Mesleki öğrenme grubunun beden eğitimi öğretmenlerinin sağlıkla ilgili fiziksel uygunluk bilgilerini geliştirmede kullanımı : öğrenci öğrenmesine etkileri
The purpose of this study was to examine 1) the ways physical education teachers’ interact in a community of practice (CoP) 2) the effects of participation in CoP on the physical educators’ and their students’ health-related fitness (HRF) content knowledge (CK) and 3) the effects of physical education teachers’ CoP experience on their HRF pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) construction process. Twelve experienced physical education teachers (six in treatment, six in control group) and 278 of their students voluntarily participated in this study. Mixed method research with experimental pre–post design was used. Teachers in treatment group participated in a CoP for six weeks. For the first research question, results of the Interaction Process Analysis indicated that the types and patterns of the interactions changed over the six weeks. Teachers were more open to giving suggestions and opinions, expressing their feelings to each other and collectively offering solutions to each others problems as the weeks progressed. For the second research question, both quantitative and qualitative analysis indicated that teachers’ participation in a CoP increased both their and their students’ HRF CK. Two themes emerged to reveal these teachers’ increased CK: (1) how teachers became aware of their needs about HRF CK through support of the CoP and (2) the types of resources that helped them improve their CK through the CoP. For the third research question, results of the qualitative data demonstrated that for teachers, seeing their students respond positively and enjoying learning encouraged them to change their classroom practices. These changes typically resulted from increased HRF CK and made a change in teachers’ classroom practice, implementing new instructional methods, developing instructional tools, giving responsibility for learning to their students.Ph.D. - Doctoral Progra
Ortaokullarda sağlıkla ilgili beden eğitimi reformu sonrası öğrencilerin fiziksel aktivite düzeyleri ve öğretmen deneyimleri.
The purpose of this study was to examine physical activity level of students and experiences of teachers after the Health-Related Physical Education Reform in secondary schools. Participants were 153 seventh grade students (83 girls and 70 boys) and their physical education teachers (six teachers) from three public secondary schools with limited, moderate and good physical infrastructure for physical education/activity in Ankara. For data collection, pedometer was used to measure students’ physical activity level and semi-structured interviews were conducted with teachers. Quantitative data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, Analysis of Variances and Paired Sample t Test. Interview data was analyzed by content analysis method. According to the findings, students met approximately 28% and 31% (girls and boys) of daily physical activity recommendations during the school time. Boys were more physically active than girls during school time (p0.05). Interview findings revealed that teachers’ practices in physical education setting influenced by their a) perception of school principals, students, other physical education teachers and parents’ expectations, b) perception of physical education related educational policies, social setting and physical setting in the school, c) knowledge of physical education curriculum and d) knowledge of subject matter and its teaching.M.S. - Master of Scienc

The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of six weeks psychological skills training program (PST) based on cognitive-behavioral conceptual framework on the team cohesion, confidence, and anxiety of an intact team. Participants consisted of two teams of 36 male youth basketball players. The PST program consisted of team building, goal setting, relaxation, imagery, self-talk, pep-talk, converting thoughts, autogenic training, and progressive relaxation techniques. For the quantitative part of the study Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ), the Trait Sport-Confidence Inventory (TSCI), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) were given during the pre-intervention, post-intervention, first, second and third follow-up tests. Qualitative process was used in current study to support validation of implied PST program. Six players and coach were interviewed with semi-structured questions. A mixed design MANOVA revealed significant differences over time for team cohesion (F [16, 19] = 3.25, p .05). Moreover, comparison between experimental and control group results indicated that there was a significant results between those two groups. Overall, it was concluded that the PST program with experimental team affected athletes’ team cohesion and self-confidence levels positively but there was no significant affect on athletes’ anxiety levels.Ph.D. - Doctoral Progra

