Sustainability Informatics – A new Subfield of Applied Informatics?

    No full text
Environmental Informatics is a well established part of Applied Informatics and shapes important contributions to enhance environmental protection. However, the latter field has been undertaken several developments in direction to Sustainable Development (SD) in the last years. SD extends environmental protection and comprises also questions of economy and society. Consequently, it is necessary to discuss if it is useful to establish a subfield called “Sustainability Informatics”.http://enviroinfo.eu/sites/default/files/pdfs/vol119/0384.pd

The paper contains issues regarding: main characteristics and examples of the distributed informatics systems and main difference categories among them, concepts, principles, techniques and fields for auditing the distributed informatics systems, concepts and classes of the standard term, characteristics of this one, examples of standards, guidelines, procedures and controls for auditing the distributed informatics systems. The distributed informatics systems are characterized by the following issues: development process, resources, implemented functionalities, architectures, system classes, particularities. The audit framework has two sides: the audit process and auditors. The audit process must be led in accordance with the standard specifications in the IT&C field. The auditors must meet the ethical principles and they must have a high-level of professional skills and competence in IT&C field.informatics audit, characteristic, distributed informatics system, standard

Applied informatics in automatic control education

The computer control is one large area of applied informatics. Today's control systems are mostly based on the different types of computers and their communication in more level systems is also defined by the computer communications rules. Practical laboratory training is very important part of education process in the area of technical engineering. It is necessary to verified theoretical knowledge with the real technological processes - if it is possible, or at least on the real models of technological processes. At the Tomas Bata University in Zlin, Faculty of Applied Informatics there are in the range of study branch Automatic Control and Informatics several disciplines focused to the problematic of automatic control theory. Control theory is lectured from the fundamental principles to the modem approach to the computer control systems and methodology. For the laboratory training were built new models for the using of many different synthesis methods and many possibilities to solve computer and hardware configuration of the control system. From the microcomputers applications thorough the PLC to the special PC control systems. One from these models is time delay model. In this contribution are described experiences with the using of this model computer control in the education process

Mathematics in Applied Informatics Education - New Choices and Challenges

    No full text
In this paper, new ways of teaching Mathematics, which have been opened by the widespread of computers and notebooks and also by adequate software tools, are discussed. Based on our experience, we advocate the use of Open Source software as the mainstream tools in Mathematics and Informatics education. We give the more concrete examples of tools, used for teaching of Numerical Analysis topics, which can be successfully explored also for majority of other subjects in Applied Informatics and Mathematics. Some recommendations for the choices of suitable software and for further coordination in this field are given

Policy Statement on Clinical Informatics Fellowships and the Future of Informatics- Driven Medicine

Board certified clinical informaticians provide expertise in leveraging health IT (HIT) and health data for patient care and quality improvement. Clinical Informatics experts possess the requisite skills and competencies to make systems-level improvements in care delivery using HIT, workflow and data analytics, knowledge acquisition, clinical decision support, data visualization, and related informatics tools. However, these physicians lack structured and sustained funding because they have no billing codes. The sustainability and growth of this new and promising medical subspecialty is threatened by outdated and inconsistent funding models that fail to support the education and professional growth of clinical informaticians. The Clinical Informatics Program Directors' Community is calling upon the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to consider novel funding structures and programs through its Innovation Center for Clinical Informatics Fellowship training. Only through structural and sustained funding for Clinical Informatics fellows will be able to fully develop the potential of electronic health records to improve the quality, safety, and cost of clinical care

In this era of «information explosion», financial accounting with information systems is becoming more and more accessible. This paper aims to present some dynamic applications/services for SMEs, such as the free and open-source software (FOSS/FLOSS) and the proprietary software for financial accounting. Due to the ongoing downturn in the Greek economy, the increasing pressure of competitive multinationals but also trends created last, SMEs need to rethink their strategy in order to enhance the image of Greek brands and to ensure the development through a reference to innovation and new information technologies between them. The paper discusses the concepts, dimensions, and questions around information and communication technologies from a business perspective in decision-making. It compares the free and open-source software and proprietary software for financial accounting. This comparison focuses on tables with a view to identifying the issues and challenges for those involved in the face through these software and applications for them. The paper highlights the particular importance of the free and open-source software (FOSS/FLOSS) and their contributions in financial accounting in favor of SMEs due to budget limitations. Findings suggest that future research should examine a case study for the crucial role of the above information systems and technologies in making appropriate investment decisions, specifying the value of a business unit. The paper highlights the role of information systems for those involved in business, in emphasizing the department of finance. While much has been written about the information systems/ technologies, there has been a lack of highlighting their assistance in financial decisions.226392nd Student Conference of Department of Applied Informatics University of Macedoni

Best Practices for Health Informatician Involvement in Interprofessional Health Care Teams
