a
dramatic text, the authors can represent both the sentiments and identities of people on
a particular context and how that is relevant to the social reality. Likewise, it pretends to
show the strong bonds that exist between sentiments, that can be generated in couple
relationships and paternal relationships as well as the construction of the masculinities
of the characters of the theatrical play.
The base of said study is the play “La eternidad en sus ojos” by Eduardo Adrianzen
(2013), with the analysis centered around the two masculine characters: Alejandro and
Claudio. These two characters will be analyzed through their most important personal
relationships inside the story. On one side, Alejandro will be studied regarding his
couple, amorous relationship with Nina and his paternal love towards Claudio. On the
other hand, Claudio will be studied exclusively through his relationship with his father,
Alejandro. In that same sense, these masculine identity configurations will be analyzed
taking into consideration love (both as a couple and parental) within the context that
was determined by the author, it being the Internal Armed Conflict.
Finally, the thesis will take into account, as an important element, the utilization of
different time frames -past and present- used by the author to narrate the events
transpired and how these changes help to exhibit change and transformation

Barriers and facilitators to vaccination in Latin America: a thematic synthesis of qualitative studies
Vaccines are often undervalued or underused for a variety of reasons, and vaccine hesitancy is a global challenge that threatens vaccine acceptance and the goals of immunization programs. This review aimed to describe the barriers and facilitators to vaccination in Latin America. The study design was a systematic review and thematic synthesis of qualitative studies reporting on the knowledge or attitudes of adults, parents of children at vaccination age, adolescents and health professionals towards vaccination in Latin America. The databases searched were PubMed, CENTRAL, Scopus, LILACS, SciELO, and CINAHL. A total of 56 studies were included. Facilitators included vaccination being recognized as an effective strategy for preventing infectious diseases and as a requirement for access to social assistance programs, schooling or employment. Recommendations from health professionals and positive experiences with health services were also identified as facilitators. The main barriers were lack of information or counseling, structural problems such as shortages of vaccines and limited hours of operation, the inability to afford over-the-counter vaccines or transportation to health facilities, certain religious beliefs, misconceptions and safety concerns. Qualitative research can contribute to understanding perceptions and decision-making about vaccination and to designing policies and interventions to increase coverage
Para essa divisão utilizamos Tomachevski (“Temática”, 1973) e o Dicionário de termos literários, de Massaud Moisés, 1974...Our research tries to indicate the relationship between literature and society in the short stories of À sombra do cipreste (1999) and A coleira no pescoço (2006) by Menalton Braff, contemporary Brazilian author. The sociological reading arose because Menalton’s short stories, while providing an intimate reading because of the characters’ crises, poetic language, stream of consciousness, use of impressionist and expressionist technique in writing, among others characteristics, also make implicit the ways in which social relations, values and ideological orientations interfere with the characters and contribute to the economy of the text. To show the connections between text and context, we’ve used the analytical method of Antonio Candido, the sociological critic, based on the books Literatura e sociedade (1965) and Formação da literature brasileira (1997). We have also proposed a division of the corpus into four thematic fronts, Death/Memory, Family Relationship, Abandonment/Loneliness and Social strike, as method which would help the reading of the short stories (thirteen in total). This division, however, sought to point the main theme in each story, but did not propose a reading of each theme tight, because each narrative moves among the four groups. To accomplish this division we’ve used Tomachevski (“Temática”, 1973) and the Dicionário de termos literários, by Massaud Moisés, 1974.
Palabras claves: macarons, semillas, chulpi, sambo, zapalloThe macaron is a representative of French fine pastry, a snack highly desired by different
countries of the world, for this reason the following title work seeks, through the use of flours
of: toasted chulpi, sambo seeds and pumpkin, the innovation of traditional macarons with
fillings of sweets and traditional drinks of Azuay. The main organoleptic characteristics of each
of the seeds will be investigated, their health benefits, organoleptic properties, vitamins,
minerals, the consumption of macarons in the city of Cuenca, their level of acceptance in the
public through a survey carried out in the Faculty of Hospitality Sciences. Technical sheets
were prepared for both the macarons and the fillings and, taking into account the
characteristics of each traditional sweet or drink of Azuay, a different type of filling was
assigned for each type of macaron. Trial and error was performed; The first consisted of
adding a percentage of the almond flour in the preparation of the macaron, the second is
where the chulpi flour, sambo seed and 100% pumpkin were used in the preparation of the
macaron, we have analyzed and detailed each result in a written and visual way so that the
process that each type of macaron has had can be understood. Finally, at the end of this work,
we present standard recipes for each type of macaron with their respective filling of traditional
drinks and sweets from Azuay.