The purposes of this study were (1) to identify the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), Technology Integration Self Efficacy (TISE) and Instructional Technology Outcome Expectations (ITOE) of pre-service physical education teachers, (2) to examine the relationships among “TPACK”, “TISE” and “ITOE”, and (3) to examine the differences between pre-service physical education teachers who perceived and who did not perceive technology integration by their university instructors on “TPACK”, “TISE”, and “ITOE” scores. Seven hundred sixty pre-service physical education teachers from 14 randomly selected universities representing seven geographical regions in Turkey participated in the study. Data were collected by validated versions of “TPACK”, “TISE”, and “ITOE” surveys. Descriptive Analysis, Canonical Correlation Analysis, MANOVA, Independent t Test, and Qualitative Content Analysis were used for data analysis. Findings indicated that TPACK, TISE and ITOE perceptions of pre-service physical education teachers were at good level. University instructors were not good role models in technology integration for the pre-service teachers in general. According to the pre-service teachers’ report, integration of physical education and sport related emerging technologies were almost did not exist in the teaching practices of university setting.TPACK, TISE, and ITOE were moderately related with each other (p<0.05). Preservice teachers’ self perceptions on TPACK, TISE, and ITOE were positively influenced by their perception of university instructors’ technology integration into teaching in university courses (p<0.05). Based on the findings, it is recommended to provide professional development programs for the teacher education program instructors in technology integration, in teaching and in emerging physical education and sport related technologies. In addition, using technology integrated teaching models by both university instructors and pre-service teachers should be encouraged.M.S. - Master of Scienc

Using self-determination theory and trans-theoretical model, the aim of this study was to examine the women health-related physical activity participants’ perceived autonomy support and basic psychological needs in exercise in terms of their exercise stages of change (five stages including pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action and maintenance) preferred physical activities (aerobic vs muscular endurance & flexibility), frequency of participation (weekly number of days in physical activity) and job type (student, administrative staff and academic staff) at a university setting. The sample consisted of 175 women participating in health related physical activity classes including Zumba, Power Step, Pilates, Free-style Tempo, Free Style Combat, Yoga and Total Body at a university (M age= 25.1, SD= 7.2). Participants completed the Perceived Autonomy Support, Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Setting and Physical Activity Stages of Change Questionnaires. Data analyzed by using one-way ANOVA and one-way MANOVA. Findings indicated that perceived autonomy support was significantly different by exercise stages of change (p.05). Findings on psychological needs in exercise revealed that there was a significant difference by participants’ preferred physical activities and job type (p.05). There was no significant difference in the basic psychological needs in exercise by participants’ stages of change and weekly frequency of exercise (p>.05). In conclusion, findings indicated that participants’ perceived autonomy is differed by exercise stages of change level, and basic psychological needs in exercise is differed by preferred physical activities and job type. In order to meet the needs of women health related physical activity program participants in the university setting, physical activity program providers and instructors should consider perceived autonomy support and basic psychological needs by exercise stages of change preferred physical activities and job type.M.S. - Master of Scienc
Beden eğitimi öğretmen adaylarının genel ve özelleşmiş alan bilgisi seviyeleri için geliştirilen bir badminton dersinin etkisi.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of badminton content knowledge intervention on pre-service teachers’ common and specialized content knowledge. Quasi-experimental design with purposefully selected experiment and comparison groups was applied for this study. Experimental group comprised 38 preservice teachers from a physical education teacher education (PETE) program at a university in Turkey. The comparison group included 36 preservice teachers from another university having a similar context with the experimental group in terms of student selection process. Experimental group followed a 10-week badminton content knowledge intervention which was designed according to Ward’s content knowledge framework (Ward, 2009a). Comparison group participants followed their regular badminton course at their PETE program. A validated badminton content knowledge test was developed and applied to both experimental and comparison groups before and after the badminton courses. At the end of the intervention, 12 experimental group participants were interviewed. Mixed ANOVA was used for statistical analysis of content knowledge test. Interview data were analyzed with content analysis method. Findings indicated a significant increase in common content and specialized content knowledge level of experimental and comparison group participants from pre to posttest (p<.05). Moreover, experimental group participants’ common and specialized content knowledge gains from pre to posttest was higher than the comparison group participants’ related content knowledge levels (p<.05). Content analysis of interview data indicated four themes; 1) enjoyment, 2) content knowledge development, 3) learning how to teach, and 4) instructor’s content knowledge level. In conclusion, designing badminton course by the Ward’ content knowledge framework was effective for the PETE students common and specialized content knowledge development. Physical activity/sports courses in the PETE program should be designed according to this framework, and the professional subject matter content knowledge of the instructors of those courses should be re-visited. İki basketbol eğitimi ortamında antrenman etkinlikleri, antrenör davranışları ve sporcuların psikososyal kazanımlarının karşılatırılması.
