    LAUREA MAGISTRALELa tesi risponde al concorso EUROPAN 15. La sfida è quella di progettare per la sede del design Visserijplein, localizzato nel cuore dei distretti di Bospolder e Tussendijken (BoTu) nella parte orientale di Rotterdam, un blocco multifunzionale all’interno di un quartiere multiculturale e vulnerabile, incorporare il mercato locale e offrire spazio alle nuove forme di vita: incontro, apprendimento, creazione, gioco e lavoro – analogicamente introducendo anche dei nuovi concetti come la Biblioteca del futuro. L'obiettivo è dare alla zona un impulso socioeconomico. In questa posizione centrale si cerca di incentivare una serie di progetti abitativi, pubblici e culturali, spazi per le imprese locali e un luogo in cui i giovani possano far crescere i propri talenti. Il progetto si concentra sul tema della rivitalizzazione: la necessità di progettare una serie di azioni per aiutare questo distretto vulnerabile di Rotterdam a fare un passo avanti in termini socioeconomici. La parola "Gezelligheid" che ha usato nel titolo è una parola olandese che può essere tradotta come "convivialità", "intimità", "divertimento". Viene spesso usata per descrivere una situazione sociale e rilassata. Può anche indicare appartenenza, tempo trascorso con i propri cari, mettersi al passo con un vecchio amico o semplicemente l'unione generale che dà alle persone una calda sensazione. Un tratto comune a tutte le descrizioni di gezelligheid è una sensazione generale e astratta di benessere individuale che si condivide in genere con gli altri. Tutte le descrizioni coinvolgono un'atmosfera, un flusso o un'atmosfera positiva che colora l'esperienza personale individuale in modo favorevole e in un modo o nell'altro corrisponde ai contesti sociali. Essendo una vaga, astratta nozione, la parola è considerata da alcuni come un esempio di non traducibilità e una delle loro parole più difficili da tradurre in inglese. Alcuni considerano la parola per racchiudere il cuore della cultura olandese. Il concetto del progetto mira a risolvere i veri problemi locali in modo resiliente e cercare di rendere il luogo più umile e armonioso per l'area BOTU. Applicando la strategia di resilienza di Rotterdam, i quartieri hanno reti interconnesse di percorsi e relazioni. Non sono separati in nette categorie di utilizzo, tipo o percorso, che li renderebbero vulnerabili al fallimento. Hanno diversità e ridondanza di attività, tipi, obiettivi e popolazioni. Ci sono persone diverse che fanno attività diverse, ognuna delle quali potrebbe fornire la chiave per convivenza nel sistema. Il progetto rispetta anche lo stile di vita tradizionale e la tipologia edilizia di Rotterdam. Così il progetto, ideato per la comunità BOTU, tocca le nozioni primarie del raduno, creando un luogo per la ricreazione passiva e attiva garantendo al contempo una casa per la natura nella comunità in rapida crescita.The thesis responds to the competition EUROPAN 15. The challenge for the design location Visserijplein at the heart of the Bospolder and Tussendijken (BoTu) districts in the east of Rotterdam is to design a multifunctional building block in the heart of a multicultural, vulnerable neighbourhood, incorporating the local market and providing space for new forms of living, meeting, learning, making, playing and working – by the analogy of new concepts like the Library of the Future. The aim is to give the area a socioeconomic boost. A combination of housing, public and cultural programmes, space for local businesses and a place where young people can grow their talents is desired at this central location. The project prefers to focus on the aspect of the challenge: the need to design a process and programme to help this vulnerable district of Rotterdam take a step forward in socioeconomic terms. The word ‘Gezelligheid’ which used in the title is a Dutch word which can be translated as 'conviviality', 'cosiness', 'fun'. It is often used to describe a social and relaxed situation. It can also indicate belonging, time spent with loved ones, catching up with an old friend or just the general togetherness that gives people a warm feeling. A common trait to all descriptions of gezelligheid is a general and abstract sensation of individual well-being that one typically shares with others. All descriptions involve a positive atmosphere, flow or vibe that colours the individual personal experience in a favourable way and in one way or another corresponds to social contexts. Being a vague, abstract notion, the word is considered by some to be an example of untranslatability, and one of their hardest words to translate to English. Some consider the word to encompass the heart of Dutch culture. The design concept and solution are aiming to solve the real local-problems in a resilence way and try to make the place more humble and harmonious for the BOTU area. Applying the Rotterdam resilience strategy, the neighbourhoods have interconnected networks of pathways and relationships. They are not segregated into neat categories of use, type, or pathway, which would make them vulnerable to failure. They have diversity and redundancy of activities, types, objectives, and populations. There are many different kinds of people doing many different kinds of things. The project also respects the traditional lifestyle and building-typology of Rotterdam. Like, it is designed for BOTU community, the complex touches upon the primal notions of gathering, creating a venue for passive and active recreation while ensuring a home for nature in the rapidly growing community

