Thermal Convection of a Water-Based Nanofluid in an Enclosure With an Oscillating Wall

    No full text
The effects of oscillatory flows on convective heat transfer in an enclosure filled with a water based nanofluid (water with Al2O3 particles) are investigated. The fluid motion is driven by the periodic vibration of the enclosure left wall. The vertical walls of the enclosure are adiabatic while the horizontal walls are heated differentially. A control-volume method based, explicit time-marching Flux-Corrected Transport (FCT) Algorithm is used to simulate the transport phenomena in the enclosure. The oscillatory fluid motion significantly enhances overall heat transfer from the bottom wall compared to pure conduction. The author gratefully acknowledges the financial support for this work received from NATO Science for Peace and Security Program, Collaborative Linkage Grant # CBP.NUKR.CLG.983749.NATO Science for Peace and Security Program [CBP.NUKR.CLG.983749]Int Assoc Engineers, IAENG, Soc Artificial Intelligence, IAENG, Soc Bioinformat, IAENG, Soc Computer Sci, IAENG, Soc Data Min, IAENG, Soc Elect Engn, IAENG, Soc Imagl Engn, IAENG, Soc Ind Engn, IAENG, Soc Informat Syst Engn, IAENG, Soc Internet Comput ; Web Serv, IAENG, Soc Mech Engn, IAENG, Soc Operat Res, IAENG, Soc Sci Comput, IAENG, Soc Software Engn, IAENG, Soc Wireless Eng

World Congress on Engineering (WCE 2011) -- JUL 06-08, 2011 -- Imperial Coll, London, UNITED KINGDOMThe paper presents detection and classification of rotor bar faults at steady state operation in squirrel cage induction motor by using power factor. One phase current and voltage of the stator coils were used to calculate the power factor. To investigate effects of rotor faults on the power factor, its frequency spectrum was obtained by fast Fourier Transform (FFT). Significant picks in the spectrum were used to discern "healthy" and "faulty" motor conditions. The motor conditions were classified by Artificial Neural Network (ANN). In experiments three different rotor faults and healthy motor conditions were investigated by 30 HP, 8", with 18 bars, 380V, 2 poles and 50 Hz squirrel cage submersible induction motor. The proposed decision structure detects and classifies rotor bar faults with 100% accuracy.Int Assoc Engineers, IAENG, Soc Artificial Intelligence, IAENG, Soc Bioinformat, IAENG, Soc Computer Sci, IAENG, Soc Data Min, IAENG, Soc Elect Engn, IAENG, Soc Imagl Engn, IAENG, Soc Ind Engn, IAENG, Soc Informat Syst Engn, IAENG, Soc Internet Comput & Web Serv, IAENG, Soc Mech Engn, IAENG, Soc Operat Res, IAENG, Soc Sci Comput, IAENG, Soc Software Engn, IAENG, Soc Wireless EngnScientific Research Project of Selcuk UniversitySelcuk UniversityThe study has been supported by Scientific Research Project of Selcuk University

World Congress on Engineering (WCE 2011) -- JUL 06-08, 2011 -- Imperial Coll, London, UNITED KINGDOMThe Burger-Fisher equations occur in various areas of applied sciences and physical applications, such as modeling of gas dynamics, financial mathematics and fluid mechanics. In this paper, this equation has been solved by using a different numerical approach that shows rather rapid convergence than other methods. Illustrative examples suggest that it is a powerful series approach to find numerical solutions of Burger-Fisher equations.Int Assoc Engineers, IAENG, Soc Artificial Intelligence, IAENG, Soc Bioinformat, IAENG, Soc Computer Sci, IAENG, Soc Data Min, IAENG, Soc Elect Engn, IAENG, Soc Imagl Engn, IAENG, Soc Ind Engn, IAENG, Soc Informat Syst Engn, IAENG, Soc Internet Comput & Web Serv, IAENG, Soc Mech Engn, IAENG, Soc Operat Res, IAENG, Soc Sci Comput, IAENG, Soc Software Engn, IAENG, Soc Wireless Eng