The purposes of the study were to conduct systematic analysis of youth basketball practice activities, coaching behaviors, and youth basketball players’ youth experiences, sources of enjoyment and burnout in sport. Participants of this study were composed of four basketball school coaches, four club team coaches, and 390 youth male basketball players aged 12 to 14 years old from Ankara. The eight coach were videotaped three times during practice and totally 24 practice video were recorded. Videotaped practice activities were coded as training form and playing form activities and coaching behaviors were coded by using the Arizona State University Observation Instrument (ASUOI). Descriptive statistical analysis was used for observational data. Meantime with video recording, 390 youth male basketball players from several basketball school and club’s youth basketball teams completed the Youth Experiences Survey for Sport (YES-S), Sources of Enjoyment in Youth Sport Questionnaire (SEYSQ), and Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ). MANOVA was used for statistical comparison of basketball school and club team players’ group comparison. After then, stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to investigate the role of enjoyment and burnout on youth basketball players positive and negative youth development experiences. Systematic observation results indicated that observed practice activities displayed similar patterns in both basketball school and club’s youth basketball practices and training form of activities were found much more higher than playing form activities. Like practice activities, coaches exhibit similar coaching behaviors in both basketball contexts. MANOVA results showed that there were no significant differences between basketball school and club team players’ YES-S, v SEYSQ, and ABQ scores (p<.05). According to stepwise multiple regression results, while some of SEYSQ subscales explained the positive development experiences, the ABQ and other SEYSQ explained negative developmental experiences. Overall findings of the study indicated that youth basketball activities are composed of much more training form practice activities than playing form activities. Coaching behaviors in each context were observed as similar and most observed coaching behaviors were instructional behaviors. Because youth basketball players exposure was similar regarding practice activities and coaching behaviors during practices, they have similar youth development experiences, enjoyment, and burnout levels. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impacts of an interdisciplinary
professional learning community (idPLC) consisting of a group of different subject
matter teachers on:1) teachers' content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge
development processes on selected body systems (skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular,
respiratory),health-related fitness (HrF) knowledge, 2) their students' HrF knowledge
and physical activity levels, 3) the idPLC teachers’ students’ views on interdisciplinary
teaching approaches. Mixed-method design was adopted. The sample included one
sixth grade in two experimental and two control schools (nexperimental =35, ncontrol =45)
and different subject teachers teaching these classes in experimental group schools (n
= 10). Two six-week idPLCs were implemented separately for the experimental
groups’ teachers. Each idPLC included a facilitator and five different subject matter
teachers (physical education, science, English, psychological counseling and
guidance, visual arts/Turkish). Qualitative data were collected through idPLC video
recordings, semi-structured interviews with teachers, field notes. Findings showed
improvement in teachers' content and pedagogical content knowledge of selected body
systems and HrF knowledge through questioning, acceptance, practice, and reflection.
Quantitative data were collected by HrF Knowledge Test and PAQ-C through
pretest/posttest applications. Findings revealed a significant increase in the
experimental group students' HrF knowledge and physical activity levels as compared
to the control group (p<.05). Focus-group interviews with students, student journals
were used to examine how students perceive their teachers’ practices. Their teachers
used an interdisciplinary approach in their classes. This approach, from the students'
view, supported the course's effectiveness, encouraged creative thinking, developed
