    Ignite: A Promotional Magazine for Liberty University

    For my senior thesis I received special permission to do a project instead of a paper. I named my magazine Ignite, and it is a promotional magazine. The magazine target audience is primarily high school juniors and seniors who are interested in attending Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. I completely designed the magazine from beginning to end, with the exception of the photographs. The photographs used are ones approved by the Liberty University Marketing Department that the author has permission to reprint. This way, if Liberty University decides to add this publication to their line of products the school already has the copyrights to the images. All graphic design elements and writings are the sole creation of the author. The goal of this magazine is to help Liberty University and to help prospective students as they are going through their college selection process. I want this magazine to be something that Liberty can use for years to come with bits of updating throughout the years as the school sees fit. I believe this magazine can be used to create interest in Liberty University and will be something that few other colleges can offer to students. It is something I would like to give back to the school for the experiences I have been blessed to have here

    Is T-Wave Alternans a Repolarization Abnormality Marker in COVID-19? An Investigation on the Potentialities of Portable Electrocardiogram Device

    Background: Cardiac arrhythmias are significantly associated with poor outcomes in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. Microvolt T-wave alternans (TWA) can be automatically quantified and has been recognized as a representation of repolarization hetero-geneity and linked to arrhythmogenesis in various cardiovascular dis-eases. This study aimed to explore the correlation between microvolt TWA and COVID-19 pathology. Methods: Patients suspected of COVID-19 in Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital were consecutively evaluated using Alivecor (R) Kar-diamobile 6LTM portable electrocardiogram (ECG) device. Severe COVID-19 patients or those who are unable to cooperate in active ECG self-recording were excluded from the study. TWA was detected and its amplitude was quantified using the novel enhanced adaptive match filter (EAMF) method. Results: A total of 175 patients, 114 COVID-19 patients (polymer-ase chain reaction (PCR)-positive group), and 61 non-COVID-19 pa -tients (PCR-negative group) were enrolled in the study. PCR-positive group was subdivided according to the severity of COVID-19 pathol-ogy into mild and moderate severity subgroups. Baseline TWA levels were similar between both groups during admission (42.47 +/- 26.52 mu V vs. 44.72 +/- 38.21 mu V), but higher TWA levels were observed during discharge in the PCR-positive compared to the PCR-negative group (53.45 +/- 34.42 mu V vs. 25.15 +/- 17.64 mu V, P = 0.03). The correlation between PCR-positive result in COVID-19 and TWA value was sig-nificant, after adjustment of other confounding variables (R2 = 0.081, P = 0.030). There was no significant difference in TWA levels between mild and moderate severity subgroups in patients with COVID-19, both during admission (44.29 +/- 27.14 mu V vs. 36.75 +/- 24.46 mu V, P = 0.34) and discharge (49.47 +/- 33.62 mu V vs. 61.09 +/- 35.99 mu V, P = 0.33). Conclusions: Higher TWA values can be observed on follow-up ECG obtained during discharge in the PCR-positive COVID-19 patients

    Reinforcer Preferences of Liberty University Professors

    Prior research in Organizational Behavior Management (OBM) has found positive reinforcement effective for increasing work performance when rewards are reinforcing to the individual. Research also supports the efficacy of stimulus preference assessments (SPAs) in identifying reinforcers. The purpose of this study was to identify reinforcers for faculty at Liberty University. The hypotheses were, in a sample of faculty in Liberty University’s School of Behavioral Sciences (1) potential reinforcers other than monetary reinforcers will be identified as high-preference items and (2) tangible items will be identified as low-preference items. Hypotheses were tested using an online survey with Likert scales and written response. The author concluded that the hypotheses were supported. Personal recognition and intentionality were also found to be highly valued

    ASSESS PREDIABETES RISK, AS A GOLDEN PERIOD FOR PREVENTION OF DIABETES

     Objective: Prediabetes is a high-risk condition for diabetes development and several other health outcomes later in life, but little is known about the factors associated with this condition. On the other hand, by predicting the risk of prediabetes, it is also a golden period for prevent or delay the diabetes conversion. The aim here was to assess the prevalence, risk factor that associated, and build a model to assess prediabetes risk.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Palembang, Indonesia. Data were collected during January until May 2016. We recruited adult age >15 years from 16 districts in Palembang. Anthropometric, demographic, and clinical history data were measured by standard methods. Capillary blood glucose was measured by finger prick test, followed by confirmatory oral glucose tolerance tests.Results: Of a total of 1241 participants, the prevalence of prediabetes was 27.8% (345 participants) and 72.2% (896 participants) and those were normal blood glucose. Employment, age, exercise, alcohol consumption, body mass index, systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, waist circumference, and hypercholesterol history were screened out as independent factors to build the prediction risk model.Conclusion: The prediabetes prediction model can be used easily and understood by health-related users to assess prediabetes risk. The intervention program, designed based on our prediabetes model to prevent or delay the conversion of prediabetes to diabetes in the population. The discovery of pharmacological therapies to prevent further conversion is needed.Â

    A weather related causal analysis on consolidated delay at Newark Liberty International Airport

    The closure of the European airspace due to the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull in 2010 proved a major challenge for airlines and aviation authorities on a global scale. In contrast, more seasonal adverse meteorological conditions afflict many airports in the northern eastern seaboard of the United States. Newark Liberty International Airport (KEWR) is a representative airport that endures severe weather based delays. This dissertation explores the utilisation of Bayesian Networks (BN) and heuristic analyses to investigate weather based delays at Newark Liberty International airport (KEWR). In particular, it aims to understand which weather variables (namely, precipitation, visibility and wind) have the most impact on weather based delays at KEWR in contrast to past studies that have studied more generic weather phenomena (e.g. thunderstorms) at the same airport. An analysis using temporal functionality with Bayesian Networks (BN) software and heuristic analyses was conducted. Data extracted from weather and aviation based websites was extracted using software. The quality of the information was cross referenced with official data sources and validated using BN tools. The results revealed a causal correlation chain between crosswinds above a certain threshold and high delays at KEWR at various points in the experimentation. Though other meteorological elements examined had an impact on delays, airport authorities and airlines can mitigate these factors to a certain scale using Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) approved technology and training. Consequently, the implications could be significant on existing FAA and regional policy with Ground Delay Program (GDP) and Noise Abatement Procedures (NAP). These policies can be profound and far reaching for airlines, in terms of operating procedures and fuel cost implications. These findings can further alter the balance between efficiency, public safety and airline costing affecting all major stakeholders as this dissertation will investigate
