Multi-task faster R-CNN for nighttime pedestrian detection and distance estimation
Art. 103694Distance estimation and pedestrian detection are critical for safe driving operation decision-making and autonomous vehicle intelligent control strategies. This paper proposes a novel multi-task Faster R-CNN detector which simultaneously realizes distance estimation and pedestrian detection using an improved ResNet-50 architecture. Images were acquired using a near-infrared camera with two near-infrared fill-lights devices during real road nighttime scenarios. Ground truth pedestrian distances used for training were obtained using LIDAR. The data used to optimize the multi-task Faster R-CNN detector were approximately 20 k high-quality near-infrared images with marked pedestrians and tagged distance values. The proposed algorithm including the distance estimation runs at a speed exceeding 7 fps. Pedestrian detection accuracy reached nearly 80% with a total average absolute distance estimation error rate of less than 5%.11
Hu-Fu: A Data Federation System for Secure Spatial Queries
The increasing concerns on data security limit the sharing of data distributedly stored at multiple data owners and impede the scale of spatial queries over big urban data. In response, data federation systems have emerged to perform secure queries across multiple data owners leveraging secure multi-party computation. However, existing systems are designed for relational data. They are highly inefficient on spatial queries and limited in usability. In this demonstration, we introduce Hu-Fu, the first data federation system for secure spatial queries with high efficiency and usability. Hu-Fu is designed from the perspectives of the query user and the data owner for high usability and decomposes a spatial query into as many plaintext operators and as few secure operators as possible for high efficiency. We demonstrate the deployment and usage of Hu-Fu via cross-company taxi-calling, a popular smart city application.</p

The Dyadic Coping Scale, Anxiety Scale, and Depression Scale were utilized to measure dyadic coping, anxiety, and depression, respectively. The Actor-Partner Interdependence Model was used to analyze the actor effect and partner effect. Results: Wives exhibited significantly higher anxiety and depression scores compared to husbands (p< 0.001). No statistically significant difference was found in dyadic coping between wives and husbands. Positive dyadic coping in infertile couples had significant actor effects on anxiety and depression (p< 0.05) and partner effects (p< 0.05). Positive dyadic coping negatively predicted anxiety and depression of oneself and one’s partner. Negative dyadic coping in infertile couples also had significant actor effects on anxiety and depression (p< 0.05) and partner effects (p< 0.05). Negative dyadic coping positively predicted anxiety and depression of oneself and one’s partner. Conclusion: The dyadic coping style of infertile couples has both actor and partner effects on their own and their partner’s anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression in infertile couples are influenced by their own and their partner’s dyadic coping style, respectively. Therefore, dyadic coping serves as an important indicator for predicting psychological outcomes in these couples. Keywords: infertility couple, dyadic coping, anxiety, depressio

This WG element is highly accurate with convergence two orders higher than the optimal order in an energy norm and the L 2 norm. The superconvergence is verified analytically and numerically. Furthermore, the usual stabilizer in the standard weak Galerkin formulation is no longer needed for this element. The research of Junping Wang was supported by the NSF IR/D program, while working at National Science Foundation. Science Communication in Context of China: Reducing the Regional Imbalance
Science communication is influenced by various factors of social context, such as politics, economy, culture and history, and these factors have different impact on science communication in different time and space domain. China is a country with appreciable regional diversity, where exist huge gap in economic, social, educational and science and technology development. The imbalance in development makes social context of science communication a prominent feature in the country. In China, the demand of citizens on science communication presents diversified and complex features, which were intensified by the leapfrog development of science communication pattern. Based upon above considerations, China is taking public science communication strategy in a localized way by government and the society as well. This paper discusses the functions which science communication played in reducing the regional imbalance in China

Dynamic analysis of auger driller during luffing motion by bond graph
To investigate the inherent complex dynamic characteristics of luffing mechanism of auger driller, the rigid body motion of structures and the dynamic behavior of the drive system should be studied in an integrated model. The working principle and structural characteristics of the luffing mechanism is firstly analyzed, then the bond graph model of revolute joint, cylinder and boom are proposed based multi-body theory, and the bond graph model of hydraulic system is also constructed. Through the analysis of the dynamic characteristics and interaction rules of each sub model, the transmission path of power flow is described. Coupling the boom structure and hydraulic actuator, the complete bond graph model of luffing mechafnism have been developed in a unified way. The total governing equations of the system have been derived from the model. Numerical results of chamber pressure of luffing cylinder implies to the good accuracy of the bond graph study, while comparing with experimental results. Meanwhile, the effects of the installation position parameters of the joints on system response have been studied through simulation, which provides a theoretical basis for improving the dynamic performance of the luffing mechanism
