    Conversational Agents and Trust

    This dataset consists of references of collected papers for a literature study on conversational agents and trust. The papers included were analyzed and coded. The following data was extracted from these papers: Paper Title, Authors, Publication year, Journal, Discipline, Abstract, DOI, Author keywords, Methodology, Trust definition, Trust Operationalisation and Source of Trust Operationalisation. This dataset was collected to get an overview of how Trust has been defined and measured when it comes to Conversational Agents. To identify relevant papers, a search strategy based on CA-related keywords was developed. Using the keyword ‘trust’ was sufficient to capture variations of the term in the search results (e.g., ‘trustworthy’). Only papers published between 2015 and 2023 were included, sourced from databases such as Web of Science, Wiley, Elicit, IEEE, ACM, Tandfonline, Ebscohost, and the HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht digital library. In total, 1,240 papers were initially retrieved. After removing duplicates, 1,094 papers remained. Next, papers that did not focus on Trust and Conversational Agents (chatbots, assistants etc.) were excluded. The final dataset consists of 74 papers. Data collection took place from November 2022 to November 2023. With this dataset, a Jupyter Notebook is (will be) included used to analyse the data

    Energy consumption and feasibility study of a hybrid desiccant dehumidification air conditioning system in Beirut

    This work studies the economic feasibility of integrating a rotary solid desiccant wheel with the conventional vapor compression air-conditioning system in the city of Beirut. To increase the economic practicality of such a hybrid system, the combined system utilizes the heat dissipated by the condenser and natural gas heat energy in regenerating the desiccant wheel. A heat and mass transfer desiccant model is developed to study the hourly performance of the hybrid system when used in air conditioning a typical auditorium (150 m2) over the entire cooling season. The economic performance of the hybrid system is compared with the conventional air-conditioning system while varying the number of occupants in the auditorium from 10 to 100 to change the sensible heat ratio from 0.53 to 0.27 and the percentage of the outside fresh air from 25percent to 100percent. The conventional system cooling load range was between 9.2 kW and 63.4 kW for the cases simulated in this work, while the vapor compression subsystem varied in the hybrid system from 7.4 kW to 32.7 kW. It was found that the economic viability of the hybrid system increases with lower sensible heat ratio (SHR) and increases in the percentage of outside air.     Trade-off between ordinary differential equation and Legendre polynomial methods to study guided modes in angle-ply laminate

    It has been shown that the roots of guided waves in laminate plates produced by the ordinary differential equations (ODE) approach may not hold under to some computational conditions. A particular drawback of the 2D formulation of the ODE approach is the lack of reliability in the case of unidirectional laminates due to the decoupling properties between the SH and Lamb wave modes, which is caused by the unified matrix of roots. Due to this problem, the SH modes disappear from the unified roots of guided modes, then re-emerge with a separate computation of the SH and Lamb wave modes. Initially, we did not notice this computational “bug” in the event of a coupling between the SH and Lamb wave modes. In this context, the Legendre polynomial method is used to illustrate that fact. Results demonstrate how the polynomial method is pre-eminent to handle the laminate modelling over the ODE method for these specific requirements, however, a trade-off between these two methods needs to be considered to obtain stable and robust behavior of guided dispersion curves.     This anthology brings the key writings on translation in Arabic in the pre-modernera, extending from the earliest times (sixth century CE) until the end of World War I, to a global English-speaking audience. The texts are arranged chronologically and organized by two historical periods: the Classical Period, and the Nahda Period. Each text is preceded by an introduction about the selected text and author, placing the work in context, and discussing its significance.The texts are complemented with a theoretical commentary, discussing thesignificance for the contemporary period and modern theory. A general introduction covers the historical context, main trends, research interests, and main findings and conclusions. The two appendices provide statistical data of the corpus on which the anthology is based, more than 500 texts of varying lengths extending throughout the entire period of study.     Simplified heat transport model of a wind-permeable clothed cylinder subject to swinging motion

