Inferred IOP and particulate matter from MERIS and MODIS multi-spectral satellite images

How to accurately determine and quantify particulate and dissolved matters at the water surface in coastal areas (case 2 waters) using passive ocean colour remote sensing is still a topical issue. The best actual models, like the OC5 algorithm from Gohin et al., 2002, are empirical, and usually restricted to a limited area; hence the need to gather numerous oceanographic data is strong. To improve our understanding of in-water radiation law, we tested a numerical bio-optical model with several components including bottom reflectance. The software called WASI (Water Colour Simulator) was developed by Peter Gege (Gege, 2004) and integrates forward and inverse modelling for eight common types of optical in-situ measurements in aquatic environments (in particular remote sensing reflectance, absorption or attenuation), using well-established analytical models. In forward mode, it simulates reflectance spectra using the IOP or the particulate and dissolved matters. In inverse mode, an input hyperspectral reflectance spectra measured with a spectro-radiometer is analyzed by fitting iteratively possible reflectance curves under constraints on some bio-optical parameters (simplex method) so as to provide the IOP and the particle concentrations. We used in-situ data acquired during the oceanographic mission OPTIC-CONGO (Gulf of Guinea) to evaluate the accuracy of the model results. The substance concentrations derived by the WASI model were compared with the in-situ measurements and the results are encouraging (Schmeltz et al., 2009). To apply this inversion to satellite data from MODIS (NASA) or ENVISAT/MERIS (ESA), we developed a multiple regression program adapted from Wernand (1997) to reconstruct hyperspectral reflectances from the multi-spectral satellite channels (10 bands for MODIS and 15 bands for MERIS). These reconstructed spectra are inverted in WASI to obtain the IOP and substances concentrations

Mohammed K El Mallah1, Molly M Walsh2, Sandra S Stinnett2, Sanjay G Asrani21Ocala Eye, Ocala, Florida, USA; 2Duke University Eye Center, Durham, North Carolina, USAPurpose: To evaluate the effect of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) in normal tension glaucoma (NTG) patients.Patients and methods: A retrospective review was performed of NTG patients who had undergone SLT at the Duke University Eye Center between 12/2002 and 7/2005. For each eye of each patient at pre-laser and post-laser time points, the IOP measurements were summarized by mean, standard deviation, and range. Then for each of these descriptive statistics, the differences between pre-laser and post-laser values were obtained. Statistical analysis was performed using a random effects model. Main outcome measures: difference in mean IOP, standard deviation of IOP, and range of IOP.Results: Thirty-one eyes of 18 patients were included for analysis. The average of the mean pre-operative IOP measurements was 14.3 ± 2.6 mmHg compared to 12.2 ± 1.7 mmHg (P < 0.001) post-operatively. The mean pre-operative standard deviation was 1.9 ± 0.9 mmHg compared to 1.0 ± 0.6 mmHg (P = 0.002) post-operatively while the mean IOP range prior to treatment was 4.5 ± 2.5 mmHg compared to 2.5 ± 1.9 mmHg (P = 0.017) after treatment. Conclusion: In this pilot study, SLT was found to lower mean IOP and intervisit IOP variation in NTG patients. Given the importance of IOP variation and its association with glaucoma progression, measurement of IOP variation following treatment with SLT may be considered. Keywords: SLT, NTG, laser, glaucom

The IOP – The Institute of Printing (Asia-Pacific)

Major (NS) Wong became the newly-elected president of the Institute of Printing (IOP) on 23 March 2001. He felt that the IOP - the Asia Pacific's professional body for printers and those in related trades - could contribute more than it was doing to the Singapore printing industry, especially in terms of manpower skills development. Although Major (NS) Wong had vaguely identified vocational training as a niche service that the IOP could provide leadership in, he also found himself wondering if the IOP might not play other roles within the industry. As the new executive committee was scheduled to meet in a month's time, Major Wong needed to firm up his strategies fast

The Role of IOP in Glaucoma (Video)

That IOP is intricately linked with primary open-angle glaucoma is well established. A historical perspective on the evolving role of IOP as synonymous with glaucoma to being a risk factor for glaucoma is explored. The predictive ability of IOP as a risk factor for POAG is calculated and compared with risk factors for cardiovascular disease, a disease for which there exists considerable data

PHARMACOLOGICAL BASIS OF INCREASED INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE THERAPY

PHARMACOLOGICAL BASIS OF INCREASED INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE THERAPY Prof. Dr. Zoltán Szilvássy, MD., PhD., DSc Prof. Dr. Róbert Pórszász, MD., PhD., MBA, MSc Increased intraocular pressure is a common feature of several ocular diseases such as: glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and others. The prevalence of IOP varies significantly worldwide, with a higher incidence reported in older populations. The burden of IOP-related ocular diseases such as glaucoma is expected to increase as the global population ages, making early detection and management of IOP more important than ever. High IOP can damage the optic nerve and lead to permanent vision loss. Therefore, controlling IOP is a key strategy in the management of these diseases. In this composition I will cover some of the most popular pharmacological treatment of IOP. The current pharmacological armamentarium includes topical medications, oral medications, and injectable drugs. These drugs work by reducing aqueous humor production, increasing aqueous humor drainage, or both. The choice of medication depends on the individual patient's condition, tolerability, and other factors. While pharmacological treatment is effective in reducing IOP, long-term use of these medications may be associated with adverse effects. Thus, it is important to monitor patients for any drug-related side effects and adjust the treatment accordingly.egységes, osztatlanáltalános orvosango
