Hydrogeologic Investigations of the Trinity Aquifers in Western Travis County along a Portion of Lake Travis and a Transect from Northern Hays County to Bell County, Central Texas
The Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District (BSEACD), in cooperation with Travis County, compiled existing and new hydrogeologic data to evaluate groundwater resources in central Texas. Analysis and interpretation of these data provide the foundation for hydrogeologic evaluations presented in the Hydrogeologic Atlas of Southwest Travis County, Central Texas (Hunt et al., 2020). The Atlas describes the hydrogeologic framework, aquifer conditions, and conceptual model of the Middle and Lower Trinity Aquifers in Hays and southwestern Travis County (SWTC). This report presents the continuation of the hydrogeologic studies in cooperation with Travis County. The studies described in this report help characterize two important hydrogeologic aspects identified in the Atlas of Hunt et al. (2020) that warranted additional investigation. A geologic cross section presented in the Atlas (Hunt et al., 2020) was extended north of the Colorado River into Bell County (Figure 1; C-C’-C”). The goal was to better characterize the hydrogeologic relationship between areas of drawdown observed within western Travis County and the significant drawdown experienced over the last 100 years in the northern Trinity Aquifer. Results indicate that more water-level data are needed in Williamson County, and in particular for the Lower Trinity; however, the drawdown observed in western Travis County appears to be consistent with regional drawdown throughout the northern Middle Trinity Aquifer.
This information has important implications for the conceptual model of the Trinity Aquifer and for long-term groundwater availability of the region and lays the foundation for future work in the region

Pogue Springs Dye Trace Report, Western Travis County, Texas
This technical report details a dye trace study conducted in and around Milton Reimers Ranch Park, western Travis County, Texas, initiated in April 2024. The study’s primary objective was to refine the existing conceptual hydrogeologic model of the Middle Trinity Aquifer, specifically within the Pogue Creek Watershed. This effort is crucial for developing regulatory and conservation strategies to preserve the diminishing groundwater levels and springflow in the region, which are threatened by persistent drought and excessive groundwater pumping. We injected three distinct fluorescent dyes—fluorescein, rhodamine WT, and eosine—at three sites within the Pogue Creek watershed: a natural recharge feature (swallet) and two wells. Dye monitoring occurred at 12 spring, stream, and well locations across four watersheds, primarily using activated charcoal detectors and, in some cases, field fluorimeters. The study aimed to delineate local springsheds by testing if groundwater from the Pogue Creek Watershed flows exclusively to Pogue Spring or also to springs in neighboring watersheds. Results indicate successful detection of only one dye, eosine, injected into the Reimers Park Abandoned Windmill Well. This dye was detected at Pogue Spring, located approximately 594 feet away, between 116 and 156 days post-injection, and has persisted for at least 150 days. Therefore, the estimated average groundwater velocity between the injection well and Pogue Spring is 4.5 ft/day. Dye was only detected via cumulative absorption on charcoal samples, as concentrations in water samples remained below the method detection limit. Field fluorimeters did not detect dye, showing false positives correlated with rainfall and likely sources of natural fluorescence. The observed groundwater velocity, while slower than typical conduit flow in karst systems, is faster than estimated matrix flow alone through limestone, suggesting components of conduit and fracture flow in addition to matrix flow within the Cow Creek Limestone. This study validates the existing conceptual model of a karstic Upper Cow Creek Limestone and highlights the hydrologic heterogeneity between the Upper and Lower Cow Creek units
Final Report: Source Water Study for the Hamilton Pool Area, Western Travis County, Texas
The Hamilton Pool Source Water Protection Study investigated the crucial groundwater resources that sustain the existing domestic water supply, and the unique ecological and recreational areas of Hamilton Pool Preserve and Reimers Ranch Park in western Travis County, Texas. These natural landmarks rely heavily on groundwater, which is increasingly threatened by a growing population, rising demand for water supplies (through pumping), and the impacts of a changing climate, including increased severe droughts. The study enabled the Southwestern Travis County Groundwater Conservation District to create an aquifer management zone and provide science-based recommendations that will inform and help guide policies and strategies aimed at preserving the region’s groundwater resources

Middle Trinity Aquifer Hydrogeologic Correlation from Western to Northern Travis County, Texas
In collaboration with Travis County, the Southwestern Travis County Groundwater Conservation District (“SWTCGCD”) installed a new monitoring well in northern Travis County, Texas, to address a gap in data and understanding of the Middle Trinity Aquifer, particularly the Cow Creek Limestone. The well, located west of Leander, utilized drill cuttings, core samples, and geophysical logs to characterize rock types and depositional environments to ultimately interpret the Cow Creek’s hydrostratigraphy
Outsourcing to outmanoeuvre: outsourcing re-defines competitive strategy and structure
Based on a case study approach, the authors examine the question: are there some aspects of a company's core business which can and should be outsourced? This question challenges traditional models of strategy which maintain that outsourcing of core activities is risky. Four circumstances are identified for outsourcing and examined in detail. The arguments and case studies suggest a number of lessons for managers and a general conclusion reached which supports the view that the outsourcing of core skills can be very beneficial for firms, providing the right approach is taken
