Review of English language teachers on the discursive faultlines: identities, ideologies and pedagogies

    No full text
This book presents a comparative analysis of language ideologies, identities and cultural pedagogies of English language teachers in Chile and California. Menard-Warwick carried out the analysis through classroom observations and narratives. This comparative examination allows the author to situate the role of English and English language teaching in the wider political, sociocultural and ideological dynamics of both Chile and California. The tensions which arise from these changing dynamics are referred to as ‘discursive faultlines’ throughout the book. In her exploration of these faultlines, the author gives a comprehensive overview of teacher identities, intercultural identity development and cultural pedagogies, all within the theoretical framework of Bakhtin's (Citation1981) dimensions of language. The pedagogies she presents for teaching intercultural understanding are informed by both the theory and research. The book is divided into seven chapters, each of which provides readers with a notably rich contrastive analysis of English language teachers and their teaching practices in Chile and California

Check-in and boarding services are one of the most human oriented pre-flight services in aviation industry. The process of using face recognition systems increase with the aviation 4.0 concept, decreases need for manpower and increases the efficiency of the processes. Therefore, problems, developments and challenges of face recognition in terms of aviation 4.0 are discussed in this chapter to determine the best face recognition system for check in and boarding systems. Analytic hierarchy process and grey relational analysis are used to analyze current system providers. To handle the ambiguity in the linguistic evaluations, fuzzy Z- numbers are used. 10 face recognition system providers are evaluated according to five criteria with the proposed methodology and the results are discussed. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.2-s2.0-8511489144

Duygu Asena, who is the one of authors who focus on social women issues is positioned with different way in 21st Century Turkish Literature. Duygu Asena, who started his literary career as journalist reached huge populace with her novels written in order to demonstrate inequality of women. It is aimed to increase awareness of readership as it's query the oppression of patriarchal via personel stories in these pieces written through feminist perspective. Duygu Asena who purposes intellectual conversion evaluated the fiction as raising awareness tool. She is accepted a cultural representative of feminism but an author from this aspect. Bringing into question the communal issues with possibilities of literary made her efficient and authentic voice in Turkish Literary. It was discussed in the context of effects communal gender inequality and patriarchal on women with Duygu Asena's six novels (Kadının Adı Yok, Aslında Aşk da Yok, Aynada Aşk Vardı, Aslında Özgürsün, Aşk Gidiyorum Demez, Paramparça), in this thesis study. Asena's novels aims to make visible structural inequalities which specify the social statue of women not only personal woman experiment. In each pieces, the oppressive mechanisms (in areas such as family, marriage, busines, relationships and individual identity construction, etc...) of the male-dominated society at different levels are questioned from a critical perspective. The internal conflicts experienced by female characters combine with external pressures to reveal the depth of gender-based injustices when Duygu Asena's narratives reveal how patriarchal ideology shapes women's lives. The female figures depicted in the author's novels are individuals who do not fit into traditional molds, often rebel against the existing order and try to build their own identities. Therefore, these works were evaluated not only as literary texts but also as cultural documents that question gender relations in Turkey. In this study, the women depicted in the novels (Kadının Adı Yok, Aslında Aşk da Yok, Aynada Aşk Vardı, Aslında Özgürsün, Aşk Gidiyorum Demez and Paramparça) by feminist author Duygu Asena will be examined in terms of the functions they fulfill within the narrative structure

The mediating role of attitudes in the effect of human and environment-centered value orientation on green cosmetic product purchasing behavior: comparison of different countries

    No full text
The growing concern for environmental issues has reached a critical level, demanding immediate attention. With the widespread integration of cosmetic products into daily routines, the escalating environmental impact cannot be ignored. Consumers are increasingly scrutinizing the environmental footprint of their purchases and the practices of manufacturing companies. To maintain their competitive edge, businesses must proactively understand and address the evolving needs and expectations of their consumers. This study aims to reveal the relationships between consumers’ environmental values, attitudes toward green products, and green cosmetics purchasing behaviors to guide decision-makers in the cosmetics industry. In addition, the study also evaluated the impact of consumers’ cultural backgrounds on their attitudes toward green products and their purchasing behaviors in the green cosmetics sector. We conducted a comprehensive online survey by collecting primary data from 883 respondents from 10 countries in Asia and Europe. Our analysis used partial least squares (PLS) with SMART PLS to comprehensively examine the interrelationships between variables. An ecocentric orientation positively influences attitudes and purchasing behavior toward green cosmetic products, while an anthropocentric orientation has a negative effect. Additionally, consumers’ attitudes mediate the impact of environmental attitudes on purchasing behavior and counteract the negative effect of anthropocentric attitudes. Cultural differences significantly impact consumers’ attitudes and purchasing behavior for green cosmetics. The study’s findings offer valuable insights for cosmetic companies dealing with growing demand for cosmetic products and environmental awareness. The empirical support for existing literature is significant, and the study’s structural model enriches the green cosmetics literature. It’s essential to consider both consumers and producers for sustainable green cosmetic production, ensuring profitability and encouragement for producers. © The Author(s) 2025.5917189920

A broker-based semantic agent for discovering Semantic Web services through process similarity matching and equivalence considering quality of service

    No full text
WOS: 000314426900002The lack of semantic descriptions for "web service properties" makes it difficult to find suitable web services. Current solutions are mostly based on broker/mediator agent systems. However, these techniques are syntactical, rather than semantics oriented. This article presents a semantic matching approach for discovering Semantic Web services through a broker-based semantic agent (BSA). The BSA includes knowledge-bases and several processing steps. The BSA's knowledge-bases are concept, task, and process ontologies built to describe both functional and non-functional parameters of services. The BSA executes semantic-based matching algorithms to discover similar services through the semantic matching step, process equivalence task, and matching of quality of service parameters. Relevant services are ranked by client preferences utilizing the semantic descriptions of available services. Other matchmaker studies are reviewed and compared with the BSA. Performance of the BSA algorithm is compared with SAM using published data and an experimental setup. The results indicate that our approach is better and more effective in some respects.Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Turkey [BAP-A-07-20]This work was supported in full by Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Scientific Research Project (Grant No. BAP-A-07-20), Turkey. See: CC BY-NC 4.0 A 75-year-old male patient was consulted because of a sudden onset of decreased consciousness immediately after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of lung cancer. Non-contrast axial computed tomography (CT) showed air densities along the vascular trace in the frontoparietal sulci of both cerebral hemispheres, more prominent on the right (Figure 1A, white arrows). Minimum intensity projection (MinIP) reformation from CT showed air images probably of arterial origin more clearly (Figure 1B, white arrowheads). Diffusion-weighted imaging showed restricted diffusion in cortical and subcortical areas and centrum semiovale in both cerebral hemispheres, more markedly on the right, consistent with watershed infarction (Figure 1C, D). The patient was diagnosed as acute watersheed infarction secondary to cerebral arterial air embolism. Treatment was started immediately but unfortunately the patient died. Figure 1.