    The effect of ventilation induced by the swinging motion of a clothed cylinder in uniform wind derived from Ghaddar et al.'s periodic ventilation model is incorporated into Lotens' simple heat resistance network model to predict the mean steady periodic heat loss from the clothed cylinder. Experiments are conducted to measure the sensible heat loss from the inner cylinder for the case of a swinging inner cylinder enclosed within a clothed cylinder at different frequencies of motion and for open and closed clothing apertures at the one end of the clothed cylinder. The heat model predictions of time-averaged steady-periodic sensible heat loss agree well with the experimentally measured values at different swing frequencies between 40 and 80 rpm from experiments conducted in a controlled environmental chamber at T∞ = 25°C and relative humidity (RH) = 50percent (air velocity is less than 0.05 m-s) and in a low-speed wind tunnel (for air speed between 2 and 4 m-s). The model results showed that the rate of heat loss increased with increased ventilation frequency. Heat transfer by ventilation presented more than 50percent of total heat loss from a clothed cylinder at f = 80 rpm in the absence and presence of wind. When accurate ventilation rates of clothed swinging cylinder are estimated from first principles, the simplified heat resistance model predicted the heat loss from the isothermal cylinder surface with reasonable accuracy.     Experimental and theoretical study of ventilation and heat loss from isothermally heated clothed vertical cylinder in uniform flow field

    The flow characteristics and heat transfer are studied in a vertical annulus of a heated cylinder surrounded by a permeable cylinder, subject to cross uniform wind with open end to the environment and in the presence of natural convection. The objective here is to develop a computationally efficient model capable of capturing the physics of the flow and heat transport to predict air renewal rates in the vertical annulus. The small quantities of air infiltrating-exfiltrating through the porous cylinder over its upstream-downstream regions do not substantially affect the external flow pattern around the clothed cylinder. The air annulus flow and heat transport model predicted the radial and vertical mass fluxes and the mass flow rate at the opening as a function of environment conditions, porous cylinder thermal properties, wind speed, and annulus geometry. Experiments were performed in a low speed wind tunnel (0.5-5 m-s), in which an isothermally heated vertical cylinder surrounded by a clothed outer cylinder was placed in uniform cross wind. The tracer gas method is used to predict total ventilation flow rates through the fabric and the opening. Good agreement was found between the model and experimental measurements of air renewal rate and predicted heat loss from the inner cylinder at steady conditions. A parametric study is performed to study the effect of wind speed and temperature difference between the wind and skin temperature on induced ventilation through the clothing and the opening. It is found that natural convection enhances ventilation of the annulus air at wind speed, less than 3 m-s, while at higher speeds, natural convection effect is negligible.     Kitab Ma’ani Al-Qira’at (meanings of the modes of recitations) by Al-Azhari encompasses a valuable scientific content on the guidance of the modes of recitation. It is considered one of the earliest books written on the guidance on the modes of recitation. Having inducted this book, the researcher concluded that Al-Azhari had followed many methods on the guidance of the modes of recitation, and his approach needs to be studied and clarified. As is well known, each author has his or her own approach, Given this point of departure, the author has conducted this research for the purpose of exploring Al-Azhari’s approach on the guidance of the modes of recitation, and showing the features and tools utilised for that purpose in terms of guiding the modes of recitation by the Holy Quran, the Prophet’s Hadith, othmanic text/ Ottoman lettering, verse etc. The author has followed the analytical inductive approach, where he has inducted Kitab Ma’ani Al-Qira’at (the meanings of the modes of recitation book) finding out the guidance features and tools employed by Al-Azhari for that purpose. This study found out many results: Al-Imam Al-Zuhri did not rely heavily on both the Prophet’s Hadith and Othmanic text /Al-Rasim Al Othmani / Ottoman lettering). He also ignored guiding the successive modes of recitation by the shadhdh ones (without a successive transmission). However, he relied heavily on verse and Arabs sayings and dialects. This study also concluded that Ma’ani Al-Qira’at by Al-Azhari has a considerable scientific value, but it needs refinement and editing because it contains some of weak viewpoints which dispute the validity of some modes of recitation without reacting to them/ with impunity

    Utilizing Bibliometrics to Understand the Role of Machine Learning in the Current Orthopedic Arthroplasty Literature

