Manthos Ioannou, Storia della sciagura e schiavitù della Morea. Testo, commento e glossario

    No full text

Effects of reclaimed asphalt and warm mix asphalt on the availability of the road network

This repot reviews the EARN project, which was undertaken under CEDR Call2012 in order to investigate the effects of using reclaimed asphalt (RA) and/or lower temperature asphalt on the road network. The work consisted of a review of existing data on service lifetime and availability of road materials and structures, a site trial to evaluate varying proportions of RA, experimental evaluation of moisture damage and ageing in asphalt mixtures and development of an impact assessment model. The site trial involved four different mixtures containing varying proportions of RA and warm mix additive and was monitored for international roughness index, mean profile depth, corrected SCRIM Coefficient, indirect stiffness modulus, water sensitivity and indirect tensile strength, the latter with and without artificial ageing. The monitoring was extended to 40 months with two extensions to the project, when monitoring of the binder mechanical and other properties were also made.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Pavement Engineerin

Impact of synthetic fibres on asphalt concrete mix

    No full text
The use of synthetic fibres has been reported to enhance the performance of asphalt pavement materials in terms of permanent deformation, fatigue and thermal cracking. However, limited results about the benefits of synthetic fibres in the reinforced warm-mix asphaltic materials, and the exact mechanism of reinforcing the binding part in pavement structures is still unclear. In this contribution, a semi-circular bending test was per-formed by using various fibre amounts as well as fibre length inside the bituminous mix. The results indicate that the inclusion of fibre can improves the warm-mix performance. Tensile strength as the first criterion is en-hanced proportionally by increasing fibre dosage. The reinforcing effect brought by 38-mm fibre is higher than the one with 19-mm.Pavement Engineerin

The CMS Level-1 Trigger Barrel Track Finder

    No full text
The design and performance of the upgraded CMS Level-1 Trigger Barrel Muon Track Finder (BMTF) is presented. Monte Carlo simulation data as well as cosmic ray data from a CMS muon detector slice test have been used to study in detail the performance of the new track finder. The design architecture is based on twelve MP7 cards each of which uses a Xilinx Virtex-7 FPGA and can receive and transmit data at 10 Gbps from 72 input and 72 output fibers. According to the CMS Trigger Upgrade TDR the BMTF receives trigger primitive data which are computed using both RPC and DT data and transmits data from a number of muon candidates to the upgraded Global Muon Trigger. Results from detailed studies of comparisons between the BMTF algorithm results and the results of a C++ emulator are also presented. The new BMTF will be commissioned for data taking in 2016

DarkSide-20k: Next generation Direct Dark Matter searches with liquid Argon

    No full text
DarkSide-20k is a next-generation dual-phase Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber, currently under construction at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) in Italy. With a 20 t fiducial mass of liquid Argon, DarkSide-20k will probe WIMP-nucleon interactions down to cross sections equal to 1048^{-48} cm2^2 for a WIMP mass of 0.1 TeV/c2^2. DarkSide-20k is designed to be a nearly instrumental background-free experiment, meaning that less than 0.1 background events are expected in the WIMP search region during the 200 tonne-year planned exposure. To achieve this, the TPC is surrounded by an inner (neutron) and outer (muon) veto, while low-radioactivity underground argon (depleted in 39^{39}Ar), is used as the inner detector (TPC and inner veto) medium. Both the TPC and the veto systems are instrumented with novel cryogenic silicon photomultiplier, capable of resolving single photoelectrons and providing the required spatial and time resolution. An overview of the DarkSide-20k experimental program is reported, with a focus on the photo-detector system construction and testing procedures for the inner veto system.7 pages, 6 Figure

Phosphorus and potassium recovery from anaerobically digested olive mill wastewater using modified zeolite, fly ash and zeolitic fly ash: a comparative study

BACKGROUND: Nutrient recovery fromwastewater is gaining attention in the frame of circular economy. In this study, Ca(OH)2-treated zeolite (CaT-Z), lignite fly ash (FA) and zeolitic fly ash (ZFA) were primarily used to adsorb phosphate phosphorus (PO4-P) from anaerobically digested olivemillwastewater (ADOMW). The simultaneous recovery of potassium (K)was also examined based on adsorption and desorption data. The fractionation of adsorbed P was determined as an important parameter for its plant availability. RESULTS:MorePwasadsorbedfromADOMWonZFAandFA(upto4.35and5.21 mg g−1, respectively)thanonCaT-Z (2.62 mg g−1). An increased P adsorption on ZFA and FA was observed between incubation times of 7 and 14 days. The sequential desorption procedure verified the trend of P adsorption capacities and showed that the plant-available P (NaHCO3-P) amounted to 1.34, 2.34 and 1.69 mg g−1 CaT-Z, ZFA and FA, respectively. After 14 days, CaT-Z and ZFA adsorbed much more K (19.2 and 20.5 mg g−1, respectively) than FA (4.3mg g−1). The desorption of exchangeable K confirmed this difference. Scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive spectrometry analyses indicated P adsorption and surface precipitation as Ca–P phases as well as K+ for Ca2+ ion exchange on the loaded adsorbents. CONCLUSIONS: ZFA was more efficient for dual adsorption combining the properties of the zeolitic fraction (enhanced K adsorption) and pristine FA (P adsorption on Ca-bearing phases). The sufficient concentrations of plant-available P and K on the three adsorbents suggest their potential use as soil amendments

Energy Policy Dynamics in the European Parliament and in the Lithuanian Seimas

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to apply punctuated equilibrium theory to better understand the development of energy policies in the European Parliament and in the Lithuanian Parliament – Seimas. In the first empirical chapter I analyze written questions that members of the European Parliament submitted to the EU Commission to study whether members of the European Parliament respond to punctuating events such as the Fukushima nuclear accident. I also study party groupings in the European Parliament to evaluate how punctuating events alter the policy behavior and priorities of these party groupings. In the second empirical chapter I analyze whether political parties in Lithuanian Seimas also respond to the same punctuating events
