A new analytic method for IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function

    No full text
In this paper, we consider a network of N identical IEEE 802.11 DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) terminals with RTS/CTS mechanism, each of which is assumed to be saturated. For performance analysis, we propose a simple and efficient mathematical model to derive the statistical characteristics of the network such as the inter-transmission time of packets in the network and the service time (the inter-transmission time of successful packet transmissions) of the network. Numerical results and simulations are provided to validate the accuracy of our model and to study the performance of the IEEE 802.11 DCF network. The first author’s work was supported by the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation(KOSEF) grant funded by the Korea government(MOST) (No. R01-2007-000-20053-0)

Not like my mother : truth and the author in creative nonfiction

    No full text
This exegesis examines how a writer can effectively negotiate the relationship between author, character, fact and truth, in a work of Creative Nonfiction. It was found that individual truths, in a work of Creative Nonfiction, are not necessarily universal truths due to individual, cultural, historical and religious circumstances. What was also identified, through the examination of published Creative Nonfiction, is a necessity to ensure there are clear demarcation lines between authorial truth and fiction. The Creative Nonfiction works examined, which established this framework for the reader, ensured an ethical relationship between author and audience. These strategies and frameworks were then applied to my own Creative Nonfiction

2022 Spring.Colorado State University Art and Art History Department capstone project.Capstone contains the artist's statement, a list of works, and images of works. The artist's statement: Art has been changed over the many years since its existence just as my view and work is constantly being changed as well. As my years went on in college, my art has gone from being something that I thought needed to be a specific way, to something that became more of an expression of myself. Making decisions on my ideas while pushing further to analyze the work I was putting out; learning as I went. Graphic design is my professional focus because I believe good design can help the world run smoothly. Being able to get information to a society that is so distracted is a great challenge and I enjoy it greatly. My design focus is around brand identity, apparel and logo design because I see these designs as the most used and recognizable. I love seeing my work bring joy to others through the company I made it for, or a person wearing a comfy t-shirt I designed

The author submitted this entry in the Open Verse Poetry category (Amateur division) for the 2024 On My Own Time (OMOT) Art Show.My inspiration for writing the poem "My Queen" was to model writing elegy poetry for my 7th grade ELA students. My mother had recently passed away and I decided it would be an honorable memory. I didn't have a lot of time to fully process the reality of life without her nor really grieve, because I had a main role in preparing as well as participating in her funeral services, and afterwards, I could not take more time off from work. Writing this poem was very therapeutic for me, and even more so when I read it aloud in class to my students. When I finished reading it, the entire class gave me a standing ovation and many of them (including me) were visibly filled with raw emotions (tears). When they completed their elegy poetry, it was very apparent that my previous moment of transparency had quite a positive influence on their commitment to produce amazing heart-warming poetry

My Green Pet: A current-based interactive plant for children

    No full text
The difficulty that children have in perceiving plants as living entities has been verified by several studies. As an initial attempt to address this issue, we propose \"My Green Pet\", an interactive plant for children. Through this, children enjoy human-like interactions with the plant and also perceive that this particular plant is living. This is achieved by personifying a regular plant by giving it human feelings and emotions, such as pain, joy, laughter, etc. The interactive plant is implemented over a current-based framework, which enables it to recognize multiple gestures and give audio and visual feedback to the user. The effectiveness of the interactive plant on the conception of plants on children was studied with a simple user test. We observed the children interacting with \"My Green Pet\" and noticed interactions resembling those between people. We also noticed the children being increasingly curious about the plant, resulting in spending more time with \"My Green Pet\". A straight-forward questionnaire done by children revealed that the children's perception of life in plants greatly differed after showing \"My Green Pet\". Copyright 2010 ACM