    LAUREA MAGISTRALEIl progetto si trova nel cuore della popolazione giovanile di Botu, Rotterdam, in una posizione particolare che prospera nella mentalità multiculturale e di talento dei giovani, in cui richiedono una posizione centrale in cui poter esporre e il pubblico possa esplorare, i loro talenti e prodotti. la proposta è un blocco multifunzionale che ospita sia spazi residenziali che commerciali, creando un hub centrale che ispira l'innovazione e l'apprendimento, migliorando al contempo l'aspetto socioeconomico tanto necessario di una posizione vulnerabile, istituito dal governo locale. futuro, l'ambiente che crea, questo progetto può promuovere un aspetto più sano del vicinato sia fisico che mentale, nonché incorporare le infrastrutture necessarie per assistere le nuove generazioni nel loro futuro sviluppo economico e culturale.The project is located in the heart of the youth population in Botu, Rotterdam. This particular location thrives on the youths' multicultural, talented mindset, where they require a central location where they could exhibit and public could explore, their talents and products. Our proposal is a multifunctional building block that houses both residential and commercial spaces, creating a central hub that inspires innovation and learning while boosting the much needed socio-economic aspect of a vulnerable location, set out by the local government. Inspired by the library of the future, the environment that it creates, this project can promote a healthier aspect of the neighborhood both physical and mental as well as incorporating much-needed infrastructure that can assist the new generation for their future economic and cultural development

    Resilient governance during crises: COVID-19 in community BoTu Rotterdam

    Due to the current pandemic caused by COVID-19, its impact has again become clear that resilience is essential within cities and communities. An important aspect of this community resilience is the relationship between local institutions and local communities. To discover how this dynamic between formal and informal actors, and networks changes during crises, a literature study was done to find out how community resilience can be facilitated. From this study a conceptual framework for the facilitation of resilience was created. An exploratory case study was done of the community BoTu Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, to research in which extent a resilient attitude is embodied by local institutions in cooperation with local communities and validate the framework. Through resilient governance and community leadership, social capital can be enabled and activated to allow problem-solving within a community, fostering greater resilience within communities. Moreover, formal and informal actors made role switches to fulfil a useful function in the community. These role changes were facilitated or frustrated by several factors, ranging from absence or presence of formal actors, social network access or lack thereof and digital resources.Complex Systems Engineering and Management (CoSEM

    To provide the current population of Bospolder - Tussendijken with a future perspective that tackles socio-demographic issues, they create Phase Change Material (PCM) Modules of waste products Frying oil and Mg2+ in the cooperative factory: 'Frituurfabriek' in the M4H. They have the opportunity to participate in society, to become owner of a factory, to earn salary and to bring back home the modules to sustain their homes. The accessible production process for this circular passive cooling element for housing renovations allows great crafts and educational development for the people. It attracts a wider public than pure the workers, since there is also a community centre, additional workshops and an extension of the BoTu neighbourhood, located on top of the factory. As a showcase this is designed as a full PCM building; no insulation but PCM ensures consistent interior climate. All together, this social concept of emancipating the population is tohave social impact by low-tech innovation, it relinks the historic M4H and BoTu relation and offers an alternative concept for architecture an (conservative) use of finite material use as sand.Architecture, Urbanism and Building Science

    This paper studies how residents in the neighbourhood Bospolder-Tussendijken (BoTu) have dealt with the COVID-19 restrictions. Prior to the pandemic, significant investments in community-building were made to increase resilience of individuals and communities in BoTu. This paper identifies the key assets BoTu residents had developed and actually during this ultimate challenge. Interviews with formal and informal actors in BoTu revealed that community leadership, engaged governance, problem-solving ability, and information sharing environment were essential to adequately respond to the crisis, and were successfully deployed.     O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito da adição da asolctina de soja ou da fosfatidilcolina de soja em diluente à base de gema de ovo sobre os parâmetros espermáticos e índices de fertilidade de sêmen congelado de garanhões. No Experimento I, dezenove ejaculados de três garanhões foram submetidos ao processo de criopreservação utilizando três diluentes de congelação: Botu-Crio® (BC), Botu-Crio® adicionado de asolctina de soja (BC+Ac) e Botu-Crio® adicionado de fosfatidilcolina de soja (BC+Fc), para posterior avaliação dos parâmetros de cinética espermática e integridade de membrana plasmática. No Experimento II, comparou-se a taxa de fertilidade referente aos três meios de congelação por meio de inseminação artificial das éguas com “pool” de espermatozoides dos três garanhões. Não houve diferença significativa no que se refere aos parâmetros espermáticos (P0,05) taxa de fertilidade do diluente Botu-Crio® quando comparado ao meio adicionado de asolctina de soja. Diante dos resultados encontrados, conclui-se que tanto a adição da asolctina de soja quanto da fosfatidilcolina de soja ao diluente Botu-Crio® apresenta a mesma eficácia que o diluente Botu-Crio® convencional na criopreservação de sêmen equinoThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of addition of soybean asolectin and phosphatidylcholine in an egg yolk-based extender on sperm parameters and fertility rates of frozen stallion semen. In Experiment II, the fertility rates from the three freezing extenders were compared through artificial insemination in mares using a sperm “pool” of three stallions. No significant differences were found on sperm parameters (P0.05) fertility rates in Botu-Crio™ (BC) freezing extender than the freezing extender containing soybean asolectin (BC + Ac).