    Background: Machine learning technology has been demonstrated to be a very useful tool in current orthopedic research. Furthermore, machine learning has shown to be quite impactful in the field of arthroplasty solving many clinical and scientific problems, leading to greater utilization in retrospective studies. This current study aims to identify machine learning arthroplasty research and predict future hotspots. We hypothesize that the production of current scientific literature on machine learning will be produced by US-based national institutions and will have exponentially grown in the past 5 years. Methods: Machine learning arthroplasty publications between 1996 and 2023 were identified using the Web of Science Core Collection of Clarivate Analytics. Then bibliometric indicators were obtained and imported for further analysis with VOSviewer and Bibliometreix to identify previous and ongoing trends within this field. Results: The bibliometric sourcing identified a total of 235 documents that were associated with machine learning applications to arthroplasty. 34 countries published articles on the topic and the United States demonstrated to be the largest contributor. The year 2022 had the highest number of publications produced in a year, totaling 66 articles. A total of 405 institutions across the world had published articles, the most relevant institutions with the highest production were Harvard University and Harvard Medical School with 41 and 34 articles produced respectively. Kwon YM was the most productive author while Haeberle HS and Ramkumar PN are the most impactful based on h-index. Co-occurrence visualization and thematic map identified niche and major themes within the literature. Conclusions: Machine learning in arthroplasty research continues to show an increasing trend since 2021 with contributions from authors and institutions globally. United States institutions and authors are the leading contributors to machine learning applications in arthroplasty research. This study identifies previous, current, and developing trends within this field for future hotspot development

    Demand and Supply Conditions of Islamic Housing Finance in the United Kingdom: Perceptions of Muslim Clients

    An important aspect of Islamic finance in the retail market has been the introduction of mortgage products for housing finance. These are offered by a number of banks in the UK. The aim of this research is to examine the characteristics of the UK market for Islamic mortgages and to analyse the activities of the major institutions involved. Supply and demand conditions are explored. This study evaluates the development of Islamic housing finance in the United Kingdom by focusing on the following main areas: First, it investigates whether there is any effective demand for Islamic Mortgages in the UK. Second, the study evaluates the perceptions of UK Muslims towards various aspects of Islamic mortgages and provides an empirical assessment of these perceptions. Also, the study analyses how Muslim client attitutes and the overall environment affects preferences for Islamic mortgage products. Third, it investigates the factors which might encourage or discourage home-buying among UK Muslims. Fourth, it investigates the current structures of Islamic mortgages and examines whether these play a role in helping low-income groups from the Muslim community to achieve home ownership. Fifth, it investigates the current practices surrounding Islamic mortgages to identify the obstacles and factors influencing decision making with the aim of suggesting possible remedies. The study also evaluates accessibility issues with the objective of defining effective ways of raising awareness in the Muslim Community. It also discusses the marketing of Islamic mortgages and investigates the importance of product awareness by bank staff. Furthermore, it explores in detail the role of religion, Muslim households’ consumer preferences and the prospects for Islamic banks cross-selling mortgage products to Muslim customers. Finally this study investigates the factors influences clients’ choices of Islamic mortgage providers. In fulfilling its aims and objectives, this study has utilized both primary and secondary data from the UK. A survey questionnaire was conducted among the Muslim community in London. Non-parametric procedures and tests have been used to analyze the data collected. The findings of the study demonstrate that there is a gap in home ownership among British Muslims compared to the general public, which is determined by affordability, financial exclusion and information gaps. In addition, this study found that there is substantial potential demand for Islamic mortgages in the UK, which requires effective but also sound marketing strategies. Perception and opinion analysis also indicated that wider social factors and lifestyle choices may be increasing the demand for Islamic mortgages. Moreover, the findings also demonstrate that perceptions of Islamic mortgages are similar between different ethnic and tenure groups. Some Muslim ethnic groups are more willing than others to take on an Islamic mortgage even if it is more expensive than a conventional mortgage. The study concludes that the prospects of Islamic mortgages in UK are promising and, unlike conventional bank mortgages, they are not financed by borrowing from wholesale markets, but rather from Islamic deposits. Islamic housing finance has proved sustainable, and has not been subject to the problems associated with sub-prime defaults. On the other hand a careful risk appraisal by Islamic institutions providing housing finance has made it more difficult for low-income Muslims or those with less secure employment to obtain Shariah-compliant mortgages
