Instead of depending on heuristic intermediate representations such as phonemes or visemes, the system learns its own representation, which includes dynamical and contextual information. In principle, this allows the system to make optimal use of context to handle ambiguity and relatively long-lasting facial co-articulation effects. The output is a series of facial control parameters, suitable for driving many different kinds of animation ranging from photo-realistic image warps to 3D cartoon characters. 1.     We present a Gaussain model based approach for robust and automatic extraction of roads from very low-resolution satellite imagery. First, the input image is filtered to suppress the regions that the likelihood of existing a road pixel is low. Then, the road magnitude and orientation are computed by evaluating the responses from a quadruple orthogonal line filter set. A mapping from the line domain to the vector domain is used to determine the line strength and orientation for each point.     Making machines that can understand musical structure has long been one of the holy grails of audio processing separating overlapping sounds has been another. Here we present a simple framework initialy used for the first task, which has come to make itself very useful for source separation. We show that the same type of reasoning that allows one to find teh building elements of a musical audio stream can also be used to find and extract elements contained in auditory scenes. We relate this work with recent developments in sparse representations and dimensionality reduction and show its application in a variety of situations