International Multi-Conference of Engineers and Computer Scientists -- MAR 18-20, 2009 -- Kowloon, PEOPLES R CHINAIn this paper an experimental study of classification and diagnosis of different number of broken rotor bars and broken end-ring in the three-phase squirrel cage induction motors is presented. Six different faulted rotors are investigated. These faults are one, two, three broken bars, broken end-ring, a bar with high resistance and healthy rotor. The base structure of the study consist of current signal analysis (CSA), feature extraction, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and diagnosis algorithm. The motor current signal is used for obtaining of effects of broken bars and end-ring in the rotor. To get sight of the effects the current signal that is in the time domain is transformed time-frequency domain via Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT). And the spectrums are averaged and normalized on the time axis. The rotor cage faults are classified with ANN by using these spectrums. And result matrixes of ANN are considered improved decision structure. Thus the faulted rotors are diagnosed at 100% accuracy and classified 98,33% accuracy.Int Assoc Engineers, IAENG, Soc Artificial Intelligence, IAENG, Soc Bioinformat, IAENG, Soc Comp Sci, IAENG, Soc Data Min, IAENG, Soc Elect Engn, IAENG, Soc Imaging Engn, IAENG, Soc Ind Engn, IAENG, Soc Informat Syst Engn, IAENG, Soc Internet Comp & Web Serv, IAENG, Soc Mech Engn, IAENG, Soc Operat Res, IAENG, Soc Sci Comp, IAENG, Soc Software Engn, IAENG, Soc Wireless Network

A Novel Topology for Multilevel Inverter with Reduced Number of Switches

    No full text
World Congress on Engineering and Computer Science -- OCT 23-25, 2013 -- San Francisco, CAMultilevel inverter is energy conversion device that is generally used in medium-voltage and high-power applications. It offers lower total harmonic distortion, switching losses and voltage stress on switches than conventional inverter. In this paper, a novel multilevel inverter topology with the decreased number of power switches is proposed, and its modulation technique is introduced. This multilevel inverter structure consists of the level module units to enhance the level of the output voltage. Since a level module unit consists of only a DC voltage source and a bidirectional switch, this structure allows a reduction of the system cost and size. Effectiveness of the proposed topology has been demonstrated by analysis and simulation.IAENG, Soc Artificial Intelligence, IAENG, Soc Bioinformat, IAENG, Soc Comp Sci, IAENG, Soc Data Mining, IAENG, Soc Elect Engn, IAENG, Soc HIV AIDS, IAENG, Soc Imaging Engn, IAENG, Soc Ind Engn, IAENG, Soc Informat Syst Engn, IAENG, Soc Internet Comp & Web Serv, IAENG, Soc Mech Engn, IAENG, Soc Operat Res, IAENG, Soc Sci Comp, IAENG, Soc Software Engn, IAENG, Soc Wireless Network

The Selection of Renewable Energy Power Plant Technology Using Fuzzy Data Envelopment Analysis

    No full text
World Congress on Engineering (WCE 2011) -- JUL 06-08, 2011 -- Imperial Coll, London, UNITED KINGDOMThe efficiency of resource utilization and sustainabfiity are rising values all over the world. Power generation technologies have an important weight in this manner for a sustainable future. Particularly, renewable energy power technologies should take over the non-renewable power generation technologies when considered on environmental issues. However it is too far to substitute renewable onto non-renewable as for now. At this point, there is another issue for choosing the best yet suitable alternative technology. The selection problem is a difficult multi-criteria decision making problem in many fields as well as in the selection of power generation technology. This paper proposed a data envelopment analysis model approach by using triangular fuzzy numbers (TFN) as the solution. Six different technologies were used as the decision making units (DMU). Inputs and outputs variables were selected in general indicators such as economical and technical. It was showed that policy and decision makers could follow this methodology to produce effective solution for energy generation problems.Int Assoc Engineers, IAENG, Soc Artificial Intelligence, IAENG, Soc Bioinformat, IAENG, Soc Computer Sci, IAENG, Soc Data Min, IAENG, Soc Elect Engn, IAENG, Soc Imagl Engn, IAENG, Soc Ind Engn, IAENG, Soc Informat Syst Engn, IAENG, Soc Internet Comput & Web Serv, IAENG, Soc Mech Engn, IAENG, Soc Operat Res, IAENG, Soc Sci Comput, IAENG, Soc Software Engn, IAENG, Soc Wireless EngnSelcuk University Scientific Research Coordination Centre (BAP)This work was supported by the Selcuk University Scientific Research Coordination Centre (BAP)
