The Trust Game: The influence of Trust on Collaboration in the light of Technological Innovations
Adopting innovations is key for organizations to compete in a complex system, such as the transportation system. In a complex system where social (e.g. organizations) and technical (e.g. information systems) interact with each other, collaboration can be challenging. One of the barriers identified that hampers collaboration is trust. To understand the influence of trust on collaboration, enabled by technological innovations, simulation games in our perspective are a suitable method for our study. First, we introduce the results of a literature study that was carried out to identify related work regarding trust and simulation games. Subsequently, a case from the transport sector is defined to serve as a basis for the trust game. To conclude, we illustrate our simulation gaming approach and discuss the first initial results of a playtest session with the Trust Game.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Policy Analysi
Balancing urban revitalization, tourism, and development issues in times of crisis: Kawagoe's historical district as a self-sustaining and resilient community
Using the example of the urban revitalization process of Kawagoe’s historical city center and district around Ichibangai Street, this paper examines the impact of different tourism development plans on the urban environment, community structure, and local economy of the neighborhood. Expanding on assumptions around the terms heritage, tourism, and tradition, the paper discusses potentials and practices of a distinctive revitalization and tourism approach that can offer new possibilities but also the chance of resistance. This will be done by critically evaluating Kawagoe’s community and tourism development plan and presenting personal trajectories drawing on ethnographic data collected before and after the Tohoku earthquake of 11 March 2011. The results show that synergies which derive from such incidents could be used to develop a better understanding of the impact of tourism development, and of how to rebound from times of crisis. The case of Kawagoe illustrates how the preservation of a traditional townscape can serve as one step toward the development of a sustainable, self-reliant, and resilient community when relying on a distinctive, place-based tourism approach
[Research Note] Between Urban Poetics, Politics and Creativity : Urban Commons and Ordinary Places
In the era of globalization, ordinary places are increasingly contested and urban experiences fragmented, resulting in ordinary places that facilitate everyday life becoming marginalized and turned into places that are left behind yet rediscovered, excluded yet revived, forgotten yet remembered. It is important to consider ordinary places\u27 changing roles and functions as this allows us to understand how different places in the city are usedover a period of time. This is done by studying the changing roles, meanings, and functions of urban commons, as this allows us to understand how processes of globalization are affecting the formation of different kinds of public and ordinary places that are used for different purposes, including isolation, resistance, consumption, and creativity
Marginalized, Rediscovered and Commodified - The Perception of Alleyways in Contemporary Tokyo
Geographically, Edo Tokyo was divided into the hilly area of the high city (yamanote), which surrounded the Edo castle to the north, south and west consisting of mainly large wooden houses for feudal lords (daimyō) and the warrior class (samurai). Other low city areas in the northeast and east along the bay of Edo, formed the ‘island\u27-like living quarters of the commoners or ‘town folk’ (chōnin), as moat and canals structured the area. The ‘low city’ (shitamachi) area was famous for its vibrant urban culture, which developed mainly around the Buddhist temple Sensō-ji in Asakusa. Terms yamanote and shitamachi belong together, as they form the historical, cultural and economical division of Edo-Tokyo. Shitamachi can be translated as ‘low town or city’, back then the area of the commoners of the shogun, located northeast of the Edo Castle and west of the Sumida River (Jinnai, 1995, 108). Yamanote means literally ‘hand of the mountains’, being located on the hills of the Musashino Plateau and divided into three districts of Jōhoku (north), Jōsai (west) and Jōnan (south) of Edo Castle, being referred to as ‘High City’ (Jinnai, 1995, 11)
[Research Note] Yokohama : Homeless, Artists and the New Urban
This research note portrays the city Yokohama and its development, using the city as vantage point to understand the spatial and social transformation of this place and Japan as a whole. The research sheds light on vital issues in Japan’s urban history, including the opening to the west, the treaty port city system in Japan and the importance of everyday life for the identity and urban development of a city. Centred on the evolution of the historical significant inner city area, the tale of Yokohama is especially the story of a unique place, as Yokohama turned almost overnight from a quiet village into the focal point for Japanese modernization, port for global trading and birth place for new, western lifestyles. Using historic snapshots, biographic techniques and personal storytelling, this urban portray is rich in detail, offering new insights into the urbanization and changing urban landscape of cities in Japan, an area which is geographically, socially and culturally underrepresented in the existing literature

Knowledge Management of Games for Decision Making
Games for decision making have developed into a powerful tool for corporations. Irrespective of their size, corporations have been increasingly using these games in order to evaluate and ascertain impact-ful business decisions and strategies. Despite their proven added value to the decision making process, there is still lack of research on whether, and if so how, these games can be used by researchers and practitioners to build evidents on systems' behavior, as part of a larger scheme. To this effect, this paper proposes a framework to determine the different artifacts of games that should be logged and stored for future use.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Organisation & GovernancePolicy Analysi
