    In vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory effects of rosmanol and carnosol isolated from rosemary:

    Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) leaves are widely used as food ingredient, and have been focused on their strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer activities. Rosmanol is transformed from carnosol, one of strong antioxidant in rosemary extract, in the presence of oxygen and demonstrated that it has a potential for anti-inflammatiory activities. Our study consists of two parts: Anti-inflammatory activity of rosmanol on LPS induced iNOS and COX-2 in RAW 264.7 cells and inhibition activity of rosmanol and carnosol on TPA inflammation in mouse ear. In first study, rosmanol markedly inhibited LPS-stimulated iNOS and COX-2 protein and gene expression, as well as their regulated products, NO and PGE2. Treatment with rosmanol also reduced translocation of NF-κB through preventing degradation and phosphorylation of IκB. Western blot analysis showed that rosmanol significantly inhibited translocation and phosphorylation of NF-κB and STAT3, and the protein expression of C/EBPβ and C/EBPδ. Our results showed that rosmanol down-regulates iNOS and COX-2 gene expression by inhibiting the activation of NF-κB through interfering with the activation of PI3K/Akt and MAPK signal pathway. Based on the positive results of in vitro activity of rosmanol and the similarity of chemical structure with carnosol, we designed and performed in vivo study with rosmanol and carnosol. In inhibitory activity of rosmanol and carnosol on TPA-induced persistent inflammation in mouse ear, we examined inhibitory activity of rosmanol and carnosol on production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Il-1β and Il-6. The expression of inflammatory COX-2 and its upstream regulators such as NF-κB and IKK-β, and its product, PGE2 were also examined. A large amount of COX-2 expression and its up-stream regulators were detected in LPS induced mouse ear. In rosmanol and carnosol treated group, expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and PGE2 were decreased markedly. The expression of COX-2 was also reduced, which was resulted from inhibiting up-stream regulators such as NF-κB and IKK-β. In histology of rosmanol and carnosol treated groups their all inflammatory parameters are shown to be much milder condition. Also, there is significant reduced in degree of inflammation index. Taken together, rosmanol and carnosol, abundant ingredient in rosemary might be a potent anti-inflammatory reagent.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references (p. 96-102)by Jong Hun Le

    Hua Hun (1994) is a biopic about the artist Pan Yuling, directed by Huang Shuqin. The film uses art to explore female agency. This article proposes an analysis of the treatment that both authors gave to the nude and the multiplicity of meanings that they attributed to it. To achieve this, their previous works (in painting and cinema) have been examined for thematic and aesthetic coincidences. Pan Yuliang’s portraits and self-portraits were tools for the construction of the female identity, which under Huang Shuqin’s interpretation, spin a narrative that represents the transgression of the object/subject dynamic, transforming their creator into both and neither, which results in the restitution of her full artistic and personal autonomy.Hua Hun (1994) es un biopic de la artista Pan Yuliang, dirigido por Huang Shuqin. La película utiliza el arte para explorar la autonomía femenina. Este artículo plantea un análisis del tratamiento que estas autoras dieron a la desnudez y la multiplicidad de significados que le atribuyeron. Para ello se ha tratado con sus obras previas (pintura y cine) y buscado coincidencias temáticas y estéticas entre ellas.     Stabiliteit van steenzetting met blokken op hun kant: Grootschalig onderzoek Deltagoot

