No full textNel contesto di ripresa dell’emigrazione italiana in questi anni di crisi economica, l’articolo analizza i più recenti trasferimenti degli italiani a Malta con l’obiettivo di mettere in evidenza le dinamiche e le caratteristiche di questa migrazione. Dallo studio, che ha seguito un approccio qualitativo, emerge che essi sono per lo più lavoratori dipendenti nel settore turistico, nel commercio, nei servizi e nell’edilizia. I lavori svolti non sempre sono in linea con il titolo di studio conseguito, con le competenze maturate e con le aspirazioni. L’esperienza migratoria si traduce in un semplice vivere – non vi sono grossi risparmi, non vi è una reale crescita professionale. Nondimeno Malta offre una vita dignitosa a due passi da casa. In questo scenario, non vi sono progetti di rientro in un’Italia che si percepisce economicamente e politicamente immobile.In the context of the revival of Italian emigration in these years of economic crisis, the article analyses the recent movements of Italians to Malta with the aim of demonstrating the dynamics and characteristics of such movements. From this study, which followed a qualitative approach, it becomes apparent that they are mainly employees in the sectors of tourism, commerce, services and construction. Their employment does not always reflect their educational qualifications, experienced gained and aspirations. The migratory experience translates into simply living - there are not much savings and there is no real professional advancement. Nonetheless, Malta offers a dignified life very close to home. In this scenario, there are no plans to return to Italy, which is perceived as economically and politically stagnant

No full textSenza avere la pretesa di sistematicità e compiutezza, il presente lavoro analizza l'esperienza "oltre la nave" vissuta dal crocierista che approda nella città di Cagliari, destinazione emergente nel panorama delle crociere nel Mediterraneo. L'obiettivo è fare una riflessione sulle caratteristiche della visita a terra, in particolar modo sulla sua geografia e sulle ricadute che vi si associano per il settore turistico cittadino. Ove possibile, ci cercherà di fornire altresì alcune indicazioni generali per le policy volte al miglioramento dell'accoglienza ai crocieristi. Nel contributo viene dapprima tracciato un quadro dell'evoluzione dei flussi di navi da crociera nel porto di Cagliari, anche in relazione a quanto accade nel contesto del Mediterraneo, per poi passare all'analisi della visita a terra e alle considerazioni di carattere più generale che se ne possono ricavare
Italian retirement migration: stories from Bulgaria
Full text linkThe geography of international retirement migration is constantly changing with the rise of new countries of origin and destination. The latter are often peripheral, lower-cost countries at various latitudes of the world. New actors are also emerging, like pension-poor Westerners with economic constraints who seek suitable locations to enhance their standard of living. This paper is set within this context and studies the recent emigration of Italian pensioners to Bulgaria. By using narratives from interviews carried out with 25 retirees who have recently relocated to this country, the paper addresses two questions. The first relates to the main reason for relocation, while the second concerns the balance of their life in Bulgaria. Study results highlight that the main motivation for the relocation was the financial constraint they were living under in Italy. However, for some of them, in addition to this, another motivator related to the emotional, personal problems they were facing. A novel aspect of this study relates to the outcomes illustrating that, beyond the improvement of their standard of living, for most of the participants the relocation provided a way to reacquire intergenerational practices with regard to family duties (e.g. to economically sustain children left in Italy). While the overall balance of their life in Bulgaria is positive, the partial social integration due to the strong language barrier renders their stay in this country improbable, as they approach the fourth age