body awareness, and helped make a real-life connection.Çalışmanın amacı ortaokulda aynı sınıflara ders veren farklı branş öğretmenlerinden oluşan disiplinlerarası mesleki gelişim topluluklarının (dMGT) 1) seçilen vücut sistemleri (kas iskelet, dolaşım ve solunum), sağlıkla ilgili fiziksel uygunluk (SiFU) alan ve pedagojik alan bilgileri geliştirme süreçlerine; 2) öğrencilerinin SiFU bilgisi ve fiziksel aktivite düzeylerine etkilerini; 3) dMGT’ye katılan öğretmenlerin öğrencilerinin, disiplinler arası öğretim yaklaşımına ilişkin görüşlerini incelemektir. Çalışmada karma yöntem kullanılmıştır. Örneklemi iki deney ve iki kontrol okulunun birer altıncı sınıfında eğitim alan öğrenciler (ndeney=35; nkontrol=45) ve deney grubu okullarında bu sınıflara ders veren farklı branş öğretmenleri (n=10) oluşturmuştur. Deney gruplarında, altı haftalık iki ayrı dMGT uygulanmıştır. Her bir dMGT’de uzman bir kolaylaştırıcı ve beş farklı branş öğretmeni (beden eğitimi, fen bilgisi, İngilizce, rehberlik ve psikolojik danışmanlık, görsel sanatlar/Türkçe) yer almıştır. Nitel veriler, dMGT video kayıtları, öğretmenlerle yapılan yarı yapılandırılmış bireysel görüşmeler ve alan notları ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde, sürekli karşılaştırılmalı analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular öğretmenlerin seçilen vücut sistemleri ve SiFU bilgilerinin dMGT sürecinde alan ve pedagojik alan bilgilerinin sorgulama, kabul, uygulama ve yansıma süreçlerinden geçerek geliştiğini göstermiştir. Nicel veriler SiFU bilgi testi ve Çocuklar için Fiziksel Aktivite anketi ile ön test/son test uygulamaları ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular deney grubu öğrencilerinin SiFU bilgi düzeyleri ve fiziksel aktivite seviyelerinin kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı düzeyde arttığını ortaya koymuştur (p<.05). Öğrencilerin dMGT yaklaşımlarını nasıl algıladıklarını daha iyi anlamak için öğrencilerle odak grup görüşmeleri ve öğrenci günlükleri kullanılmıştır. Öğrenciler öğretmenlerinin derslerinde disiplinler arası yaklaşımı kullandıklarını farketmişlerdir. Çalışan İhtiyaçları Temelli Zindelik Programının Tasarlanması ve Değerlendirilmesi
The purpose of this study was to design and evaluate a need-based employee wellness program that integrates new media, with a focus on the social-ecological context. To this end, a mixed-methods-research design was used in two consecutive studies. In Study-1, instruments measuring technopark employees' lifestyle behaviours and work productivity were applied to 405 technopark employees in six different Turkish cities. Data were analyzed by using multiple linear regression and two-step cluster analysis. Regression findings indicated that physical activity, nutrition, and stress management behaviours statistically predict work performance in technopark employees (p<0.05). The two-step cluster analysis showed four motivational clusters, including avoidance (no intention to change), intention (have the intention but no action), participation (recently have started), and maintenance (become a habit). Based on the Study-1 findings, a seven-week employee wellness program was developed and applied (Study-2) to intention cluster participants in pretest-posttest experimental design. The experimental group (n=32) received the intervention, and the control group (n=29) did not. At the end of the study, interviews with 10 experimental group participants were conducted. The quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed with mixed design multivariate analysis of variance and deductive thematic analysis, respectively. Results showed a significant increase in physical activity, nutrition, health literacy, and work productivity in the experimental group (p<0.05). The qualitative analysis described the changes in the participants' physical activity, nutrition, work and office behaviours, and experiences in the intervention. In conclusion, the use of the designed need-based employee wellness program is recommended to support technopark employees' overall wellness.Bu çalışmanın amacı, sosyal-ekolojik bağlama odaklanarak yeni medyayı bütünleştiren, ihtiyaç temelli bir çalışan zindeliği programını tasarlamak ve değerlendirmektir. Bu amaçla, karma yöntem araştırma deseni ardışık iki çalışmada kullanılmıştır. Birinci çalışmada Türkiye'nin altı farklı ilinde yerleşik 405 teknopark çalışanına sağlıklı yaşam davranışlarını ve iş üretkenliğini ölçen araçlar uygulanmıştır. Veriler çoklu doğrusal regresyon ve iki aşamalı kümeleme analizi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Regresyon analizi teknokent çalışanlarında fiziksel aktivite, beslenme ve stres yönetimi davranışlarının iş performansını istatistiksel olarak öngördüğünü göstermiştir (p<0.05). İki aşamalı kümeleme analizinde ise kaçınma profili (olumlu yaşam alışkanlıkları geliştirmeye niyeti olmayan), niyet profili (niyeti olan ancak harekete geçmeyen), katılım profili (değişime yeni başlamış) ve devamlılık profili (alışkanlığa çevirmiş) olan dört motivasyonel alt küme saptanmıştır. Birinci çalışmanın bulgularını temel alarak niyet profili grubuna yedi haftalık bir çalışan zindeliği programı geliştirilmiş (İkinci çalışma) ve ön test, son test deneysel tasarım kullanılarak uygulanmıştır. Program deney grubuna (n=32) uygulanırken, kontrol grubuna (n=29) herhangi bir müdahele yapılmamıştır. Çalışma sonunda deney grubundan 10 katılımcı ile mülakatlar yapılmıştır. Nicel ve nitel veriler sırasıyla karma desenli çoklu değişkenli varyans analizi ve tümdengelimli tematik analiz ile incelenmiştir. Sonuçlar çalışan zindeliği programının fiziksel aktivite, beslenme, sağlık okuryazarlığı ve iş verimliliği üzerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir etkisi olduğunu göstermiştir (p<0.05). Nitel analizler katılımcıların fiziksel aktivite, beslenme, iş ve ofis davranışları ve deneyimlerindeki değişiklikleri tanımlamıştır.