    Bij de renoval ie van de sleenzettingen in Zeeland komen veel betonblokken van 50 x 50 cm met diktes van 15 tot 30 cm beschikbaar. Het is zeer wenselijk om deze betonblokken te hergebruiken als op hun kant geplaatste blokken met een toplaagdikte van 50 cm. De toepasbaarheid van de blokken op hun kant is echter beperkt door de vrij conservatieve rekenregels die thans gehanteerd worden. Rijkswaterstaat Zeeland, Projectbureau Zeeweringen, heeft WL Delft Hydraulics opdracht gegeven de stabiliteit van blokken op hun kant in de Dellagoot op prototypeschaal te beproeven, teneinde tot scherpere ontwerpregels te komen. Het is de verwachting dat daardoor het toepassingsgebied van de blokken op hun kant aanzienlijk verruimd kan worden. Voor deze proeven zijn blokken van 50 x 50 x 25 cm3 gebruikt om in de Deltagoot van WL een steenzetting mel schaal 1:1 en met een helling van 1:3 op te bouwen.     Bij de analyse en de voorspelling van het getij wordt er van oudsher vanuit gegaan, dat de frequenties van de getijcomponenten bekend zijn. Zij volgen namelijk uit een analyse van de gravitatiepotentiaal. Van iedere component moeten de amplitude en de fase, de getijconstanten, berekend worden uit een waarnemingsreeks. Een veel gebruikte analysemethode is die der kleinste kwadraten. Munk en Cartwright hebben in hun methode de gedachte laten varen, dat voor een analyse de van belang zijnde frequenties van te voren gekozen moeten worden. Zij baseren zich daareentegen op een systeemaanpak door het verloop van de waterspiegel te beschouwen als de som van de responsies (output) van een aantal systemen, die ieder hun eigen ingangssignaal hebben. Op het uitgangssignaal is dan nog storing, ruis, aanwezig in de vorm van meteorologische invloeden. De responsies en de storing tezamen vormen nu het verticale getij. De ingangssignalen worden ontleend aan de gravitatieinvloeden van zon en maan en zijn derhalve als functie van de tijd bekend. Het behulp van de theorie van de spectraalanalyse is het nu mogelijk om uit de gemeten waterspiegel en de bekende ingangssignalen de eigenschappen van ieder systeem afzonderlijk te bepalen. Hierbij gaat het, als het lineaire systemen betreft, om de impulsresponsiefuncties of hun equivalent in het frequentiedomein de frequentieresponsiefuncties.     Digital I/Q Imbalance Compensation Technique in Multicarrier Low-IF Receiver

    I/Q 不平衡是所有I/Q調變系統中都會遭遇到的問題。在接收機前端的類比電路製程變異將會造成電路的不匹配,因此增益不平衡及相位不平衡是不可避免的,數位類比轉換器的電容不匹配也會造成此一問題。I/Q不平衡問題將會造成接收機的鏡像干擾排斥能力大幅降低,鏡像干擾將使得欲接收的信號嚴重失真。 在本篇論文中,提出了一個數位式I/Q不平衡補償技術。使用sign-sign LMS可適性濾波器理論來偵測出I/Q不平衡的參數,然後使用兩個乘法器以及一個直接數位頻率合成器(DDFS)來實現增益不平衡以及相位不平衡的補償。接收機前端的類比電路是使用安捷倫ADS模擬;而數位補償的架構則是使用Matlab Simulink模擬。模擬結果顯示此架構可幾乎完全補償I/Q不平衡,和其他補償方法的比較也顯示此架構提供較好的補償效果及較少的硬提複雜度。最後,我們使用雙通道的類比對數位轉換器(AD9238)及可編程邏輯元件(ALTERA APEX20K1500E)進行驗證,實驗結果顯示:此補償架構可提供高達63dB的鏡像干擾排斥比,合乎了WCDMA以及MCCDMA系統的要求。I/Q imbalance appears in all I/Q communication systems. Process variation in the analog front-end of the receiver will cause mismatches in the components. Gain and phase mismatches between I and Q mixers are unavoidable. The capacitor mismatches in analog-to digital converters also cause this problem. I/Q imbalance problem causes finite rejection in the image frequency band, and the image interference will alias into the desired signal, severe distortion will occur. In this work, a novel and feasible I/Q imbalance compensation technique is proposed. A sign-sign LMS algorithm is used to detect the imbalance of the analog front-end. After that, two multipliers and a DDFS (Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer) are employed to perform high precision amplitude and phase imbalance compensation. In this work, the analog front end is simulated by Advanced Design System and the digital compensation architecture is simulated by Matlab Simulink. Simulation results show that this architecture can eliminate I/Q imbalance almost completely without disturb the desired signal. Comparisons between this algorithm and other techniques are also performed, which show that this work can provide better performance with less hardware complexity. Finally, this compensation system is implemented in an ALTERA FPGA(APEX20K1500E) and Analog Device 12-bits dual channel ADC (AD9238). Experiment results show that IRR as high as 63 dB is achieved, which provides sufficient image rejection in both 3GPPWCDMA and MCCDMA system.
